7 3 SAFETY WARNING AND GUIDELINES 4 INSTALLATION PROCEDURES NOTES: 1) Read all service instructions. 2) Observe and follow all warnings/instructions marked on the projector. 3) Service the unit in a clean environment to prevent dust particles from settling on optical components. IMPORTANT! Ensure the components and hardware used for Projectors 6 and 7 have the correct label. Each of the projectors have their own color coded labeling to ensure the correct parts are used. The labels for Projector 6 are light green and blue for Projector RECOMMENDED TOOLS Ensure the following tools are on-hand when performing the procedures outlined in this document: M5/M8 Allen Key 3/16 Balldriver 3mm Balldriver 1/2 Wrench #1 Phillips Screwdriver 17mm Wrench Meter Stick, Yard Stick or Measuring Tape 1-1/8 Open-end Wrench WARNING When powering down the projector, allow the cooling fans to automatically turn OFF (approximately five minutes) before disconnecting AC and removing covers. Always unplug the projector before disassembling. NOTICE Observe all electrostatic precautions. Use a grounded wrist strap when handling electronic assemblies. NOTICE Use only replacement parts specified by the manufacturer. DO NOT use substitute parts. NOTICE A minimum torque of 15-inch/lb. must be applied to each screw. 11 4.7 INSERT LENS (1.2:1 / # ) To install the lens: 1. Remove the protective lens cap from each end of the lens. 2. Slide the lens into the lens opening and align the connector on the side of the lens with the connector assembly on the lens retaining ring. 3. As the lens connects, re-align it slightly until the tabs on the lens fit into the slots in the retaining ring. 4. With the lens fully inserted (and connected) turn it clockwise until the LENS RELEASE button "pops" indicating it is fully inserted. 5. Replace the front lens cap with the ruggedized lens cap (M012898). NOTE: The connector assembly moves as the lens is turned. 12 4.8 Center Lens and Set Lens Shift NOTE: Keep everything square and level throughout the centering procedure. 1. Place the projector on a level surface. Use a level to ensure accuracy. 2. Measure from the floor to the center of the lens (Figure 4-8). 3. Move the projector close to a flat wall on which to project an image. 4. Turn the projector ON. Display the grid test pattern by pressing TEST on the projector keypad. 5. To set the image center to be the same height above the floor as the lens center, press the LENS SHIFT button and then the UP or DOWN arrows accordingly. 6. To roughly center the lens horizontally, press the LENS SHIFT button and the LEFT and RIGHT arrows accordingly. Figure 4-8 Measure to Lens Center NOTE: For horizontal centering, measure from a wall to the center of the lens and the image. 7. Place the lens cap (M012898) with a pinhole in the center onto the lens to use as a centering jig. The pinhole limits the light to the optical lens axis. You must be in a dark environment to see the small circle of light. 8. Make fine adjustments using the LENS SHIFT button and the arrow buttons until the image is in the center of the small projected circle of the image (Figure 4-9). Figure 4-9 Center Image 9. Remove the lens cap and label the projector as centered. Use this as your reference position and set the required lens shifts. 10.Mark the wall with tape for the desired image shift and use the LENS SHIFT button and arrow buttons to set the lens to this mark. 12 of 25 Projectors 6 and 7 Ruggedized Lens Components Installation Manual
