If it does not re-register, the BBMD removes it from its Foreign Device Table (FDT) and discontinues forwarding messages to the foreign device. English (0)- Metric(1)/Determines the type of units that are passed through the BACnet network. Initial Value/Note None / If the default gateway address is changed, the update is automatically applied to the BACnet Communication Module as soon as the change is received. Changing the default gateway address may affect the operation of other BACnet devices on the network if they are dependent on objects within the device. None / If the BBMD address is not 0, the BACnet Communication Module sends a Register-Foreign-Device message to the address. If the result code returned is X 0000, the BACnet Communication Module renews the registration at the period defined by the Foreign Device Time-To-Live value. If the BBMD address is changed, the update is automatically applied to the BACnet Communication Module as soon as the change is received. If the new value is 0, the existing signup is no longer refreshed and will be allowed to expire. In other words, when a BBMD IP address is defined here, a Register- Foreign-Device message is sent to register the chiller unit controller s IP address with the BBMD. This message is continuously sent out before the Foreign Device Time expires. 18 Service Information Troubleshooting General If you can control the unit from the chiller unit controller OITS display, but you are not able to communicate with unit via the BACnet network/bas workstation, follows these steps: Check the network wiring Verify BAS Network Protocol is set correctly using the chiller unit controller OITS display. Check the network parameters and verify that they are correct and that there are no duplicate devices on the network. Verify that the serial cable is connected from the CPU to the chiller I/O backplane board at J16 (ribbon cable) is connected. Reduce (isolate) the network to one single unit controller. Once this small network is working properly, continue to add more devices to the network. BACnet IP If Protocol Type is set to BACnet IP, use the standard TCP/IP suite of protocols to check your connectivity with other devices. Using the PC s Windows Command Prompt, type ping <IP address of the BACnet Communications Module>. If you get a response from that IP address, you are connected to the BACnet Communication Module. If you do not get a response, verify the BACnet Communication Module and the PC network settings. BACnet MS/TP BACnet MS/TP-specific communication errors could result from one or more of the following conditions below. Follow these steps: Verify that there are no duplicate MAC Addresses and/or Device-IDs on the network. Check that no more than two network bias resistors are installed. Confirm that all terminations exist and/or remove any invalid terminations, particularily in the middle of the bus. Verify that polarity is correct (a single node can disrupt the MS/TP network.) Check that there are no more than 32 devices installed in a single segment (using standard transceivers.) Verify correct topology (e.g. a star topology rather than a straight bus topology) may impact physical medium (Layer 1). You should carefully follow the EIA-485 specifications (see If the BACnet Communication Module still does not respond, contact the McQuay Controls Customer Support Group at 866-4MCQUAY ( ).
