3 1.0 Introduction 1.1 This instruction covers a typical installation of a 3M Compact Coarse Wave Division Multiplexer (CCWDM) Module in multiple applications. Product Number FCWDM4CH-A-NC-Kit 4CH CWDM Mux/Demux, No Connector, nm ki FCWDM4CH-A-SCA-Kit 4CH CWDM Mux/Demux, SC/APC, nm kit Kit Contents A. 3M Compact Coarse Wave Division Multiplexer (CCWDM) Module B. Alcohol Prep Wipe C. 3M Scotchmate Hook and Loop Note: V isually inspect all components. If any component is missing or appears damaged, do not install and call 3M customer service at for a replacement product. 3.0 Preparation and Installation of One and Two 3M Compact Coarse Wave Division Multiplexer (CCDWM) Modules 3.1 Locate the 3M Scotchmate Hook and Loop in the kit. 3.2 Using the supplied alcohol wipe, prepare the surfaces by cleaning with the wipe before installing the 3M Scotchmate Hook and Loop. Allow alcohol to dry on surface. Start by installing the hook in the coupling trayas shown: Hook Loop Note: Follow health, safety and environmental information. Refer to product label or Material Safety Data Sheet for the alcohol wipe. 4 3.3 Trim a piece of 3M Scotchmate Loop as needed and install on the back of the 3M Compact Coarse Wave Division Multiplexer (CCWDM) Module as shown M Compact Coarse Wave Division Multiplexer (CCWDM) Module Pigtail Routing In 3M Fiber Dome Stubbed Terminal FDST 08S 4.1 Orient the CCWDM module as shown and attach by mating the Hook and Loop. Route the pigtails exiting each side of the module as a group. See photos for suggested coiling direction. Avoid sharp bends during pigtail routing. Plug into the corresponding adapter. Note: Connecting the first and second module to the lower banks of adapters in the coupling tray makes installation of these modules easier. Coil this group clockwise Coil this group counterclockwise 4
5 4.2 Label near connector end identifies each pigtail. Use log label to ID ports and identify module. Repeat pigtail slack storage process for remaining modules. 5.0 Installation of the Third and Fourth 3M Compact Coarse Wave Division Multiplexer (CCWDM) Modules 5.1 The third and forth CCWDM modules can be installed by double stacking on top of the first two modules. Trim the 3M Scotchmate Hook and Loop pieces as needed and use to attach the modules. Route pigtails per section M Compact Coarse Wave Division Multiplexer (CCWDM) Module Removal/ Replacement 6.1 The module can be removed by first removing the stored pigtail slack of all modules located above the module to be removed. Carefully remove the pigtail slack layer by layer as needed to gain access to the module to be replaced. Recommended method is to start by completely removing the slack of the uppermost three fibers of the same coiling direction. Then completely remove the slack of the next layer of three fibers. Repeat this process until you can access the module to be replaced. Note that this step is much easier IF the steps outlined in section 4.0 were followed during installation. DO NOT REMOVE ALL OF THE SLACK AT ONE TIME. 5
6 6.2 Once all of the slack is uncoiled, modules can be detached and set aside to gain access to the module to be replaced. 6.3 Locate the module to be replaced and unplug the connectors. Remove and replace the module. Coil slack per section 4.0 and plug in connectors. Re-coil and store the slack for each remaining module separately. 7.0 Installation of 3M Compact Coarse Wave Division Multiplexer (CCDWM) Modules into 3M Fiber Splice Organizer Tray Locate the 3M Scotchmate Hook and Loop in the kit. Hook Loop 7.2 Using the supplied alcohol wipe clean the surface of the tray where the hook will be placed. Trim the hook to fit and then peel off the backing and install into tray as shown. Place the hook approximately 1 in. (25 mm) from the edge of the tray. Note: Follow health, safety and environmental information. Refer to the product label or Material Safety Data Sheet for the alcohol wipe. 6
7 7.3 Trim a piece of 3M Scotchmate Loop as needed and install on the back of 3M Compact Coarse Wave Division Multiplexer (CCWDM) Module as shown. 7.4 Place the CCDWM module on top of the hook that was installed previously on the tray as shown. 7.5 Route fiber and splice into insert per company practice. 8.0 Installation of 3M Compact Coarse Wave Division Multiplexer (CCDWM) Modules into 3M Fiber Splice Organizer Tray Locate the 3M Scotchmate Hook and Loop in the kit. Hook Loop 8.2 Using the supplied alcohol wipe clean the surface of the tray where the hook will be placed. Trim the hook to fit and then peel off the backing and install into tray as shown. Place the hook approximately 1/2 in. (13 mm) from the edge of the tray. Note: Follow health, safety and environmental information. Refer to the product label or Material Safety Data Sheet for the alcohol wipe. 7
8 8.3 Trim a piece of 3M Scotchmate Loop as needed and install on the back of 3M Compact Coarse Wave Division Multiplexer (CCWDM) Module as shown. 8.4 Place the CCDWM module on top of the hook that was installed previously on the tray as shown. 8.5 Route fiber and splice into insert per company practice. 9.0 Installation of 3M Compact Coarse Wave Division Multiplexer (CCDWM) Modules into 3M Fiber Splice Organizer Tray Locate the 3M Scotchmate Hook and Loop in the kit. Hook Loop 9.2 Using the supplied alcohol wipe clean the surface of the tray where the hook will be placed. Trim the hook to fit and then peel off the backing and install into tray as shown. Place the hook in the first splice insert slot located closest to the tray pivot. Note: Follow health, safety and environmental information. Refer to the product label or Material Safety Data Sheet for the alcohol wipe. 8
9 9.3 Trim a piece of 3M Scotchmate Loop as needed and install on the back of 3M Compact Coarse Wave Division Multiplexer (CCWDM) Module as shown. 9.4 Place the CCDWM module on top of the hook that was installed previously on the tray as shown. 9.5 Route fiber and splice into insert per company practice. 9
