2 Notes on System Architecture The BACnet Driver in BACnet MS/TP mode (Figure 1) supports the following: BACnet MS/TP or BACnet/IP ALN on Firmware 3.x. If the driver is on a BACnet MS/TP network, you can use a standard field panel with Firmware Revision 3.1 or later as a router to connect to a BACnet workstation. Do not use an Integration Driver as the router. One physical connection to FLN 1 only. Up to 255 BACnet MS/TP devices, of which up to 126 can be masters. TX-I/O Modules. Maximum of 8,000 TALON points per driver. The actual number of BACnet MS/TP devices that the driver can support is dependent on the devices themselves, the number of points per device, and their electrical constraints. Notes on System Architecture The BACnet Driver in BACnet/IP mode (Figure 2) supports the following: Up to 255 BACnet/IP devices. TX-I/O Modules. Maximum of 8,000 TALON points per driver. The actual number of BACnet/IP devices that the driver can support is dependent on the devices themselves, the number of points per device, and their electrical constraints. Functionality The BACnet Driver provides communication between the Siemens Automation System and the BACnet system. The BACnet Driver operates in two modes: BACnet MS/TP mode or BACnet/IP mode. Both modes are exclusive and cannot be used together at the same time. The BACnet Driver can be loaded into TC Modular or TC-36 hardware. The driver is a microprocessor-based, multi-tasking platform designed for multi-system communication and control. The BACnet Driver communicates with BACnet workstation software, other TALON field panels and controllers, and the BACnet system. 2

3 Through the BACnet workstation, the BACnet points can be monitored and commanded. The BACnet points integrated into the TALON Automation System can be accessed by system applications, such as Powers Process Control Language (PPCL), scheduling, trending, and alarming. The BACnet Driver will not affect, in any way, the operating sequence or safeties as factory-programmed into the BACnet system. The BACnet Driver is fully compatible with the Field Panel Web Server. You can now incorporate the benefits of Field Panel Web Server user interface and Launch Pad in combination with this popular Integration Driver. This driver is also compatible with FIN Builder and FIN Lite based graphics which are licensed options. Integrated points are fully available in FIN Builder graphics, plus the controller database is supported by the Field Panel Web Server configuration tools.
