Purpose of the Research The market of copier and printer made a v-shaped recovery in 2010 despite a large decline of shipment of office equipment. Both color and monochrome application volume have recovered to a large extent. However more users are becoming accustomed to control their output volume and refrain from printing unnecessary documents. Therefore, the volume growth of consumables is not as large as of hardware. Regarding office hardware, it is expected to grow in the emerging countries such as China, India and Brazil. Mostly A4 printers and all-in-one printers will be shipped. This indicates that smaller sized drums like 24φ and 30φ drums will increase. From environmental point of view, more long life photoconductors with an applied over coat layer will be used so that the drum becomes a part, not a consumable. As a result, the shipment volume of drums is not expected to grow. While Japanese drum manufacturers were suffering from the recession, Chinese and Korean manufacturers kept increasing the production and enlarged the market for third-party products in Finally OEM manufacturers were ready to catch up. While there is a great need for low cost products, competition in the market has been intensifying. If printers made in China will come to market in the near future, a Chinese national standard will apply to exported parts and this may make the situation more difficult for OEM drum manufacturers.
