1 AMPLITUDE PHASE TRANSMITTER Model APT 326 I. Introduction Amplitude phase transmitter, model APT 326 is a microprocessor based Balancing Machine Interface. Together with APT326 Software package running on an ordinary PC the transmitter can be used on any soft bearing Balancing Machine to replace outdated instruments. APT can transmit the following data to the APT300 Software, trough a standard RS232 serial communication port: - Rotor shaft speed (in RPM) - Vibration amplitude and phase for both left and right channels (in mv rms) - Encoder Counter value (A) - Actual Encoder Z factor. - Rotor shaft speed, using Encoder pulses and Z factor. Using last two values, the rotor angle can be calculated with the formula: α = (A/Z) X 360 where α must be normalized in the range The Encoder Counter value (A) is reset each time the shaft reflective tape is passing the photocell position. The Z factor is the actual Encoder sensitivity (number of pulses between two consecutive tape passages ). Supplementary, the APT transmits on request an identification string (Instrument serial number and software version). II. 3 III. Commands description APT can be used with custom-made software. All commands are single letter without command terminator. All the answers are in standard text format (strings) and are terminated with CR and LF. If the command is not a valid command the reply will be:?<crlf>. Using direct RS232 serial communication protocol, the followings commands are implemented: 3

Upgrading APT Software. Upgrading of the APT software can be done using the APTLoader.exe application. Latest APT software version is a file with bin extension (e.g. APT_nnn.bin, where nnn is the software version). APTLoader.exe file can be found in the path where the APT Software is located. Just double-click on this file and the following window will appear: Press the BROWSE button and locate the last version of the software to be loaded. 5

6 Check if that the APT Instrument is powered and that the serial communication cable are fitted in both the PC and APT Instrument. Now press the CONNECT button to establish the connection between the APTLoader software and APT Instrument. Press the LOAD button to start upgrading. Wait until the new software are successfully loaded in the APT Instrument. Press the EXIT button when finished. 6
