Information Literacy II EN(IL2) Course LaTeX Presentation Skills
Course evaluation questionnaire Course Number: LAS.I Course Title: Information Literacy II EN(IL2) The questionnaire is anonymous. It will not affect your course grades. Feedback will be used to improve the content and instruction of this course.
Summary of the previous lecture LaTeX Latex documents classes. A typical structure of an academic article. Title, author name, date, absract, title page. Sections and subsections.
Summary of the previous lecture (cont.) LaTeX Lists. Tables. Cross-references. Importing graphics and figures. Bibliography.
Arranging the titlepage Open the file report.tex in TeXShop Delete the commands \title, \author, \date, \maketitle Add the following: \begin{titlepage} \centering \par % Adding a new paragraph, same as empty line Assignment 4 \end{titlepage} Typeset (Cmd+T)
Text size, shape and spacing Revise Assignment 4 to {\huge Assignment 4} Revise to {\huge\scshape Assignment 4} \vspace{3cm} {\huge\scshape Assignment 4} It did not work because the vertical space is discarded in the beginning of a page. Use the variant \vspace* instead: \vspace*{3cm} {\huge\scshape Assignment 4}
Text size, shape and spacing (cont.) Refer to Wikibook LaTeX/Fonts, Section 6.2 "Sizing text" for the specific commands and corresponding font sizes. An arbitrary font size can be set using the fix-cm package: Add \usepackage{fix-cm} to the preamble. {\fontsize{1cm}{1.2cm}\selectfont Cryptography and Internet Security} Revise to \vspace{10mm} {\bfseries\fontsize{1cm}{1.2cm}\selectfont Cryptography and Internet Security}
Text spacing Add \usepackage{setspacing} to the preabmble. Revise to: \vspace{10mm} \begin{doublespace} \bfseries\fontsize{1cm}{1.2cm}\selectfont Cryptography and Internet Security \end{doublespace} Note that internal {} are now removed. Typeset and observe that the double spacing seems too large.
Text spacing (cont.) Revise to: \vspace{10mm} \begin{spacing}{1.2} \bfseries\fontsize{1cm}{1.2cm}\selectfont Cryptography\\and Internet Security \end{spacing}
Text font Revise to: \vspace{10mm} \begin{spacing}{1.2} \bfseries\fontfamily{ptm}\fontsize{1cm}{1.2cm}\selectfont Cryptography\\and Internet Security \end{spacing}
Text spacing (cont.) Spacing can also be set as a parameter to the new line command "\\[length]": Revise to: \vspace{10mm} {\bfseries\fontfamily{ptm}\fontsize{1cm}{1.2cm}\selectfont Cryptography\\[12pt]and Internet Security}
Finishing the title page Add the following (after the above command and before \end{titlepage}): \vspace{3cm} {\LARGE Your NAME} \vspace{0.5cm} {\Large 17B00000}
Finishing the title page (cont.) Add the following (after the above command and before \end{titlepage}): \vfill {\large \today}
Numbering Add to the preamble: \numberwithin{table}{section} Typeset the document. Revise to: \numberwithin{table}{subsection} Typeset the document. The first argument is the name of an environment: table, figure, equation, etc.
