2 General Pow-R-Command 1000 System The Pow-R-Command 1000 (PRC1000) system is a complete network of devices that allows a facility s electrical use to be efficiently managed. With the Pow-R-Command 1000, individual loads can be switched through a network of individual panels which are influenced by building automation systems, wall switches, time schedules, software, or through telephone commands, etc. See Technical Document TD E for more information on the Pow-R-Command 1000 system. Applications for PRC1000 Systems The Pow-R-Command 1000 system is primarily designed for larger facilities where multiple nodes are networked together to allow control through software. However, the Pow-R-Command 1000 can be scaled down to meet the needs of some smaller facilities while offering the same functions as a large networked system. The Pow-R-Command system efficiently controls electrical loads yet maintains a compact design. It may also be integrated seamlessly into building automation systems, security systems and fire/emergency systems. Network Philosophy The Pow-R-Command 1000 system is designed to interface with a number of devices. In most circumstances, the Pow-R-Command system uses an RS-485 protocol and communication standard to send and receive commands between control devices (see Figure 1). This RS-485 network is accessed through either RS-232 or Ethernet. For more information on RS-485 to RS-232 and Ethernet, please see Technical Document TD E. Beyond these capabilities, the Pow-R-Command 1000 system is capable of communication through BACnet, Modbus, OPC and SOAP. 3 Software Controlled Systems The Pow-R-Command Lighting Optimization Software facilitates program control, integration with other software systems, and the moving of data across applications. Through software, the labor required for hard-wiring control systems can be reduced or eliminated, while functionality and ease-of-use are increased. Functional Types of Software All software available for lighting control systems can be classified generally into three categories: Engineering workstation User workstations Integration software These three categories are described briefly in the following paragraphs. Engineering Workstations Facility managers use the Lighting Optimization Software at the engineering workstations to program the system and all the nodes. This includes all the minute timing, control and communication functions. The facility manager is given access to features not available to the user workstations. User Workstations The software for user workstations allows all authorized users to access data from the lighting control system and to process simple commands such as overrides and scheduling. Typically, the software for user workstations does not have the ability to program the system or nodes. The interfaces in the user workstation software are typically simple and utilize graphic illustrations. The user can interact with parts of the lighting control system without learning a new software package. In the Pow-R-Command 1000 system, the custom graphics screens and Web Server software provide the necessary abilities for user workstations. Integration Software In some situations it is necessary and/or beneficial to integrate the lighting control system into other systems. In the Pow-R-Command 1000 system, this can be done through software such as an OPC (OLE for Process Control) server or the DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange) server. PRC1000 System Software All of the power and abilities of the Pow-R-Command 1000 system are achieved through the use of software. Pow-R-Command 1000 software allows a facility to set schedules, create groups, track use, and communicate with other software programs. PRC1000 Software Levels Separate levels of software have been created so that a facility has the tools needed to run the Pow-R-Command 1000 system. Each level acts as an additional feature to the other. These levels of software are: Engineering Level: The Lighting Optimization Software allows for basic set-up of Pow-R-Command 1000 network and all the devices attached to it. User Level: The Pow-R-Command 1000 Custom Graphics and Data Logging software allows users to collect, store and trend system information such as run-time cycles. The Custom Graphics and Data Logging software package allows custom screens to be built into the Pow-R-Command 1000 system. Please see Technical Document TD E for more information on the Pow-R- Command 1000 Custom Graphics and Data Logging software. Additional User Level: The Pow-R-Command 1000 Web Server Software allows custom graphic screens and reports to be viewed using an Internet browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. Please see Technical Data TD E for more information on the Pow-R-Command 1000 Web Server Software. Integration Level: The Pow-R-Command 1000 OPC Software uses industry standard protocols to facilitate an exchange of information between separate software packages. For more information on the Pow-R-Command 1000 OPC Server Software, please see Technical Document TD E. A compact version of the Pow-R-Command 1000 Lighting Optimization Software for use with Pocket PCs is also available. This can be used to carry out basic diagnostic and maintenance functions for individual controllers. For more information on the use of Pocket PC s with a Pow-R-Command 1000 system, please see Technical Document TD E. Connecting to the PRC1000 System All levels of Pow-R-Command 1000 software are designed to reside on an IBM compatible PC with a Microsoft Windows operating system. Once installed, Pow-R-Command 1000 software allows users to command and retrieve information from the system. This communication occurs through a Pow-R-Command 1000 network access device. There are three primary Pow-R-Command 1000 network access devices: Unitary Modem Interface Network Interface Box Ethernet Server The Lighting Optimization Software can work with all three types, as can the Custom Graphics Package. However, the Web Server Software is recommended for use only with an Ethernet Server. In addition, the Web Server software, as the name implies, must be installed on a PC that is used as a server. For more information on Pow-R-Command 1000 network access devices, see Technical Document TD E. FIGURE 2. 5 Lighting Optimization Software Pow-R-Command 1000 Lighting Optimization Software is the basic level of software available. With the Pow-R-Command 1000 Lighting Optimization Software, users can program and interact with the Pow-R-Command 1000 network and attached nodes. Lighting Optimization Software Capabilities & Functions The Pow-R-Command 1000 Lighting Optimization Software has a wide variety of capabilities. Some of those capabilities are listed below. Those functions that deserve explanation are called out and described. For more detailed information on the Pow-R-Command 1000 Lighting Optimization Software, as well as programming instructions, please see document TD E. Define networks: In order to be programmed, each network in a facility needs to be configured by software. Once configured, the software stores the type of network device used, how to communicate with it, and other critical information. At the basic level, the Pow-R-Command 1000 Lighting Optimization Software is capable of recognizing only one site. To access multiple Pow-R-Command 1000 sites through one PC, the Custom Graphics Screens and Data Logging Software is required (see Technical Document TD E). Establish controller identities: Each Pow-R-Command 1000 controller is identified by address and type. In each system, a maximum of 120 individual addresses can be assigned to controllers. The controller type is set in part through the type of database installed on the controller. In addition, each node can be given a four-character user-defined name. Graphically illustrate the system: The Lighting Optimization Software graphically illustrates all controllers and programming options, making user interaction simple. Control time schedules: Each controller can store a fixed number of schedules for operation based on time. Each controller contains a 12-hour 7-day time clock with day-light savings and astronomical features as standard. Schedules are set through simple graphic user interface screens and can target individual switching devices or groups of devices. Control holiday schedules: Each controller can store 30 singleday individual holidays. Once set, each holiday is automatically programmed for one year. In addition, single event schedules are available for special non-periodic events. Create groups: To more efficiently control switching devices, each device can be assigned into one or more of a possible 16 groups per controller. Once a group is established, time and holiday schedules can be assigned. Create controller interaction: Each controller has the ability to accept input from sources other than software. However, inputs must be programmed for type and action through software. Once this is done, a user can program each controller to signal other controller(s) of status on inputs and any action that must be taken. Create logical commands: The Pow-R-Command 1000 Lighting Optimization Software has the ability to create limited logical statements that are used to compare values of variables and perform simple mathematical functions. The outcome of the logical statements can then be used to control groups or other outputs in the system. Program controller outputs: Many of the Pow-R-Command 1000 system control nodes have analog and/or digital outputs. Through software, these outputs can be controlled and commanded to perform tasks such as dimming. Set security levels for access: Software can be configured to contain multiple levels of password protected entrance to the software. Furthermore, functions available to users can be adjusted to suit user levels. By default, each installed software package is established with a user level and an administration level of access. Assign and designate controller inputs: Each controller on the Pow-R-Command 1000 system allows for some type of input to the system from a source other than software. Through software, users can designate the input type and any actions that must be taken when the value of the input changes. Commonly used are switch inputs from a dry contact closure. Inputs can be configured as: Maintained Maintained Change Momentary On or Off Momentary On Momentary 3-Wire Momentary Incremental Analog Compare Analog Track Occupancy Sensor Pulse Accumulator Set Point Dimmer Complex Control Command switching devices: (Relays or Smart Breakers ) Each switching device on the network can be individually commanded On or Off through graphic interactive screens. Track alarms: Each Pow-R-Command 1000 controller has the ability to log alarms. Alarms include, among other things, status errors from controllers or power failures. Through the Pow-R- Command 1000 Lighting Optimization Software, these alarms can be accessed and stored for further use. Transfer databases: Time schedules, group, functional type, and the address of a controller are stored in a Pow-R-Command 1000 database. The Pow-R-Command 1000 Lighting Optimization Software facilitates the transfer of these databases to controllers. Backup databases: When a program is created, it can be stored either on the PC s hard drive, in each controller, or in the network access devices for the system. Configure expansion panels: The PRC1000 Lighting Optimization Software allows the user to give names to and designate the configuration of expansion panels. This is further explained in the next section. EATON CORPORATION Cutler-Hammer Pow-R-Command 1000 Technical Data TD E Copyright
6 Expansion Panel Configuration The PRC1000 is capable of controlling three fully loaded expansion panels (PRCEP) through its SLAN. The Lighting Optimization Software contains the tools required to identify and configure panels and circuits on the network. After adding the PRC1000 controller to the network, expansion panels may be added and configured using the Subpanel dialog. For detailed information concerning expansion panels, see Installation Leaflet IL E and document TD E.
