2 SERVICE BULLETIN EQUIPMENT: CDM-451 DATE: 10/16/2014 BULLETIN NUMBER: CSB CDM REVISION: D Section 1 Planning Information 1.0 Implementation Approval Factory Repair Station Only 1.1 Compliance As required or upon customer request 1.2 Description This modification is a two part process involving Software and Hardware changes. The Software change installs a slave micro-processor (software -05) which incorporates a timing interlock that prevents the CDM-451 unit from inappropriately entering its calibration mode. The Hardware change is to disable the Auto-Store mechanism from occurring during a power on/off cycle and only allow it to occur when commanded by the microprocessor. 1.3 Applicability Part Number xxyy without SWID 11 and/or Hardware Mod 07. Units identified with Serial Number and below. Units with Serial Number above met compliance at the time of manufacturing. LRUs must be at Hardware MOD 04 and SWID 10 or higher in order to qualify under this Service Bulletin, except as noted here: LRUs at Hardware MOD 03 and SWID 09 may qualify for an equivalent upgrade under , CSB CDM If LRU is below Hardware MOD 04 and SWID 10, and NOT at Hardware MOD 03 and SWID 09, Service Instructions WSI-CDM and WSI-CDM must be performed before performing CSB CDM Reason Testing has demonstrated that under certain power-cycling conditions the CDM-451 can improperly trigger its calibration cycle, causing an improper 1.3nm error to appear in the displayed distance. The correction for this failure is two timing interlocks in the Slave µprocessor software version The TP4 ground state must be present for ~1s to trigger system calibration. 3 2. Calibration responses on the correct channel and distance must be present (channel 17X at 11nm+/-1.5nm) to allow calibration to occur. 4 Section 2 Procedure Instructions 2.1 Modification Procedure CAUTION Any disassembly/assembly of this unit must be done at a static safe workstation. removed modules should be placed in antistatic bags when not installed in the unit. Open the CDM-451 and gain access to the, Processor Board, Part Number in accordance with the Maintenance Manual Disassembly Procedure. Perform the following modification: * Note: Unless otherwise noted, the sequence of rework can be adjusted to facilitate the process. Software Upgrade Instructions: 1. Verify U1 is If not perform WSI-CDM Verify U2 is If not perform WSI-CDM Verify U7 is P/N If not, replace U7 with item 1 as shown in Figure 1. Hardware Upgrade Instructions: 1. Lift U10 pin 28 from its pad. See figure Install a small piece of Kapton tape, Item 6, between the pin and the pad, See Figure Connect a length of wire, Item 4, between the C116 - C24 junction (part of W10863 rework) and the top of C38. See Figure Add two additional layers of Kapton tape, Item 6, just off the ends of the U10 pads 25 through 28 as shown. This is to insulate the traces and vias from the resistor addwork that follows. See Figure Solder one end of R204, Item 3 to U10 pin 27. See Figure Solder one end of R203, Item 3 to U10 pin 26. See Figure Connect one end of a length of wire, Item 4, between the two free ends of R203 and R204. Connect the other end to the top of C38. See Figure Connect a length of wire, Item 4, between the bottom of C38 and U10 pin 28 (the pin lifted in Step 1). See Figure Connect a length of wire, Item 4, between E7 and U10 pin 26, see Figure Secure the addwork with Adhesive RTV 3145, Item 5, at the locations encircled, see Figure Apply the appropriate conformal coating to newly installed parts as specified in the Parts List for this part. 12. Identify the unit with the procedure as described in the Identification Procedure and reassemble the unit in reverse order of disassembly or, if available, in accordance with the Maintenance Manual Assembly Procedure Rev.
