4 The strategic issues TEAHA has identified It is important to show to the widest audience (including the networked home community) what the foreseen developments concretely offer Need f or demonstration and consumer awareness Need f or seamless interoperability of all appliances So that a global home platform can lead to less expensive systems, simpler to use, offering an extended range of services Need f or ultra lost cost powercord solutions So that white good manufacturers can offer a suitable communication solution for all their models with limited extra cost per model Information & Entertainment Comfort & Control Need f or advanced RF solutions So that a suited communication solution does exist, for all comfort and control applications (white goods, energy management, security, automation, )

5 How TEAHA is addressing these issues Have the project developments demonstrated at the lab scale and prepare for a large scale set of market trials (Project phase 2) Project period: Jan. 04 to Dec. 06 Project cost: 5 M IST grant: 50% Bridge Home network 1 Home network 2 Need f or demonstration and consumer awareness Device Cluster C2 Cluster C1 Intercluster Interworking Need f or seamless interoperability of all appliances Development of a middleware framework specification which is network independent, and include advanced service discovery features and security mechanisms Development of advanced residential gateway subsystems Promotion of the initiative at the level of standardisation bodies, within the IST community (eperspace, Medianet, Amigo), and at the occasion of an annual TEAHA Open Forum Research, develop and test an ultra low cost powercord solution (target cost: 1/10 of the cost necessary to have an on-board fullfledged network node) Need f or ultra lost cost powercord solutions Need f or advanced RF solutions Research, develop and test an improved RF solution (cost, range, robustness, flexibility) to be acceptable as a standard for home control / comfort applications
