1 Meter Reading Technology Current Itron Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) technology was installed in W system no longer in production and supported Limited reads per day No customer portal for monitoring usage Fixed-point network only allows reads to be collected via radios; dead spots; not compatible with drive-by collector AMR vs AMI Automatic Meter Reading vs Advanced Metering Infrastructure AMI is next generation of metering technology Allows flexibility for metering (fixed base, drive by, etc.) Two-way communication between meter and billing office Enables customer to manage their usage through website portal and alerts Handout 1
