1 How do I get to the Jail? The Summit County Jail is located between South Street and Crosier Street off the Grant Street/Wolf Ledges exit of Rt. 76 in Akron, Ohio. The address is 205 East Crosier Street, Akron, Ohio View Larger Map Can an inmate call me from the jail? Yes. Inmates generally have access to a phone from 5:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. each day. We have a special jail phone system, and all calls are collect unless inmate sets up a debit telephone account. Unless inmate uses the debit account, the call will be billed to the person receiving the call. To receive inmate collect calls on a cellular phone, you must first setup a pre-paid account through our phone service vendor ICS Solutions at or on the web at You can also set up a debit phone account for an inmate. Once the payment is received from his commissary account or from outside deposits, the inmate may call any allowed telephone number using these funds. What if I am receiving unwanted calls from an inmate? Inmate calls from the jail are collect calls and you can simply refuse to accept the calls. To refuse to accept a call, just hang up. If you continue to receive unwanted calls you can have your phone number blocked in the jail phone system. To block this and all future jail calls, when asked to accept the call, just press 9. Visitors can schedule visitation with an inmate on the internet at or in the kiosk located in the front lobby of the Summit County Jail. Visitation must be scheduled 2 business days in advance. What items can I bring to an inmate? Inmate Services accepts Bibles or other religious equivalent from the publisher and are factory wrapped. When can I drop off money for an inmate? 4 Any amount is acceptable, but you must present a valid I.D. Do you accept personal checks? No. We only accept cash. There is an Access Secure Deposit kiosk located in the lobby of the jail which does accept cash or credit cards. The lobby kiosk is available for cash or credit card transactions 7 days a week from 7am-11pm. Do you accept court clothes for an inmate? Yes. We will accept court clothes for an inmate if they have been indicted by the Grand Jury and will be having a trial. What programs are available to inmates? Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Bible studies, chapel services, chemical dependency treatment and life skills classes. How many times can an inmate release money to another person? Twice a month. Can an inmate release his/her property to me? Yes. Inmates can release property to anyone they wish. However, we will not deliver a message to an inmate requesting they prepare a property release. Note: Drivers License, Social Security card, Direct Express card, Direction card and other Identification will not be released. If I need to find out a court date for an inmate, what should I do? Contact the clerk s office of the court jurisdiction that is hearing the case. At what amount is an inmate s bond set? Contact the clerk s office for the court jurisdiction that is hearing the case. 5 All bonds must be paid at the clerk s office of the appropriate court. The Summit County Jail does not accept money for any bonds. Are there certain hours when inmates are released? No. We release inmates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. How long does it take for an inmate to be released? If an inmate appears in court in the morning, we will receive the release paperwork in mid-afternoon. Once we have received a release at the jail, the inmate should be released within two to three hours. When will my relative go to prison? Details of prisoner transports are not given out to the public. Generally, a sentenced prisoner will be transported to prison within ten days of sentencing.
