1 Hi All, This document is a record of how I configured TrainController for easy control of my Goliath Crane with information required to successfully run it using macros embedded as function buttons in a Train Window. Systems Tested: - Uhlenbrock Intellibox 1 and ESU ECoS Function Button Icons The nine icons in the Train Window represent all the function Buttons required to control the Goliath Crane. The Train Window to the left shows all the functions turned off. Read ärklin instructions before using this crane. The Icons with the black background represent the function buttons F2 (Boom Select), F4 (Rotate Select) F3 (Hook Select) in the off position. The Icons with the blue background represent the function buttons with embedded macros. All icon graphics were created in the Library... section of the Functions Tab and given meaningful names as shown. 1

2 Engine Profile for the Goliath Crane Profile Method I profiled the Goliath Crane to get a threshold speed using the following procedure. I wired two pushbuttons to spare s88 contacts that I had, switching to Ground. With the boom raised I rotated the crane to set the threshold speed. Then with a pushbutton in each hand I started the profiling using momentary contacts as the crane is rotated180 deg. I pushed the pushbutton that was at the boom end, the crane run-out ran a little further then the crane reversed after 4 seconds, as it became parallel to the wagon I pushed the same pushbutton again then waited for it to rotate 180 deg and pushed the other button that was at the boom end and repeated the process for all speed steps. Using my Goliath Crane profile should be fine for testing. 2

3 Creating Macro s Give all macro s meaningful names as shown. In all cases I first turn off the functions not required then turn on the required function before operating the crane. 3

4 Creating Macro s continued Notice I send a message with the name of the macro that is operating to help with debugging later. This is done for all macro s created. I also start all macro names with Goliath so that all macro s related to the Goliath crane will be grouped together. 4

5 Creating Macro s continued The delay between the speed commands may need adjustment to suit your crane movement in all macros. Now that all required macros have been created it is time to return to the Functions Tab of the crane to complete the list entries. 5

Creating List Entries For each embedded macro click the new button (6x) then change the function by selecting the icon you require and change the Type to List.

8 Bonus Time The supplied file goliath_crane.zip contains the following files goliath_crane.yrl yra Warning: - All files have been created using Gold TC7.0F6 Your Goliath Crane must be Märklin catalogue # Testing your Goliath Crane is done at your own risk. Installing Crane Control Files To have a look at the Goliath Crane Engine, unzip goliath_crane.zip and do the following. 1. Make a directory called Function_items under the TrainAnimator directory and place yra under the Function_items directory. 2. Place goliath_crane.yrl under TrainController\Locomotive Data directory. 3. Go to Train Import file goliath_crane.yrl and all goliath crane engine icons will be available. Crane Control Testing 1. Start TrainController and select your digital system. 2. Go into Edit Mode, Under the General Tab add the correct graphic from Function_items directory then under Connection Tab change the Goliath Crane address to suit the decoder address that your Goliath Crane has and you are now nearly ready to start testing. 3. Control you Goliath Crane manually from your Train Window within TrainController and confirm all macros are correct. As always enjoy your model trains. 8
