2 Downloading VSE 8.5i 1. In your browser, go to oads/index.html. a. If you cannot get to the link above, follow these instructions: i. Go to ii. From the Enterprise and Industries section in the center section of the page, click on Downloads selection iii. Continue with step 3 below. 2. Under My Products - Download Software click on login. 3. Enter the Merrill Lynch Grant Number: a NAI without the quotes. 4. Click the Submit button to continue. 5. Under Mcafee Active VirusScan Click on View Available Downloads

3 6. Click on VirusScan Enterprise v8.5i in the list. 7. Select I Agree after reading the download agreement. 8. In the VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i table, click on VSE85iLEN.zip. Note: You should check the column labeled Platform to be sure the software is compatible with your operating system. The software release date should be AFTER the date your operating system was released. If not, you may need a newer version of the VirusScan software.

4 9. If you receive the Security Alert window, click the Yes button to continue. 10. In the File Download window, click on Save and choose a location for the file. 11. Close your browser window, locate the file and double-click on it. 12. Find and double-click on Setup.exe to begin the installation. 13. Follow the VirusScan Enterprise 8.5 Installation Guide to install.

6 Installing VirusScan Enterprise 8.5 Notes: If you have ANY other antivirus software running on your computer, including McAfee Antivirus for home use, you MUST uninstall it before installing VirusScan Enterprise 8.5 You should check to make sure that the version of the software you have downloaded is compatible with your operating system. This is listed next to the name of the file you clicked on above. 14. Run Setup.exe from the CD, or from the copy you downloaded 15. WinZip will extract the files to a temporary folder and run the setup program 16. In the Welcome Screen, you are given the opportunity to review the documentation. Select the Next button to continue 17. In the License Agreement screen, select: 18. License expiry type a. Perpetual 19. Select Country where purchased a. United States 20. Click the radio button next to I accept the terms of the License Agreement. 21. Click the OK button to continue.

7 22. If you had a previous version of VirusScan on your system, you will be prompted to Preserve the settings. To disable this, uncheck the Preserve Settings box. If you would like to keep your previous settings, leave the Preserve Settings box checked. 23. Click on the Next button to continue. 24. In the Select Setup Type Screen, select Custom. 25. If you need to change the Install to location, click the Browse button and follow the instructions to select a different location. 26. Click the Next button to continue.

8 27. In the Feature Selection screen, click the Next button to continue. 28. In the Install McAfee Products screen, leave both Install Alert Manager Server and Install Desktop Firewall blank. 29. Click the Next button to continue.

9 30. In the Product Configuration screen, select Enable On-Access Scanner at the end of installation. 31. Click the Next button to continue. 32. In the Security Configuration Screen, select Show the system icon with all menu options. 33. Click the Next button to continue.

10 34. In the ready to install screen, click the Install button to continue. 35. In the Completion Screen, select: a. Update Now b. Run On-Demand Scan 36. Click the Finish button to continue.

11 37. The update will run. Click on the Close button when the update finishes. The window will close itself it you fail to close it. 38. A full system scan will run. When complete it will close automatically. 39. You may receive the reboot message. 40. Click OK. 41. Restart your computer. Configuring the Auto Update Schedule You can configure and schedule an AutoUpdate task to meet your requirements. 1. Open the VirusScan Console by click on Start All Programs McAfee VirusScan Console 2. Double-click on AutoUpdate to open the AutoUpdate Properties dialog box.

12 a. NOTE: Configure the update task before you Schedule it or perform an Update Now. 3. In the Log file text box, accept the default log file name and location, enter a different log file name and location, or click Browse to locate a suitable location. a. NOTE: By default, log information is written to the UPDATELOG.TXT file in the following directory: <drive>:winnt\profiles\all Users\Application Data\Network Associates\Virusscan 4. In the Run options area, you can specify an executable file to start after the AutoUpdate task finishes running. For example, you might use this option to start a network message utility that notifies the administrator that the update operation completed successfully. 5. Enter the executable to be run after Update is completed. Enter the path of the executable you want to run, or click Browse to locate it. 6. Only Run after Successful Update. Run the executable program only after a successful update. If the update is not successful, the program you selected does not run. 7. NOTE: The program file that you specify must be executable by the currently logged on user. If the currently logged on user does not have access to the folder containing the program files, or if there is no currently logged on user, the program does not run. Running the AutoUpdate 1. Click Schedule to schedule the update task. 2. Click Apply to save your changes. 3. If you want to run the update task immediately, click Update Now. 4. Click OK to close the AutoUpdate Properties dialog box. 5. NOTE: The update task uses the configuration settings in the AutoUpdate repository list to perform the update. The VirusScan Enterprise software comes with two repository lists which are configured to download from the following sites: ftp://ftp.nai.com/commonupdater You can use either of these sites to download the latest updates if you are using VirusScan Enterprise 8.5.

13 The FTP repository is the default site. The HTTP repository is the fallback site. If you use the AutoUpdate repository list the way it comes configured, updates tasks will try to download from the FTP site first. If the update from the FTP site fails, it will try to download from the HTTP site. You can move the sites in the list, change the configuration, or remove one or both of the FTP and HTTP sites.
