3 President s Message Dear Members I am delighted to share with you the work done by your Chapter in the last two months (March April, 2010), along with some news of your interest. Milestone for your Chapter: I am pleased to announce a great achievement that ISACA Karachi Chapter has won a bronze-level award of best chapter website for the year Every year, the Chapter Support Committee of ISACA International reviews all of the chapter web sites that link from the ISACA International web site This year, ISACA International has awarded ISACA Karachi Chapter a bronze-level award of best chapter website for year This award is recognition of our work & efforts to put forth in the design, layout content and management of our chapter web site. Chapter AGM ISACA e-learning Campus The CISA Online Review Course is available on the ISACA e-learning Campus. This interactive, web based course was developed to provide Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA ) exam candidates and ISACA members with an efficient and cost-effective tool for exam preparation and performing information systems audits and reviews. Approval of the minutes of the last AGM held on 29 May Update by Chapter President on activities carried out during the period from 01 Jun 2009 till 31 March Approval of audited accounts for the period from 01 April 2009 to 31 December The meeting went very well and all the above agenda items were discussed in detail and subsequently approved. Seminar A large number of Board and Chapter members stayed back to attend the Presentation on "Ethical Hacking". A large audience of chapter members benefited from it and appreciated our efforts in promoting awareness in Information Security/Governance and related hot issues from the chapter s own platform. 4 President s Message The majority of chapter members suggested that we should continue promotion of such seminars and workshops at our chapter platform as this will ease chapter members to not only get awareness about the emerging issues but also to earn CPEs as well. I assure you that your chapter is continuing to work hard in promotion of such events in its limited budget. Free Seat & Discounts To encourage members regarding continuing professional education & certifications, we promote events & programs in Information Security & Governance domains. In this connection we offered 10% discount for our chapter members in a 3 days workshop Implementing Information Security and Achieving ISO 27001:2005 Certification conducted by Quest Consultants. 21 CPE hours were also endorsed. The first exam to reflect the results of this analysis will be the June 2011 exam. 13 ISACA Opens Grandfathering Program for New CRISC Certification Rolling Meadows, IL, USA (1 April 2010) Professionals with eight or more years of IT and business experience can now apply for ISACA s new Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) designation without taking an exam under a grandfathering program. The program, which opened today, is designed to recognize professionals who are highly experienced in the following domains: Risk identification, assessment and evaluation Risk response Risk monitoring IS control design and implementation IS control monitoring and maintenance To earn the CRISC (pronounced see risk ) credential through the grandfathering program, candidates must prove that at least six of the eight years of experience included specific experience performing the responsibilities across all of the five domains. They must also prove at least three years of experience in risk identification, assessment, evaluation, response and monitoring. Candidates must complete an application at and submit an application fee. The grandfathering program will run from April 2010 through March The first CRISC exam will be administered in Enterprises around the world are rapidly realizing the importance of monitoring, controlling and benefiting from risk-related activities. The CRISC designation helps provide assurance to employers that professionals who earn it are experienced in identifying and evaluating the risks unique to their specific organization, said Urs Fischer, chair of ISACA s CRISC Task Force. The one of its kind application hits 10,000 downloads in initial 3 weeks of the launch. Cricket Companion is designed by a Pakistani developer who is associated with Tricastmedia subsidiary of Tech Access Media Solutions (TAMS); company is specialized in development of Mobile, Web and Wap based applications. Cricket Companion is a GPRS based application which can be installed on the handset; this would enable user to view complete live coverage of all International ODI, Test and T20 Matches. This application display the detailed live statistics of any player in the bowling teams. The application also includes Bowling and Batting graphs and charts as well as update alerts. HEJ Karachi declared Best institution of Islamic world Hussain Ebrahim Jamal (HEJ) Research Institute of Chemistry, University of Karachi (KU), has been declared as the best science institution in the Islamic world. It has won the prestigious Islamic Development Bank (IDB) prize for science and technology that include a cash reward worth 100,000 US dollars, besides a trophy and a certificate. The prize will be presented to the director of the institute in a special ceremony that will be held on the occasion of the 35th IDB board of governors meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan on June 23 and 24, this year. The nomination is an acknowledgment for the recently launched innovative mobile banking solution by MCB Bank & GSM Association (GSMA). Other mobile payment services nominated were from South Korea (t-cash), Philippines (Smart Money) and Kenya (m-paisa).
