1 OCM5 Splitters and Pass-Through Modules for CSX-3 Cabinets I N S T A L L A T I O N I N S T R U C T I O N 1.0 General Product Information Splitters for the CSX-3 cabinets are purchased and installed as needed. Each splitter module is equipped with up to 32 connectorized output fibers. The splitter distribution connectors (pigtails) can be stored in the parking lot area for later use or connected immediately to the distribution ports. Pass-through modules provide the capability for a feeder cable signal to be routed directly to a distribution port, by-passing a splitter module and providing full feeder signal strength to a customer. Pass-through modules are designed to be placed alongside OCM5 splitter modules for consistent and organized cable management. Splitter Module Input Parking Lot Figure 1: OCM5 Splitter Module Kit 2.0 Kit Contents The OCM5 Splitter Module Kit consists of: Pass-through Module OCM5 splitter module with pigtails pre-installed in two parking lot rails (Figure 1) Installation instructions Splitter serial number label GPON labels for splitter module housing and pigtails The Pass-Through Module Kit consists of: Pass-through module with pigtails pre-installed in one or two parking lot rails (Figure 2) Installation instructions Pass-through serial number label Blue ID labels for pigtail identification Parking Lot Rail Figure 2: Pass-Through Module Kit 3.0 Safety Precautions DANGER: Do not look into the ends of any optical fibers. Eye damage from exposure to laser radiation may result. Do not assume the laser power is turned off or that the fiber is disconnected at the other end. 2 4.0 Splitter or Pass-Through Module Installation 4.1 Installing the Splitter or Pass-Through Module 1. To install a splitter or pass-through module, simply locate the next available slot in front of any existing splitter or pass-through modules, and slide the new module left into the slot until it clicks, indicating that it is locked in position. 2. Locate the splitter or pass-through serial number label shipped with the module. Apply that label to the splitter/ pass-through location matrix label in the appropriate module position block. Note: If the splitter cabinet has both BPON and GPON services, apply the supplied green GPON labels to the narrow face of the splitter module housing near the pigtail exit, and to the pigtails 1/2 behind the serial number labels, for those splitter modules running GPON grade service. Pass-through modules come equipped from the factory with dark blue pre-installed port ID labels. If two pass-through modules are installed per cabinet, the user should install the factory-supplied light blue labels over the dark blue labels on the second module, for easier field differentiation of housings and pigtails. If three pass-through modules are installed per cabinet, the user should install the light blue labels 1/2 behind the dark blue labels. Splitter and pass-through modules are shipped with the output pigtails pre-installed into parking lot rails. Route the rails with pigtails to the parking lot and plug into the rectangular slots. Note: Do not remove the pigtails from the parking lot rails when routing. 4. Route the input fiber(s) from the splitter or pass-through module through the inside channel as shown and down to the input port panel. Center channel

3 Ferrule dust caps are included on the connectors inside the parking lot rails as supplied by Tyco Electronics. Do not remove the dust caps until the connectors are ready to be terminated in the designated shelf adapter. Note: Route the parking lot rails to the parking lot area as instructed in the routing diagrams for the CSX-3 cabinets, which are provided in the CSX-3 Cabinet Installation Instructions and located inside the cabinet. 5. As connections are made within the CSX-3 cabinet, pigtails are removed from the parking lot and rails are emptied. Discard empty rails and move full or partially full rails to the left, as shown in the diagram at right. 4 4.2 Connecting Pigtail to Input Port 1. The input ports are located at the bottom of the hinged termination panel. CSX and 432 cabinets input panels can be configured with 24, 48, or 72 ports. CSX cabinets input panels may be two 24-port panels, two 48-port panels, or two 72-port panels. 2. To clean the input port, open the hinged dust cap and clean with locally approved cleaning methods and materials. Plug the input fiber into the cleaned input port to activate the splitter or pass-through module. Note: Always follow company-approved or industrystandard practice when cleaning connectors. 4.3 Connecting Pigtails to Output Ports 1. Remove the selected output pigtail from the parking lot rail. Remove the dust cap and clean the splitter or passthrough pigtail connector and the selected output port per locally approved practice. 2. Connect the pigtail connector to the output port. 3. Dress any pigtail slack using the routing rings below the output panel. 4.4 Removing a Splitter or Pass-through Module 1. To remove a splitter or pass-through module from the CSX-3 cabinet, press the button marked PUSH near the splitter and pass-through module storage rack, and slide the module out from the rack 5.0 Cleaning the Adapters, if Necessary If, after proper connection, the fiber exhibits higher than acceptable levels of loss, it is possible that there is dirt in the adapter connections on the back side of the termination panel. 1. To open the swing frame, press the latch labelled UNLOCK, and swing the frame outward as shown. 2. Identify the input and output ports in question.

5 3. Disconnect the input port fiber and clean the back side connector and adapter per locally approved practice. Reconnect the input port fiber. 4. Disconnect the output port fiber, clean the adapter, and reconnect. 5. Pull up on the door stop to allow the hinged termination panel to close. 6. Test the fiber to confirm proper operation. If it is still not functioning propertly, disconnect/re-clean/reconnect the input and output pigtail connectors and both adapters on the front side of the hinged termination panel. Refer to the CSX-3 cabinet installation instructions for procedures regarding closing, maintaining, and repairing the cabinet.
