2 Overview ProQuest is actively working on a number of projects (Product Upgrades, Platform Migrations, Usage Reporting) that will enhance overall ProQuest customer experience. Some of these projects may result in changes to how you compile and review usage statistics. The following slide help provide clarity around how to effectively acquire and evaluate usage statistics. 2

3 Product Upgrade Overview ProQuest has been enhancing numerous products to deliver more full text, improved research outcomes, better value and less administration for libraries. Customers are now able to enjoy improvements in many of our databases. An upgraded, streamlined product portfolio is available for new subscriptions. Customers see now clear, consistent, product choices, making it easier to manage and work with our products. Researchers also see their search results expanded to relevant content in adjacent disciplines. 3

4 How Product Upgrades Affect Usage Database Name Changes We have streamlined our products which has resulted in new naming conventions for several databases. You will see the new database names in all retrospective usage. Examples: International Index to Music Periodicals (IIMP) Music Periodicals Database Arts & Humanities Full Text Arts & Humanities Database ProQuest Psychology Journals ProQuest Psychology Database ABI/INFORM Complete ABI/INFORM Collection Asian Newsstand Asian Newsstream 4

6 How Product Upgrades Affect Usage ProQuest Central Changes: ProQuest Central has now 39 databases, so you will see new and more databases in your 2016 usage. You will see 2 versions of ProQuest Central in the 2016 usage, the old one, which goes up to May, and the new one, that goes from June onwards. You will need to add up both usage stats. Example: 6

9 What other changes may I expect? Specific Databases Changes In early 2016, we streamlined usage for some databases that we used to appear broken down into subject specific content sets (i.e. Business, Health & Medicine, History...) You will see this in both 2016 and retrospective ProQuest proprietary usage You will still see this in 2016 COUNTER usage but still see the subject thematic usage for these products in previous usage Examples: ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Research Library Canadian Business & Current Affairs Database (CBCA) Career & Technical Education Database 9

13 Platform Migrations If you have migrated any of the following products to their upgraded platforms, please note that: Usage for the old platforms will remain available To calculate the total usage for a particular product for the whole year, add up the usage from the old and the new platform(s). Examples: EBL / ebrary platforms Ebook Central platform Chadwyck-Healey platform ProQuest platform Film products (FIAF International Index to Film Periodicals Database, AFI Catalog, Film Index International) House of Commons Parliamentary Papers (migrated to the ProQuest Government platform) Policy File Colonial State Papers 13

14 Tips & Recommendations With this process, you may see 2 different names for the same database on your usage report(s). You will need to add up usage for both. We always advise our customers to download usage of each year separately, example: Jan Dec 2014, then Jan 2015 Dec 2015 For Chadwyck-Healey products that were migrated to the ProQuest platforms, you will retrieve usage from ProQuest Administrator Module (PAM) from the date you migrated. For historical usage, you will still refer to the Chadwyck-Healey platform. EBL migrated customers will see their usage transferred into the new LibCentral platform. ebrary migrated customers will be able to access retrospective usage from the new LibCentral platform. 14

15 The User Experience & its Impact on Usage The ProQuest platform is optimized to provide the best end user experience, which does impact usage in some ways. For example, when clicking on a document title on the list of results (by far the most popular link on that page), we take the user to the best available format, which is usually the full text. We do not take the user to the metadata record first before they can see the complete document, which is why our might show lower Record Views in the Database 1 report than other providers. 15
