1 Page 1 Introduction to AutoCAD 2012 Alf Yarwood Chapter 6 Exercise 1 1. Open AutoCAD 2012 with a double-click on its shortcut icon in the Windows desktop. 2. Open the template acadiso.dwt. 3. Make sure Osnaps are set on with a left-click on the Object Snap button in the status bar. 5. Open your drawing in answer to Exercise 1 of Chapter Make the layer Dimensions current. 7. Left-click the Linear tool icon in the Annotate/Dimensions panel. 8. Dimension the main linear dimensions of the drawing. The following shows the series of command line prompts as the first two of these are placed: Command: _dimlinear Specify first extension line origin or <select object>: pick Specify second extension line origin: pick Specify dimension line location or [Mtext/Text/Angle/Horizontal/Vertical/Rotated]: pick a point for the 160 dimension Command: right-click DIMLINEAR Specify first extension line origin or <select object>: pick Specify second extension line origin: pick [Mtext/Text/Angle/Horizontal/Vertical/Rotated]: pick a point for the 120 dimension Command: right-click 9. Now add the other linear dimensions to the drawing.
2 Page Left-click the Radius tool icon in the Annotation/Dimensions panel and add the radial dimensions to the drawing. 11. Open your drawing constructed when answering Exercise 4 from Chapter Add the radius dimensions to the drawing. 13. Place a memory stick in a USB port and save your drawing with the file name 6_Exercise01.dwg to your memory stick. 14. Left-click the Close button of the drawing window. Chapter 6 Exercise 2 1. Open AutoCAD 2012 with a double-click on its shortcut icon in the Windows desktop. 2. Open the Imperial measurements template. 3. Bring the Dimension Style Manager dialog to screen with a leftclick on the arrow at the bottom right-hand corner of the Annotate/ Dimensions panel. 4. Make entries in the Tolerances sub-dialog as shown.
3 Page 3 5. Construct the drawing in Fig without the dimensions as shown in that illustration. 6. Add the toleranced dimensions as shown. 7. Save your drawing with the file name 6_Exercise02.dwg to your memory stick. 8. Left-click the Close button of the drawing window. Chapter 6 Exercise 3 1. Open AutoCAD 2012 with a double-click on its shortcut icon in the Windows desktop. 2. Open the Imperial drawing template. 3. Construct the drawing to the given sizes using the Line and Arc tools and dimension as shown in Fig Save your drawing with the file name 6_Exercise03.dwg to your memory stick. 5. Left-click the Close button of the drawing window.
4 Page 4 Chapter 6 Exercise 4 1. Open AutoCAD 2008 with a double-click on its shortcut icon in the Windows desktop. 2. Open the template acadiso.dwt. 3. Construct the two polygons using the Polygon tool from the 2D Draw control panel. 4. With the Line tool draw the required diagonals. 5. With the Trim tool, trim unwanted detail to obtain the required outlines. 6. Call the Polyline Edit tool and, using the Multiple prompt, join the lines of the outlines into polylines. 7. Still with the Polyline Edit tool change the line-widths to At the command line: Command: enter dim right-click Dim: enter an right-click Select arc, circle, line, or <specify vertex>: pick one arm of the angle to be dimensioned Select second line: pick the other arm Specify dimension arc line location or [Mtext/Text/Angle]: pick Enter dimension text <36>: right-click Enter text location (or press ENTER): pick position for text Dim: right-click ANGULAR Select arc, circle, line, or <specify vertex>: pick Select second line: pick Specify dimension arc line location or [Mtext/Text/Angle]: pick Enter dimension text <108>: right-click Enter text location (or press ENTER): pick Dim: 9. Continue in this manner until all four angles have been dimensioned. 10. Save your drawing with the file name 6_Exercise03.dwg to your memory stick. 11. Left-click the Close button of the drawing window.
5 Page 5 Chapter 6 Exercise 5 1. Open AutoCAD 2012 with a double-click on its shortcut icon in the Windows desktop. 2. Open the template acadiso.dwt. 3. At the command line enter st followed by a right-click. This will bring the Text Style dialog on screen. Left-click the popup arrow in the Font Name field and left-click Sans Serif. Left-click the New button and in the New Text Style dialog enter Sans Serif in the Style Name field, followed by a left-click on the dialog s OK button. In the Font Style popup list select Bold. In the Height field enter 20. Left-click both the Apply and Close buttons. 4. At the command line: Command: enter dt right-click TEXT Current text style: "Sans Serif" Text height: enter 20 right-click Specify start point of text or [Justify/Style]: pick Specify rotation angle of text <0>: right-click Enter text: enter AutoCAD 2012 left-click Command: 5. Call the Rectangle tool with a left-click on its tool icon in the Draw toolbar. The command line continues: Command: _rectang Specify first corner point or [Chamfer/Elevation/Fillet/Thickness/Width]: enter f right-click Specify fillet radius for rectangles <0>: enter 10 right-click Specify first corner point or [Chamfer/Elevation/Fillet/Thickness/Width]: enter w rightclick Specify line width for rectangles <0>: enter 5 right-click Specify first corner point or [Chamfer/Elevation/Fillet/Thickness/Width]: pick Specify other corner point or [Area/Dimensions/Rotation]: pick Command: 6. Save your drawing with the file name 6_Exercise05.dwg. 7. Left-click the Close button of the drawing window.

Erase dimensions added in answer to Exercise 1 and re-dimension the drawing with dimensions which include the tolerance ± Construct the given drawing including dimensions using the relative coordinate entry method. The Primary Units in the Dimension Style Manager must be amended before adding the dimensions. 4. Using the Multiline Text tool enter the text on screen as shown. The text has been centred by first clicking the Center tool icon in the Text Formatting dialog.
