3 1 Introduction The interface module is the extension to the calibratable length measuring device ME 40.xx. It is used in winding and cutting-off lines for storing the cutting length. The stored data on the interface module are conserved for lifetime. 1.1 System The system consists of the Kabelmat length counter ME 40.xx and the interface module IM-ME 40. The connection is made through a RS 485 interface (two-wire connection). At the counter the connection area is covered with a plastic panel to avoid unauthorised access and it is sealed. 4 1.2 Retraceability of cutting lengths The counter provides for a label printer an additional serial interface (only data output possible). With each cutting signal at the IM-ME 40, the printer issues an adhesive label for retracing the necessary data. As an alternative these data are output at the serial interface (D-SUB 9) of the IM-ME 40 for the electronic data processing. Format: Mess-ID, date, hour, counter ID, measured value in mm 0010, ,18:08:22, , <CRLF> Caution! For securing the retraceability the line operator is obliged to fix these information on the coiled ring or to indicate them on the customer receipts. 1.3 Performance of the Interface module (IM) The manufacturer of the line must ensure that there is no cable movement during the readout of the cutting length in order to avoid a falsified length value. During storing the ready signal of the IM-ME 40 is removed. When an external start signal appears, the IM reads the present counter reading of the ME 40.xx and transfers this value to a mass storage device by adding the current hour, the actual measuring ID and the counter ID. All cuts are stored in one day in a file 00:00:00 23:59:59 hour. The file name contains the date of the stored data. Summer and winter time are automatically taken into account. The USB flash drives provided for with a capacity of 2GB allow the storage of 8700 data sets / day over a period of 10 years. Revision: 1.0 Date

5 2 Hardware environment 2.1 Interface description RS232: Data exchange with a higher-level PC.. The PC transfers the cutting lengths and number of items to the IM ME 40 and can read out the current cutting length. 2.2 Type of the connectable counters The software is designed for the Kabelmat counters. Voltage Resolution ME /230V cm ME /230V mm ME V cm ME V mm 2.3 Connectable additional devices Standard PC with a user programme which supports the instruction set of the ME 40.xx and the RS232 interface and for reading out the stored values the software KABELMAT.EXE. Serial label printer at the counter ME 40.xx. 2.4 Date and time The built-in real-time clock has a long running accuracy and a buffer battery for a service life of 10 years. The real-time clock is set when commissioning the line for the first time through the Kabelmat software on a connected PC. A later change of the date is not possible any more. The operator checks the long running accuracy and carries out corrections. The operator ascertains a deviation of the time of day on the printed labels compared with the current time of day. This deviation may be maximum 5 minutes. During the time of a.m. and a.m. (IM-ME 40 time) the operator can synchronize the time exactly at a.m. by pressing the push-button in the switch cabinet for at least 3 seconds. This push-button is connected to the 2 nd control input (Syc) of the IM-ME 40 and allows the setting of the IM-ME 40 time to a.m. After this, this function is locked until the next change of the date. 8 3 Kabelmat software The Kabelmat software allows access, only reading, to the stored value in the IM ME 40 with the help of the cutting data indicated on the label on the ring resp. in the despatch documents. The software Kabelmat.exe is not installed in the Window system and, therefore, can be started from any data carrier. 3.1 Functional description On starting the programme Kabelmat.exe the start screen appears. 9 3.1.1 Selection screen The display of date / time in the field IM-ME 40 confirms the communication between PC and the connected interface module. At the same time the version data are read-out from the IM ME 40 and are displayed in the field Version IM ME 40. The selection buttons read value and read file are activated. With the push-button MD5 Checksum, the check sum as per the MD5-biological rhythm is created by the file KABELMAT.EXE and is displayed in the subjacent field. This check sum is deposited in the IM and is checked when starting the programme. Only in case of parity the IM communicates with the software. Revision: 1.0 Date

10 3.1.2 Read-out of values In the field Mess-ID-Nr. the cutting value to be displayed in entered under date, the corresponding production date. Each input is confirmed with push-button Enter. The next input field is automatically started. After the last entry, the scan is started by operating push-button Transfer. 11 3.1.3 Reading the file For scanning the file, the filing path must be determined at first. As a suggestion the path is indicated from which the Kabelmat.exe was called up. The requested date is entered in field date. The complete filing path is displayed in the line path / file. With push-button transfer the line-by-line read-out of the stored inputs is started.
