H A PROBING SYSTEMS FOR CO-ORDINATE MEASURING MACHINES TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

Renishaw pursues a policy of continuous product development and improvement, and reserves the right to change technical specification without notice.

RENISHAW S TECHNOLOGY CONTENTS TOUCH TRIGGER PROBES 2-8 Co-ordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) have evolved from origins founded in simple layout machines and manually operated systems, to highly accurate, automated inspection centres. A major factor in this evolution has been the touch trigger and other forms of inspection probes, and subsequent Renishaw innovations, such as the motorised probe head and automatic probe exchange system for unmanned flexible inspection. It all started with Rolls-Royce engines for the Anglo-French Concorde when a unique solution was required for accurate pipe measurement. The result was the first touch trigger probe: a 3-D sensor capable of rapid, accurate inspection with low trigger force. From this unique starting point, Renishaw has established a range of precision probes and accessories for CMMs unequalled around the world. Renishaw s success has been made possible by the close working relationship the company enjoys with CMM manufacturers and users. The frontiers of inspection technology are constantly being extended and by close liaison throughout the design, development and evaluation process, Renishaw keeps in step with the market s needs... and, in many cases, one step ahead. From the Group s operations in Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire, Renishaw s products are exported to the world s leading industrialised nations: a fact that has been rewarded by 5 Queen s Awards for Export Achievement and 3 for Technological Achievement. 9 TP20 PROBE SYSTEM The TP20 probe module changing touch trigger probe system comprises:- The TP20 touch trigger probe and modules The MCR20 probe module change rack (optional) TP20 probe body The TP20 houses the mating half of the probe module s kinematic coupling and contains a magnetic proximity switch to inhibit triggering of the probe during automatic changing of probe modules (using the MCR20 probe module change rack). The probe module The probe module houses the kinematic switching touch sensor mechanism, carries the stylus assembly and provides overtravel in X, Y and + Z axes. The probe module is held in position on the probe body by a magnetically retained, highly repeatable, kinematic coupling. Electrical contact pins conduct the probe sense voltage through the coupling. Features are also included which minimise the possibility of a misaligned probe module generating a probe seated signal. The stylus mounting thread accepts styli from the Renishaw M2 range. 11 TP200 PROBE SYSTEM The TP200 probe system combines outstanding metrology performance with superior functionality to produce a highly versatile DCC CMM probing system. Excellent repeatability Precision 3D form measurement Stylus reach up to 100mm Module life of 10 million triggers Compact size Compatible with the full range of Renishaw probe heads and accessories PI 200 Interface Probe head (PH6 shown) TP200 probe with stylus module SCR200 Stylus changing rack TP200 PROBE The TP200 probe incorporates micro strain gauge transducers delivering excellent repeatability and accurate 3D form measurement even with long styli. Solid state ASIC electronics within the probe ensure reliable operation over millions of trigger points. STYLUS MODULE The stylus module is mounted to the probe via a highly repeatable kinematic joint, providing a rapid stylus changing capability and probe overtravel protection. Two types of module are available. The standard force module is recommended for general applications. The low force module is preferred for use with small precision ball styli or on delicate materials. STANDARD FORCE MODULE For styli up to 100mm (3.94in) length, >Ø1mm ball LOW FORCE MODULE For styli less than 50mm (1.97in) length, <Ø1mm ball PI 200 INTERFACE The PI 200 is a universal probe interface unit capable of automatic recognition and interfacing both the TP200 and conventional touch trigger probes (TP2,TP6). 245mm (9.64in) 65mm (2.55in) SCR200 STYLUS CHANGING RACK The SCR200 provides rapid, automatic changing of styli without the need to requalify stylus tips. The SCR200 is powered entirely by the PI 200 and provides features to facilitate safe stylus changing. 190mm (7.48in) 9

SP600, SP600M & SCR600 STYLUS CHANGE RACK The SP600 & SP600M (multiwired version) are analogue probes which are ideal for scanning areas of fine detail and objects such as buttons, jewellery and coins, and for profile scanning and measurement on Co-ordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs). The probes enable a CMM to gather large amounts of data very rapidly for inspection or digitising purposes. The probe offers axis movement of 1mm in each direction (X, Y and Z) with stylus lengths up to 150mm (a 200mm stylus is possible with reduced measurement range) and may be orientated using a Renishaw PH10M Motorised Head. The probe has an excellent return to zero figure of <5µm; this is a measure of its ability to mechanically return to zero when not in contact with the part, the probe output still gives its precise position. This low figure, although irrelevant to the probe accuracy, enables the use of small deflections and therefore low contact forces. Removable kinematic stylus module gives overtravel protection and easy stylus mounting. Low mass, high structural stiffness and friction free viscous damping give excellent dynamic performance characteristics. SCR600 STYLUS CHANGE RACK The SCR600 is a passive stylus change rack for use with the SP600 & SP600M, it requires no electrical connections. It is protected from overtravel (in the probe entry direction) by a mechanism in the base which can be manually reset. It houses up to 4 stylus modules per rack and any number of racks can be used in a system. 233 mm (9.17 in) 31.5 mm (1.24 in) The rack kit includes two stylus changing modules and additional modules can be purchased separately. Please note the module supplied as standard with the SP600 and SP600M probes are not the stylus changing type. 225 mm (8.86 in) Ø 55 mm (2.17 in) 10

TP800-2 PROBE SYSTEM ULTRA HIGH PRECISION TRIGGER PROBE UNPRECEDENTED PERFORMANCE Renishaw have developed a unique multi-sensing design for the TP Using shock, strain and kinematic sensors, the probe can detect the minute shock of impact between stylus and workpiece, the force exerted on the stylus during displacement and the absolute displacement of the stylus. The signals generated at contact are combined within the PI interface using novel techniques which give performance without compromise. The TP800-2 system combines ultra high precision touch trigger points with real versatility of use: a wide range of operating speeds, stylus options and workpiece material tolerance. TP800-2 PROBE The TP800-2 mounts directly on the CMM quill via a standard Renishaw shank and is designed for vertical installation only. Straight styli with extensions to a maximum of 350mm can be used. A 5-way star cluster with a maximum length vertically and horizontally of 200mm can be fitted. 88mm (3.46in) Stylus changing module The magnetic modules locate repeatably onto the TP800-2 probe for both manual and automatic stylus changing (using the SCR800 Stylus Changing Rack). This allows the automated use of a variety of stylus configurations and eliminates the need to requalify after changes. 146mm (5.75in) 623mm* (24.53in) VARIABLE The PI800-2 is 208.5mm (8.21in) deep PI interface The PI is designed to work with the TP800-2 only and it may be rack mounted or free standing. 16 VIDEO PROBES Output to SVGA monitor The Renishaw VP1M and VP2 video probe systems provide a facility for non-contact workpiece inspection and data capture on manual and DCC CMMs. This allows inspection of flexible parts, small features and 2D parts without the need for additional optical measuring equipment by complementing existing probing systems. FEATURES VPI 2 15m Maximum (40ft) AM1 PH10M EITHER PL38V, 42V 44V 45V, 46V, 56V, 59V PH1, PH5, PH6, PH8, MIH, OR PL82V 100% retrofittable to manual CMMs (VP2) Integral illumination/switchable LEDs VP2 Z axis measurement (LSZ1) Magnetic lens changing Automatic or manual edge detection Foot switch VCU2 VP1M LENS LSZ1 VIDEO PROBE INTERFACE (VPI 2) The interface is an essential part of the video probe system. It automatically detects the probe type fitted to the probe head, provides power to the probe and switches to the appropriate interfacing electronics. The video signal with graphics overlay is VGA compatible. The trigger signal is routed to the CMM via either the probe cable (or M8 thread), SSR or PICS connections. EDGE DETECTION Sampling of the centre pixel of the video image enables a light/dark transition to be detected. The trigger signal is output via the PICS or SSR connectors on the VPI 2 or returned to the probe head via the probe cable (VP2 only) and into the existing probing route. Adjustment of the trigger threshold ( greyness of the trigger point) comes from the VCU2 or RS232 communications. VIDEO CONTROL UNIT (VCU2) The VCU2 allows remote adjustment of graticules, illumination and X,Y or Z trigger. Connection of the VCU2 enables RS232 communications for automatic feature programming. 12 User Memories permit frequently used configurations to be stored and recalled with single key press. The LCD screen provides user instructions selectable in English, French, German or Italian. Z AXIS MEASUREMENT Use of the LSZ1 Module enables the video probe to be used for inspection in the Z axis. This allows a repeatable focusing height to be achieved, plane setting prior to 2D (XY) inspection and discrete Z axis data points to be collected. In addition to measuring in the Z axis the module has the ability to turn individual LEDs on or off for edge enhancement. 18 OTP6M OPTICAL PROBE SYSTEM The OTP6M optical trigger probe system utilises a visible laser spot (Class 2) to provide a non-contact inspection solution for use on Co-ordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs). The system comprises a Wolf & Beck laser probe (OTP6-LD), which operates using the optical triangulation principle, and a Renishaw interface (OPI 6). The system can be used to measure pliable or delicate materials as the sensing beam causes no distortion of the surface. It is easily retrofitted to standard touch trigger probe applications It provides repeatable Z-axis measurements and has edge-triggering capability. The OTP6-LD probe is supplied with a Renishaw Autojoint which enables autochanging using the PEM1 extension bar and the Autochange rack (ACR1). It is compatible with PH6M and PH10M probe heads. 25 THE AUTOJOINT The essential feature of any of the Renishaw Autochange systems is the Autojoint itself. This is a highly repeatable kinematic joint, one half of which is attached to the probe head, the other is attached to an adaptor, extension bar or probe. Locking and unlocking of the Autojoint is achieved either manually, using an Autojoint key, or automatically using the Autochange rack system. In both cases, the connection repeatability eliminates the need for probe redatuming after each probe exchange. 32 MOTORISED PROBE HEAD CONTROLS PHC9 PHD10 HCU1 PHC10-2 PHC9 head control receives instructions from the CMM control.the PHC9 controls all head functions and reports system status to the CMM: a) Drives PH9/9A to position - sent either from the PHD10 or CMM. b) Checks and reports position c) Flags up errors, e.g. failure to reach position, obstruction before or after locking etc. Probe triggering signals are routed through the controller to the interface. PHD10/ HCU1 are portable head drive and position display units for use with PHC9 and PHC10 respectively. Each is invaluable for setting up a component, operator controlled inspection and teach-cycle programming. Features include 2 speed action (jog and rapid move), 2 axis head display, transmit button for teach cycle; status and error LED s. PHC10-2 head control receives instructions and processes signals in a similar way to the PHC9. Software written for the PH9 System is compatible with the PH10 System but the controllers shown here are not interchangeable. PHC10 is compatible with only the PH10M/MQ/MQH. Calibration traceable to USA National Institute of Standards and Technology (Ref #731/ ). The Machine Checking Gauge also complies with British Standard BS EN ISO The probe stylus slots into the end of what is in effect a reference ball bar. The probe carries the bar with it over a spherical path, and radial readings are taken at different positions. The range of these readings indicates the Volumetric measuring performance of the CMM. Repetition of a sequence of readings checks the system for repeatability. Volumetric measuring performance is the maximum error between any two points in any plane, over any distance within the full measuring volume. 38
