3 IEA Greenhouse Gas R&D Programme A collaborative research programme founded in 1991 Main role: Provide members with definitive information on the role that technology can play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. IEA GHG Implementing Agreement (IA) - Participants contribute to a common fund to finance activities. Funding ~2 million US$/year.

5 IEA GHG Phases 1-4 First 4 phases completed in th phase runs until Prepared >100 studies covering carbon capture and storage (CCS), other mitigation technologies, and alternative energy carriers. Established CCS as a mitigation option capable of major reductions in the emission of CO 2 to atmosphere.

6 Three main activities: IEA GHG Phase 5 Generate technology and market information Confidence building Information dissemination Aimed at answering: How do mitigation options compare? Can CCS be done safely and legally? What needs to be done to introduce CCS and be confident it will be successful?

16 Proceedings of network meetings restricted to participants. In demonstration project consortia IEAGHG advocates participant agreement to control release or sharing of information and results Protection of IP of individual participants in consortia or any other IEAGHG supported activity is ultimately individual responsibility of participant. (E.g capture solvents, capture processes, downhole logging)
