1 7 th grade Business and Computer Science 1 Word Project 2 Formatting an MLA Style Paper In this project, you will create a 2-page MLA style research paper. Follow the steps below to create the document. 1. Open a new, blank Word document. 2. Save the document as Biometrics Paper. 3. If necessary display non-printing symbols by pressing the Show/Hide button on the Home Ribbon. 4. Click the Line Spacing button on the Home Ribbon. Then click on Line Spacing options. Use the images below to help you. 5. When the Line Spacing Options dialog box appears, change your settings to match the image on the next page. Spacing Before and After should BOTH be 0 (zero) and Line Spacing should be Double. **Please carefully check and double check to make sure these settings are correct**
2 7 th grade Business and Computer Science 2 6. Change the font to Times New Roman, size One the first line of your document, type your First and Last Name. Then press Enter once. 8. Type Ms. Rock then press Enter once 9. Type Business and Computer Science then press Enter once 10. Type today s date in the format as shown January 19, 2016 then press Enter once 11. Change your alignment to center (CTRL + E) and type the title of the paper, Biometrics 12. Press Enter once
3 7 th grade Business and Computer Science Change your alignment back to left and key the first paragraph as seen in the image below. Make sure you indent (press TAB) the first line of the paragraph. Also, be sure your name and other information match the image below. 14. After typing the first paragraph, press Enter once. Save your changes. 15. Key the second and third paragraphs as seen on the next page. Be sure to indent the first line of each one.
4 7 th grade Business and Computer Science Save your changes. 17. Be sure the insertion point is positioned after the last period of the 3 rd paragraph. 18. Now, press CTRL + Enter to insert a page break. A page break is a code that tells the printing device where to end the current page and begin the next. After the page break is inserted into the document, a symbol indicating the page break or "Page Break" is shown, and the cursor is placed on the next page. You should see the Page Break as shown on the next page.
5 7 th grade Business and Computer Science Your insertion point should be at the top of page 2 as seen above. 20. Center align your text then type Works Cited 21. Press Enter once and change your alignment back to left. 22. Type the three sources as seen below. Pay attention to the non-printing characters and only press Enter where indicated ( ). Use italics as seen in the image. Save changes.
6 7 th grade Business and Computer Science You will now add a hanging indent to your three sources. 24. Select all the text for the three sources (From Carter to 62.) 25. Click the Line Spacing button on the Home Ribbon. 26. Click Line Spacing Options. 27. For Indentation, under Special, choose Hanging. See image below. Click OK then Save changes.
7 7 th grade Business and Computer Science If your Works Cited page does not look like the image below, call your instructor over for help. 29. You will now add automatic page numbers to your document. 30. Click on the Insert Ribbon. 31. Click on Page Numbers on the right side of the ribbon 32. Choose Top of Page and then choose Plain Number 3 so that page numbers will be right aligned. See image on next page.
8 7 th grade Business and Computer Science You should now see a 2 on the second page. 34. Click before the number 2 and type your Last Name followed by a space. Change the font of your last name and page number to Times New Roman, size 12. See image below.
9 7 th grade Business and Computer Science Double click anywhere BELOW the dotted line to close the Header. Save changes. 36. Run spell check (F7) and proofread for errors. Your finished document should look like the images below. Turn in for grading.
10 7 th grade Business and Computer Science 10 Word Project 2, Lab 1 Using the knowledge and skills gained in the first assignment, create the MLA style paper below. Be sure to use the same formatting for line spacing, font, font size, alignment, indents, and page numbers that you used in the last assignment. Do not forget to key your name and other information on the first 4 lines of the document. Save the file as Triangulation Paper. The title of this paper is Can You Find Me Now? as seen in the sample below. Use the sources on the next page for your Works Cited page for the Triangular Paper. Do NOT PRESS ENTER in the middle of each source!

The title of this paper is Farming on a Whole New Level as seen in the sample below. Use the sources on the next page for your Works Cited page for the Agriculture Paper. Do NOT PRESS ENTER in the middle of each source!
