1 ehealth for Voice Tech Note: Guide to the Installation of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 For Use With ehealth for Voice This installation guide describes the process of installing Microsoft SQL Server 2000 on a PC in order to prepare it for the installation of an ehealth for Voice database. These steps describe a typical installation such as would be used by individuals installing Microsoft SQL Server 2000 for the first time in order to support ehealth for Voice. It is not intended as a general reference to any Microsoft SQL Server product. For detailed instructions for the installation and operation of Microsoft SQL Server 2000, consult your Microsoft documentation. Before embarking on this process, please make sure that your computer meets the Microsoft SQL Server system minimum requirements. The table at right lists the MS SQL Server 2000 installation configuration settings used in this guide. Please be aware that if you have different configuration you might have to follow slightly different steps. Also note that you will probably have your own method for the licensing of Microsoft SQL Server Insert the MS SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition CD-ROM in the DVD/CD- ROM drive of your computer. If Autorun is enabled, the installation menu will appear after a few moments. If the menu does not appear, use Windows Explorer to browse the CD and locate the file Named Autorun.exe and doubleclick its icon to bring up the menu. 2. Click SQL Server 2000 Components. 2 SQL Server Installation Guide 2 3. Click Install Database Server. 4. Click Next. 5. Select the Local Computer option and click Next.

3 SQL Server Installation Guide 3 6. Select the Create a new instance of SQL Server, or install Client Tools option and click Next. 7. Enter the Name of the person and company to whom the software is licensed. Company is optional and may be left blank. Press Next. 8. Read the software license agreement and, if you concur, click Yes to demonstrate your acceptance of the agreement.

4 SQL Server Installation Guide 4 9. Select the Server and Client Tools option and click Next. 10. Make sure that the Default box is checked in the Instance Name dialog and click Next. 11. Select the Typical option for setup preference. Make a note about the Destination Folder for both the Program Files and Data Files. Double check that your computer meets the minimum system requirement. If so, click Next.

5 SQL Server Installation Guide Select Use the same account for each service. Auto Start SQL Server Service option. For the Service Settings, select Use the Local System account. Click Next. 13. Select Mixed Mode (Windows Authentication and SQL Server Authentication). Add a new password for the sa login. Type the password both in the Enter password: and in the Confirm password: text fields. The sa (System Administrator) account is a built in SQL Server account for top level administration. The sa password will be needed during the primary installation of ehealth for Voice in order to create the database. Click Next once the password is entered and you have recorded it somewhwere for future use. 14. Click Next to start the copying files process.

6 SQL Server Installation Guide Select the appropriate licensing mode according to the license purchased with your SQL Server software. If you are using Per You must enter the number of devices (for per seat licensing) or processors (processor licensing) for which the software is licensed. Click Continue. 16. The copying of and files and installation of the software on the computer will take fat least several minutes, depending on your system. 17. When the setup process has completed, click Finish.

7 SQL Server Installation Guide Restart the computer and log on. Icon indicating that SQL Server is running You should see the MS SQL Server icon in the system tray on your Taskbar. This indicates that the installation was successful. The SQL Server Service Manager The green arrow on the SQL in the system tray indicates that SQL server is running. If the icon displays with a red square instead of the green arrow, SQL server is not running. Double-clicking the icon will open the SQL Server Service Manager which can be used to stop, pause, or start the SQL Server and SQL Agent services. If the SQL icon does not appear in the system tray, Service Manager may be accessed from the Microsoft SQL Server group under Programs on the Start menu. The service manager actually provides a control for both the SQL Server service, required to make the database available to any application, and the SQL Agent service which must be running if any automated database maintenance functions are to be run. For normal operation of ehealth for Voice, both these services should be running on the PC containing the database. Note that the SQL Server Service Manager has a checkbox labeled Auto-start service when OS starts. If this box is checked, the displayed service will start automatically when the PC is started. This is the preferred mode of operation for ehealth for Voice. It is imperative that the SQL Server service is running at all times for the program to access the database.
