3 Introduction You can use your i930 Smartphone as an external modem for data transfer to and from your computer by using the i930 Sync Cradle and mini USB cable or by using an infrared connection. For instructions on how to connect your i930 to your computer, or to use your i930 as a GPRS modem, refer to the i930 User s Guide on the companion CD that came with your phone. You can use your i930 Smartphone to transfer data only when it is not in a call. If your Smartphone is in a Walkie-Talkie call when you set up a data transfer, the Walkie-Talkie call is ended. You will not receive any type of call or message notifications while transferring data. Downloading the Modem Drivers When installed on your computer, each of these two modem drivers allows you to use your i930 Smartphone as a modem with a USB connection: SilentInstallUSBDrivers.exe the USB driver for your Smartphone s iden network modem gsmdmiden.inf the USB driver for your Smartphone s GSM network modem To download these drivers, go to Download the modem driver you want to use and save it to your desktop. Choosing the Phone Network To install and use the driver for your Smartphone s iden network modem, your Smartphone must be on the iden network. To install and use the driver for your Smartphone s GSM network modem, your Smartphone must be on a GSM network. Before attempting to install a modem driver, make sure your Smartphone is set to the correct type of network. For more information on your Smartphone s network settings, refer to the i930 User s Guide on the companion CD that came with your phone. 2 Last updated: 10/13/05

4 Installing the iden Network Modem Driver 1 Make sure your i930 Smartphone is not yet connected to your computer. 2 Open SilentInstallUSBDrivers.exe on your desktop. 3 On your i930 Smartphone s Home screen, select Start. 4 Select Accessories and then Modem Link. 5 In Connection, select USB. 6 Select Menu and then Activate. Do not select Done. 7 Connect your i930 Smartphone to your computer. Note: Depending on your operating system, you may receive a warning message before the installation that you should not install the driver. You must install the driver anyway. 5 Installing the GSM Network Modem Driver 1 Make sure your i930 Smartphone is not yet connected to your computer. 2 On your i930 Smartphone s Home screen, select Start. 3 Select Accessories and then Modem Link. 4 In Connection, select USB. 5 Select Menu and then Activate. 6 Connect your i930 Smartphone to your computer. 7 In the window that appears on your computer screen, select Install from a list or specific location and click Next. 8 Check Include this location in the search and click Browse. 9 Select your desktop as the location and click OK. 10 Click Next. 11 The driver is then installed automatically. 6 View the Modem Drivers on Your Computer 1 On your computer, click the Start button. 2 Go to Settings > Control Panel and choose Phone and Modem Options. 3 In the Phone and Modem Options window, select the Modems tab. These entries in the Modems tab show that each modem driver is installed: Motorola iden USB GSM Modem for the GSM network modem driver Motorola iden USB Modem for the iden network modem driver Leave this window open when you connect your Smartphone as a modem. Connect Your i930 as a Modem 1 Make sure your i930 Smartphone is not yet connected to your computer. 2 On your i930 Smartphone s Home screen, select Start. 3 Select Accessories and then Modem Link. 4 In Connection, select USB. 5 Select Menu and then Activate. 6 Connect your i930 Smartphone to your computer. In the Phone and Modem Options window of your computer, the Modems tab will show that the i930 Smartphone modem you are using is attached to a COM port on your computer.
