1 PC Software Overview PC Windows compatible software enables communication and monitoring of the Temperature Micro- Logger units via an infrared interface. This document explains how to install and operate the software. Installing the Software The PC Software can be downloaded from the Arcolectric Web Site: The Logger software requires the Microsoft dot-net framework to be installed on the PC. If this is not already installed, then please follow the link to download and run dotnetfx.exe first. The computer may need to be restarted after installation has completed. Download and run the Micrologger zip file. (you may require an unzip tool) Hardware Requirements To communicate with the Micro-Logger and download its information, an infrared interface will be required. The chosen adapter must be compatible with COM port applications. Adapters that convert the data into IRDA protocol (IRDA/USB) and are not visible to Windows as a COM port are not compatible. Some built-in infrared ports are not accessible as virtual COM ports. The Micro-Logger software expects to see a serial COM port, adapters with RS232 connections are recommended. RS232 devices can generally be used in with USB/RS232 converters if no RS232 port is available. The following adapters have been tested: Infrared / RS232 Adapter Actisys Com-Port Serial Adapter ACT-IR220L+ Irxon PC Infrared Adapter SMH-IR220 Tekram IRmate IR-210 Serial Adapter Infrared / USB Adapter RS Components Running the Software Preparation Install and start the PC application

2 Connect the infrared serial adapter to an available COM port Right-click anywhere on the application windows to view the pop-up options menu Check the correct COM port is selected from the Configure drop-down menu Communicate Click the Connect button When the logger is detected and the communication is started OK, the following data can be seen: The actual real-time temperature is displayed Additional functions are enabled

3 If no communication is possible, check logger and infrared adapter are within range. The software will continue attempts to make a connection Status window shows communication activity After several attempts, and ERROR message is displayed Device failed to respond correctly Download Log Data If the logger has been recording temperature readings, the data can be downloaded. Click the button Download Log Data The memory status window indicates the total capacity used Progress bar indicates the data downloading process Temperature data is processed and passed to an Excel spreadsheet

4 An Excel sheet is created and filled with temperature data Device settings info Logging time interval Date / Time stamp Recorded temperatures Use the Excel File / Save As feature to save the data to disk Note: Ensure the date and time is correct on the receiving device when collecting the data To Start Logging Click on Logging Interval to set up the time interval In the pop-up box, enter the log time interval as Hours / Minutes / Seconds Press Update button to continue Tick Enable Logging to commence logging

5 Alarm Limits Click on High Alarm to set up the alarm limits In the pop-up box, enter the new limits Press Update button to continue When the measured temperature exceeds a limit, the LED colour will change The PC display changes colour to indicate the alarm condition Flashing Red indicated high alarm, flashing Blue indicates low alarm The alarm condition will self-reset when the temperature returns to normal Alarm Memory Tick Alarm Memory option to enable nonvolatile storage of any alarm event To reset the alarm, use the Clear Active Alarm button

6 Display Units Right-click anywhere on the application windows to view the pop-up options menu. Click on Temperature Scale and select the desired temperature units All measurements, limits and log data will be converted to these units Device I.D. The device ID can be changed to suit the location or equipment being monitored Click on Device ID Enter the required name or location Click the Update button to continue Save Settings IMPORTANT! To permanently store the changed device settings, click on the Save Settings button Otherwise the unit will revert to the previous settings at next mains power-up
