2 Basic Setup Connecting the Telerain Linksys SPA 2102 with a router The SPA 2102 will be placed right after your DSL or Cable Modem before the router. 1. Connect the Internet port of the SPA 2102 to your network Cable or DSL Modem. 2. Connect the Ethernet port of the SPA 2102 to your network Router. 3. Connect your telephone to the PHONE 1 port, or to PHONE 2 if this is your second line on the device. 4. Connect the power & wait 10 minutes.

3 Connecting the Linksys SPA 2102 without a router 1. Connect the Internet port of the SPA 2102 to your network Cable or DSL Modem. 2. Connect the Ethernet port of the SPA 2102 to your computer. 3. Connect your telephone to the PHONE 1 port, or to PHONE 2 if this is your second line on the device. 4. Connect the power & wait 10 minutes.

5 Troubleshooting No Dial Tone Go through this checklist until problem is solved: 1. Make sure the telephone is plugged into the correct port of Phone Make sure the green Power LED is solid lit. If it is not lit, check the power cord. If it is blinking wait few more minutes with the phone on hook. 3. Make sure the green Internet LED on the back panel of the Phone Adapter is lit, and then pick up the telephone; you should now hear a dial tone. How to Properly Reboot 1. Power off your modem by unplugging the power adapter. 2. Power off the router by unplugging the power adapter. 3. Power off the Phone Adapter by unplugging power adapter. 4. Wait two (2) minutes, then power on modem by plugging power adapter into an electrical outlet. 5. Wait five (2) minutes, then power on the Phone Adapter by plugging power adapter into an electrical outlet. 6. Wait two (2) minutes, then power on the router by plugging the power adapter into an electrical outlet. 7. Reboot your computer and check for an active internet connection.8. Pick up the telephone. You should now have a dial tone.

6 Lights Power The Power light shines red when power is first plugged in. Flashes blue when connection is being set up. This light should be solid blue when the power is on and the device is ready. It will light up when the router is powered on, and will flash blue as it is booting up, or for a system self-test or firmware upgrade. If the power light is red, this would indicate a malfunction. Ethernet This light should display a solid blue when an Internet connection is established. If it is off, then this would indicate no connection on Ethernet. It will flash green when data is being transmitted. Phone 1 The phone light should be GREEN when the ATA is registered and provisioned. It will blink when a connected phone is being used or an incoming call has been detected. When the phone is not in use the Phone LED will be solid as long as the ATA is registered. If the Phone LED is not lit, then the ATA has no registration.

7 The lights on the adapter will blink for about five minutes while the adapter talks our system to get set up when you first plug it in. Once the lights have stopped flashing you should get a dial tone when you pick up the phone and you can use it just like any normal phone. Choppy Sound Solutions Experiencing choppy sounds on the SPA 2102 indicates that you do not have enough upstream bandwidth to support your VoIP conversations. We require at least 80kbps in each direction to hold a stable conversation. If you only have, for example, 128kbps upstream and also have a game player, FTP session or some other function going on in your home while trying to have a phone conversation you could end up with your ATA not being able to get the bandwidth it needs to support the call. If connected just after the DSL or Cable modem the ATA will always attempt to give priority to voice.

8 Frequently Asked Questions What can I do to eliminate choppy sound on the SPA 2102? Experiencing choppy sounds on the SPA 2102 indicates that you do not have enough upstream bandwidth to support your VoIP conversations. We require at least 80kbps in each direction to hold a stable conversation. If you only have, for example, 128kbps upstream and also have a game player, FTP session or some other function going on in your home while trying to have a phone conversation you could end up with your ATA not being able to get the bandwidth it needs to support the call. If I lose power or my internet connection goes down, will I lose phone service? If you lose power, or your broadband service is unavailable, you will not have phone service. When the power or broadband service resumes, it is recommended to reboot your ATA device. When I make a telephone call, the call does not go through. Instead, I hear a fast busy signal. 1. Pick up your phone and try dialing 1+ the area code then the phone number. If this does not work, you will need to reboot your system completely. 2. Power off your modem by unplugging the power adapter. 3. Power off the router by unplugging the power adapter. 4. Power off the Phone Adapter by unplugging power adapter.iv. Wait two (2) minutes, then power on modem by plugging power adapter into an electrical outlet. 5. Wait two (2) minutes, then power on the router by plugging the power adapter into an electrical outlet. 6. Wait five (5) minutes, then power on the Phone Adapter by plugging power adapter into an electrical outlet. 7. Reboot your computer and check for an active internet connection. 8. Pick up the telephone. You should now have a dial tone.

9 When I am on a telephone call, words are dropped intermittently. If you are using a wireless router and a cordless phone, they may be using the same frequency and may interfere with each other. Move the cordless phone farther away from the router. There may be heavy network activity, especially if you are running a server or using a file sharing program. It is recommended to limit network or internet activity during VoIP telephone calls. There may not be enough bandwidth available for your Internet phone call. You may want to test your bandwidth using one of the bandwidth tests available online, such as speed test onlined. For more information, refer to your Internet Service Provider s website. My telephone does not ring and my calls automatically go to voic 1. Make sure the telephone is plugged into the correct port of Phone 1 on the Phone Adapter. 2. Make sure the ringer volume on the telephone is set to an audible level. 3. It is recommended that you reboot the system The Status LED does not light up. Check the cable connecting the Phone Adapter to your router. Make sure your network has an active Internet connection.
