3 Explanations to the cover graphics 1 Configuration and parameter adjustment tool Engineering, planning or adjustment instruments which can be typically realised in the PC/notebook with appropriate software. Complex field instruments can be also configured completely via the Fieldbus from the control room by means of configuration/ parameter adjustment tools. 2 VVO VVO is an adjustment program for Windows with graphic adjustment surface for comfortable configuration and parameter adjustment of VEGA instruments. VVO can adjust all VEGA instruments. However, it is unimportant where VVO is used: whether directly on the sensor, on the HART cable, on the signal conditioning instrument, via Profibus DP, via Ethernet or via telephone. 3 PACTware TM PACTware TM is a manufacturer and fieldbus independent software for adjustment of fieldbus instruments. PACTware TM is based on the FDT technology 1). This technology specifies the data exchange between system level or control level and the field instruments by means of DTM (see 4). 4 Device Type Manager (DTM) As the printer driver in the Office world, the field instrument in the FDT world provides its own driver including adjustment surface. This driver is called Device Type Manager, briefly DTM. It composes all data and functions of the field instrument. A DTM can cover an instrument type or a complete instrument family. Basis is the FDT technology (see 3). 5 AMS, SMARTVISION, PDM Adjustment tools of major suppliers of PLC or control systems. VEGA sensors are implemented in these tools by means of (E)DD or DTM (see 4 + 6). 6 DD/EDD (E)DD (Electronic Device Description) are languages for instrument descriptions. An (E)DD browser interprets the (E)DD and generates an adjustment surface for the user. 7 External indicating and adjustment unit PLICSCOM Pluggable module for VEGA sensors. Suitable for display of measured values and sensor adjustment. Suitable for wall and rail mounting. 8 Visual VEGA Visual VEGA is a visualisation program for VEGA instruments for indication and storing of measured values such as levels, process pressures, temperatures etc. The presentation of the actual measured values is made as bar graph, in the photographed plant picture or in tabular form. Up to four switching thresholds can be created per measurement loop. When a threshold value is reached, a message is triggered. These messages are displayed in lists, recorded and printed upon request. Visualisation, tank management and data logging are essential parts of the program. The connection to the instruments is made via an RS232 connection or via an Ethernet TCP/IP network. Remote enquiry via telephone network A special strength is the described remote enquiry via telephone and GSM network which Visual VEGA can carry out automatically and worldwide. 9 Network operation HTML Due to the presentation in HTML format many users can access in an intranet to the measured values. If corresponding structures are available, access via internet will be also possible. WEB pages in HTML format With all measured value updates the actual measured values will be saved in HTML format. The measured values can be called up with all standard browsers. 10 Visual VEGA can provide measured values or messages (e.g. when a threshold value is exceeded) or reaching of certain min. or max. levels also via . This is possible in a network with mail server as well as with direct internet access with an appropriate provider. 1) Field Device Tool (FDT) is the name for an interface definition AL - 219

4 11 Export function Due to the export function of Visual VEGA, it is possible to transfer measured values to other programs (e.g. such as Excel). Certain functions in Excel enable also direct access to VEGACOM Profibus DP Master class 1 A DP Master class 1 (DPM1) is typically a PLC exchanging cyclically information (e.g. measured values and status information) with decentralised stations (DP or PA slaves), e.g. VEGA sensors. 13 Profibus DP Master class 2 DP Master class 2 instruments (DPM2) are engineering, planning or adjustment instruments. This is typically a PC/Notebook with an appropriate software (e.g. VVO or PACTware TM, see 2 + 3). 14 GSD (instrument master file) Is used for description of the Profibus-Slaves (Profibus) especially in relation to communication parameters (data, signal mode, number of channels, ). 15 PC-Profibus card With the PC module cards with ISA/PCI interface or PCMCIA interface for laptops, a Profibus master is generated on a standard PC/Notebook. Typically used as DP master class 2 for engineering, planning or adjustment of field instruments (see 13). 17 Ethernet card Provides the connection of a PC/Notebook to the Ethernet. Often used in the Office world. 18 HUB and Switch A HUB is a switching station or distributor between network segments and final instruments. In respect to the functionality, a HUB can be compared with a repeater. Signals are refreshed and transferred to all ports. A Switch is an intelligent distributor station distributing a received data package only to that port to which the target station is connected. The communication among the participants or complete subnetworks is independent. Possible collisions are restricted to individual connections. Due to this, real-time capability can be achieved. 19 Gateway Ethernet/Profibus The connection or coupling of Ethernet and Profibus DP is realised with a Gateway. 20 RS232/USB interface Connection possibility of the modem via RS232 or USB interface to the PC/Notebook. 16 Ethernet Mainly in the Office world a wide-spread bus system.
