1 Design Dost Statewide WAN + Remote Dial-in connectivity Client: One of the Railway offices in a Southern State The customer wanted to establish WAN connectivity between 6 Zonal offices and 7 branch offices and 3 remote locations. Of the 6 Zonal offices, two were already connected through Gigabit Fiber backbone. One Zonal office had 0 Branches, other had 4 branches, another had 3 branches and one another had branch that needed line connectivity with auto ISDN back-up connectivity. Other than these branches, 40 remote locations in one Zonal office, 25 remote locations in another, 93 remote locations in the third location, 28 remote locations in the fourth location, 88 remote locations in the fifth and 37 remote locations in the last one needed dial-up Central location. The bandwidth required for the connectivity was between Head office and 4 Zonal offices and between Zonal office and its branches. The customer wanted the connectivity to be always-on and also needed auto ISDN backup connectivity, in case the primary leased line failed. The customer preferred SNMP Management option in the devices. The customer preferred VOIP connectivity at all the locations. Summary of Dax solution: At the Head office, Dax recommended the customer to opt for Multi-wan slot, Modular Enterprise Router that supports high throughput to provide leased line as well as ISDN backup connectivity to the branches. For other Zonal Offices, Dax recommended the customer to opt for Modular Aggregation Routers with multi WAN slots to provide leased line as well as ISDN backup branches. For the Branches, Dax recommended the customer to opt for Modular Access Routers with 2 WAN slots to provide leased line connectivity as well as auto ISDN backup. For LAN connectivity, Dax recommended structured cabling network with 24 port 0/00 Mbps Layer 2 SNMP switches and 8 port 0/00 Mbps port Layer 2 Managed switches for connecting the nodes. For Dial-up connectivity, Dax recommended the customer to go for a 24 port RAS with External modems at the Zonal offices to allow remote dial-in users. At the remote locations, Dax recommended the customer to opt for External Analog modem (since it is a standalone PC) to dial in to the Zonal Office. For VOIP, Dax recommended the customer to opt for 2-port FXS gateway at all the locations. Connectivity between Zonal Offices

3 Details of Dax solution: Head Office: At the Head office, Dax recommended Dax Maipu DXMP-269 Modular Enterprise Router, which has 4 Network Module Slots and # fixed Fast Ethernet Port. connectivity to 4 Zonal offices RM2A-4SA 4-port ISDN backup Zonal offices 4-port ISDN BRI U Module as well as ISDN backup connectivity to 0 branches RM2A 2CE 2-port Channelized E/PRI One port of the 2-port CE was recommended to be loaded with CE line. A single channelized E has 30 Channels of dedicated 64k links meant for connecting 0 branches, each at a speed of 64 Kbps. The second port of the 2 port channelized E Module was recommended to be loaded with ISDN PRI line for providing auto ISDN back -up to the said 0 branches. One PRI line gives out 30 nos of 64 Kbps ISDN B Channels. Thus, the 0 branches would get simultaneous back - up, in case the leased line fails. At Zonal office : Dax recommended DXMP-76 Modular Aggregation Router, which has 4 Network Module slots and # fixed Fast Ethernet port. connectivity to 4 offices RM2A-4SA 4-port Auto ISDN back-up 4 offices 4-port ISDN BRI U At Zonal office 2: Dax recommended DXMP-700 Modular Access Router that has four WAN slots and # fixed Fast Ethernet port. connectivity to Head office RM2-SA -port RM2-SA

5 Auto ISDN back-up Zonal Offices H.O, nearby location and branch 4-port ISDN BRI U For the branch offices: At each branch, Dax recommended DXMP-600 Modular Access Router, which has two WAN slots and # fixed Ethernet port. One slot was recommended to be loaded with to provide leased line Zonal Office at a speed of. The second slot was recommended to be loaded with ISDN S/T to provide auto ISDN back-up connectivity, in case the primary leased line fails. Modems: For terminating the CE and PRI lines, Dax recommended the customer to opt for 2 pairs of G.703 interface modems. For terminating the line in all other locations, Dax recommended the customer to opt for line Modem pairs (V.35 and G.703 pair). Dial-up connectivity: For providing dial-up remote locations, Dax recommended Dax Perle JS8524 RAS, which has 24 Analog RS232 Ports, which can connect up to 24 dial-up modems concurrently (Analog as well as ISDN). The remote users would dial into this RAS, establish PPP connectivity and access the LAN resources available in the Zonal Office. Thus, as many as 24 remote users could dial in concurrently. LAN Connectivity: Dax recommended DX-5026MF and DX-508MS Layer 2 Managed switches as per the requirement. DX -5026MF has 24 nos of 0/00Mbps ports and expansion slots to accommodate 2 nos of 00FX ports. DX-508MS has 8 nos of 0/00Mbps ports. VoIP: At each location, Dax recommended DX-3502A FX S based Gateway that has 2 ports, allowing two concurrent voice channels. Highlights of the solution:

6 Highlights of WAN connectivity: Scalability: The routers recommended at the Zonal Offices have free slots, which can be used to connect more locations in future just by loading appropriate s. Thus, the solution is easily scalable. Redundancy: The connectivity from the Zonal offices to the branches is through a leased line link with an auto ISDN back-up. If the leased line fails, the back up would automatically initiate the connection and maintain the uptime. When the leased line is restored, the ISDN backup connection will disconnect automatically. Support for Industry Standard Routing Protocols: Dax Maipu routers support Industry standard LAN/WAN Protocols such as Default Gateway, Static Route, RIP V/V2, OSPF, BGP, DDR, IGRP etc, thereby ensuring interoperability with other vendor products. Supports high throughput: DXMP-269 Router has throughput up to 95~0Kpps and DXMP-76 Router has a throughput of 68Kpps, which allows these to be used for central site application, where high throughput and high port density on the router is required. Management option: Dax Maipu routers support SNMP. Hence, the customer can manage all these devices from any industry standard NMS software. Interoperability: Dax Maipu routers support standard compatibility for flawless interoperability. Its modular design supports various interfaces that guarantee easy upgradability and scalability. It's feature-rich routing make DAX Maipu routers versatile, effective platform for any routing connectivity. Dax Maipu routers support a robust Command Interface that complies with the defacto industry standard, saving potential huge training costs. Operating system Platform Independency: Dax Maipu routers are operating system independent and PC / Server independent. Router function is based on IP protocol. Thus, when the customer changes their operating system platform, all WAN connectivity devices would function normally with out the need for change in the configuration. In -built Security Mechanisms: Dax Maipu routers allow end-to-end secured encryption, with VPN option too available (Product code: DX -IPSEC -SW). The routers support industry standard security protocols such as L2TP, GRE by default. Highlights of LAN connectivity: Zero configurations required for setting up the switch: All ports in the switch support auto detection of 0 Mbps or 00 Mbps speed depending on the configuration. In addition, the ports supports Auto MDI/MDIX with which the switch can automatically recognize if the port is connected to a network node or cascaded to a switch and connect accordingly. Effective network traffic regulation: Dax DX-5026MF Switch support both Port based and Tagged based VLAN. DX-508MS support Port based VLAN. By implementing VLAN, the broadcast traffic is restricted to each VLAN group. As a result, the broadcast traffic of a single segment does not reach another segment. One of the biggest advantages of VLANs is that, when a computer is physically moved to another location, it can stay on the same VLAN without any hardware reconfiguration. VLANs reduce a large part of the administration costs when users change locations within a building or campus.

7 Other benefits of VLAN are improved performance (by curtailing broadcasts to that VLAN group only), increased security and easier manageability. Support for Management: DX -5026MF Switch and DX-508MS provides SNMP Management features with default MIB2, Bridge MIB, Ethernet MIB and RMON MIB. Thus, these switches can be managed from any industry Standard NMS software. Support for Fiber in DX-5026MF: Dax DX-5026MF supports two optional 00 Mbps Fibre s for easy network expansion via fiber media. Thus, when the user wants to upgrade the LAN network, the 2 # 00FX s may be used. Operating System Independency: Dax switches are operating system independent and PC / Server independent. Thus, when the user changes their operating system platform, all LAN connectivity devices would function normally without the need for change in the configuration. Highlights of Dial-up connectivity: Provision for Call back for enhanced security in JS8524 RAS: JS8524 RAS supports features such as Fixed Call back and Roaming call back, with which the RAS device can be configured to call back the specific user or pre-configured phone number. This feature disallows un-authorized users from dialing in to the network of the customer. Support for Web Based Management: JS8524 is extremely easy to configure and manage through web-based interface. Full Security Suite in JS8524: JS8524 supports comprehensive suite of security features for Remote Access Server applications. It supports SLIP, PPP and RADIUS based authentication support (with the help of external Radius server). Support for Call Waiting Feature in Dax 56K External Modems: Using V.92 technology, the users of remote locations can use the call-waiting feature from the Telco. Whenever the user is online, the user will be able to put the modem "On-hold" and answer the phone without losing Internet connection. V.92 support is available in Dax 56K external modem for all major OS like Win9x/WinME/Win2000/WinXP. Highlights of VOIP connectivity: Reduce Voice communication charges to zero: Dax VoIP solution help reduce the Voice calls within the IP network. Since it uses the existing leased line links, STD lines can be avoided and thus communication charges can also be brought to zero. Supports 2 # 0 / 00 Ethernet ports: With a 2-port switch in-built the DX-3502A, a single Ethernet data outlet can be shared both by the PC as well as the IP phone. With this, a separate Ethernet cable provision need not be provided to the desk area where the Gateway is installed. Hotline facility: Dax FXS Gateways support Hotline configuration, by which any 2 # locations can be configured with Hotline VoIP connection similar to regular telephone Hotline. The user need not dial the remote number. A permanent connection similar to Hotline can be configured in the IP network. G.7 A/u-Law, G.723. voice coder support: Conformance to ITU standards for conversion of analog voice lines into digital ones and sampling ensures quality of speech close to conventional phone call. T.38 Fax detection support:dax FXS Gateways support Fax over IP with G.729, which consumes less bandwidth. With this support, the fax transfer will also be done through the existing IP

8 network. Support for Web Based Management: Web management allows configuration of FXS devices in the network from any web browser. Thus, any device in the network can be configured using Web browser. Thus administration of the network is made easy.
