1 Transmitter Modules for W-CDMA Mobile Phones Achieving the Excellent Power Efficiency in the world T0311QZ1950 (Band I) T0311QZ0836 (Band V) T0312QZ1880 (Band II) FUJITSU has developed T0311QZ1950 (Band I), T0311QZ0836 (Band V), and T0312QZ1880 (Band II). They are small and high-performance, excellent power efficiency transmitter modules for W-CDMA mobile phones. Introduction For power-saving, space-saving, and labor reduction for designing RF section at the hand set manufacturers, FUJITSU has led the world in commercializing the transmitter modules with built-in power amplifiers on the transmission side of CDMA phones. New small and high-performance transmitter modules for W-CDMA mobile phones have been adopted by numerous customers. communication and will continue to develop multi-mode and multi-band phones. 2 current mobile phones. The area assigned to the RF block, the core of communication,is becoming smaller and smaller as mobile phones are miniaturized and their weights are reduced. The number of build-in parts is decreasing due to the technology advance to the miniaturization and integration in RF block. The tendencies of the module development of the RF block in mobile phones may be summarized as follows: Changes in the RF block utilizing GSM system Antenna switch module (ASM) Module unification of ASMtransmitter system or ASM receiver system best matching with PA on the transmitter module, these products will contribute the reduction of development time and labor for our customers. FUJITSU transmitter modules have also reduced the mount area to 30 compared to the configuration with discrete parts. They are small and highperformance modules that will contribute to the reduction in the number of built-in parts. In addition, we have realized a PA power efficiency of 27, which is at the world s top level. Module design and development will be needed in the future market. Module development for W-CDMA mobile phones is limited in recent development. It is constructed with discrete parts in general because the band path filter and PA peripheral parts require adjustment of the matching circuit. Last year, FUJITSU developedt021x Series transmitter modules with a unified transmission side circuit utilizing the CDMA system and they have been adopted by many customers. We have now released transmitter modules utilizing W-CDMA system. Fig.1 presents the block diagram of the transmitter modules. FUJITSU was the first to develop the SAW duplexers for mobile phones and also has been leading the industry with SAW filters, and VCO modules in terms of performance and miniaturization. Adopting our own SAW duplexer and SAW filter and combining them with our original highfrequency design technology to realize the Figure 2 External Dimensions and Pin Assignments 2
3 optimal design technologies, the world s best efficiency of 27 has been achieved. The three modes of high power, middle power, and low power are supported as the control functions of output power and supply current. Unifying PA, SAW filter, and SAW duplexer, which are the transmission circuit parts of mobile phones, a small size of 7.0mm4.0mm (height 1.2mmmax.) has been realized. The packaging size may reduce the mount area to 30 compared to modules composed of conventional discrete parts. Also supports 3GPP Rel.5-based HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) and down link at a maximum communication speed of 14.4Mbps. FUJITSU integrated transmitter modules contribute to the reduction of development time and labor. Applications These products support for mobile phones using Band I, Band V, or Band II of the W-CDMA system. Specifications Fig.2 shows the external dimensions and pin assignments for these products and Table 1 shows the main features. In addition, Fig.3 shows the ACLR characteristic of T0311QZ1950 (Band I) and Figs. 4 to 12 shows the frequency characteristics of T0311QZ1950 (Band I). Future Development Operating Conditions FUJITSU will continue to substantiate the product lineup in the future by developing products for Band IV and VIII.
