4 InDesign How to set up the document: The next slides are snapshots of how to set up a document using InDesign The assets and software will be available in the computer lab. 5 InDesign How to set up the document: The New Document dialog box is the key to proper output: 63 InDesign New Document Dialog Box details: Enter the desired trim size and page orientation Enter the desired margins here Enter the desired bleed here (usually.125 in) Note: you may have to twirl this dialog box open. Facing Pages is for documents that are bound (multi- page documents such as books, magazines, etc.) Uncheck this for one- page flyers, business cards, posters, etc

7 Control Panel InDesign Workspace details (refer to handout) Toolbox Panels 67 Text Frames: Select the Type tool and then drag to define the width and height of a new text frame. Note the handles, they allow you to change the size of the text frame

9 Graphic Frames: to place a graphic: File > Place the cursor will show a preview of the graphic and you can drag the cursor to the desired size. 71 Graphic Frames have handles just like text frames

10 Graphic Frames Increase or decrease the size of the graphic and the graphic frame by dragging one of the handles and holding down Control + shift (or Command + shift for Mac) 73 Working in Normal view (this is the best way to work in InDesign) 74 37

19 How to impose 2- up Create a new InDesign document to place the PDF Letter- size with landscape orientation 91 File > Place the PDF into the new document Check the box to Show Import Options to place the PDF with crop marks and bleeds (see next slide) 92 46
