2 OVERVIEW At your initial interview with your Team Leader, you should have discussed, in detail, topics such as the Movement as a whole, the Regions, Districts, Groups, Sections, other activities available through Scouting and the possible role you may undertake. Through your attendance at formal training courses and e-learning you will gain an understanding of the Mission and Principles of the Association and the commitment the Movement requires of you. You should have started thinking about and possibly discussed with others, your attitude to the Promise and Law and the religious policy of the Association. If you are an Adult Leader or Adult Member refer to the Learning and Assessment Plan, which provides the detailed pathway of the Training required for the role being undertaken. ACREDDITED TRAINING (via SCOUTS AUSTRALIA INSTITUTE OF TRAINING) For Leaders who wish to gain a Certificate III in Business or a Certificate IV in Leadership and Management application can be made to SAIT via a Recognition of Prior (RPL) process. Please contact the Training Department at the Branch Support Office for more information. OTHER SKILLS COURSES Courses available to supplement the formal training program include Campfire Leaders, Working with Youth with Disabilities, Spiritual Development, and Remote First Aid, Camp craft and Cooking, Pioneering Level & 2. YOUTH COURSES Venturer Scout Unit Management and Venturer Scout Leadership Course dates can be found in this calendar ADVENTUROUS ACTIVITY COURSES If Adventurous Activities is not your primary role Adult Leaders are unable to attend Adventurous Activities training courses (e.g. Canoe, Abseiling, Bushwalking Level 2 etc.) until Certificate of Adult Leadership has been issued. Venture Scouts and Rovers who wish to increase their skills in the adventurous activities area or other skills areas can attend these courses. APPLICATIONS Applications to attend a training course are required to be done by completing an A15 Training Application Form. Before applying to attend any course please ensure you have completed any prerequisites. The A15 form is available on line at so please ensure you use the latest version. This ensures the correct information is provided and the correct course fees are paid. Training applications need to be accompanied with the correct payment. NB: ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY THE RELEVANT COURSE FEE TO ALLOW REGISTRATION ON THE COURSE AND ALL COURSES CLOSE 3 COURSE CANCELLATION FEES AND ASSOCIATED PROCESSES If notice is received by 7 days prior to the course - no fee is payable and fees will be refunded either directly to the Group / District / Region account or the individual if paid by credit card. If notice is received less than 7 days prior to the course - catering and administration fees are payable with the balance being refunded either directly to the Group / District / Region account or the individual if paid by credit card. No notice (i.e. trainee does not attend course) - full fee is payable If courses are cancelled by Deputy Chief Commissioner AIS or Branch Commissioner Training & Development - no fee is payable. GRANT FUNDED TRAINING FEES Training fees funded by Grant funds can only be used if the applicant attends the course. In the case of late notification of withdrawal or nonattendance then the Group account will be charged with the relevant amounts as per cancellation policy and the funds paid from the Grant when the application was submitted will be credited back to the Grant account.

4 Basic training Basic Outdoor Skills Course Pre - Requisite - before attending this course all e-learning modules listed under the Basic Outdoor Skills area must be completed. It is also recommended that the Basic Practical Course is completed prior to attending the Basic Outdoor Skills Course (BOS). Refer to the Learning and Assessment Plan for more details. This course requires participants to establish and maintain a temporary overnight campsite as well participating in a bush walk If for any reason a Leader considers themselves unable to undertake the activity for physical or medical reason then please advise the Training Department on application for the course. This will allow the course Leader to discuss with the participant what reasonable adjustments are available to enable a Leader to adequately meet the Scouting requirements of this course. This course is part of the Basic Training for Scout Leaders,Venturer Scout Leaders, Rover Advisers and must be completed before attending an Advanced course. If you wish to apply for Recognition of Proficiency for the BOS course please refer to Basic Outdoor Skills Overview document which can be found under Training in the Members area of SMS. There is a $25.00 administration charge for the recognition of proficiency process. If you wish to obtain the relevant VET units of competency, this is done via RPL process. please refer to Scouts Australia website under Adult Program. program.
