17 Metering components for German market Defined by law imsys: Smart Meter Gateway (SMGw) is the key component for billing, communication and security Meter only acts a sensor that provides the raw data SMGw builds derived billing data from the data from the sensor (different tariff use cases) Consortium FNN (forum network and network operation) defined specification for the SMGw as well for the meter (Basic Meter ) Basic Meter is new technique and still low quantities in the field Before the Basic Meter the EDL meter was the Smart meter for Germany Different utilities have different position regarding mme Most are pushing the Basic Meter as optimum solution or Only trying to fulfill the obligations from law 17
