30 Page 30 To Order Call: or Tom Overman has been involved in photography for forty years. In North Carolina in the 1960s, Tom watched and worked with his father, Jerry Overman, learning darkroom processing and the basics of commercial and sports photography. Although Tom didn't think so when he was a teenager, Jerry has the eye of a master and the patience of a monk, and has passed this art on to two more generations of Overman photographers. This includes Tom s son Jeremiah, and his nephew Michael. Tom took up his father s art in earnest while living with his family in San Jose, California. This evolved through a series of trips, with cameras in hand, to San Francisco, Monterey, Carmel and the Big Sur area of the Central California Coast. A Commander in the Navy Reserve, Tom s military service has played an integral role in many of the images in this catalog. In the fall of 2001 he, like many other reservists, began an extended period of active duty. His service first took him to Salt Lake City, Utah, as part of the military task force supporting the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. After that he spent the next six months in the Washington, D.C. area. During a few free weekends Tom took time to capture images of some of the country s most storied regions, including stops in Bryce Canyon, Zion, Canyonlands, and Arches National Parks in Utah; in Gettysburg, PA; and in New York City. In September 2002 Tom was transferred from Maryland to California for a second year of Active Duty service. He drove across the country with his father and with his son Benjamin and captured images of Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone and the Grand Teton National Parks. Tom is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). He has a Bachelors degree in Applied Math and Physics from Warren Wilson College in Asheville, NC. He also has a Masters in Engineering Management from Santa Clara University, Santa Clara, CA.
