1 Flixoft Barcode Scanner & FileMaker GO Integration 6/28/2013 Introduction This document outlines the steps necessary to add support for the Flixoft ios barcode scanner accessory to your FileMaker Pro database. With the addition of the Flixoft external barcode scanner, it is now possible to add high speed, professional grade bar code scanning to your FileMaker product when combining the FileMaker GO application on an Apple iphone, ipod, ipad. Additionally, these same procedures can be used to enable barcode scanning via camera enabled idevices, albeit at a much slower scan rate. A basic overview of the steps involved are as follows; 1.) Modify the layout of your FileMaker file/database to include a custom Scan button. 2.) Add custom Flixoft URI scheme script to the custom Scan button to control the external Flixoft barcode scanner from the FileMaker Go ios app. 3.) Add additional custom script actions to call and cease the scan button script 4.) Transfer modified FileMaker file database to target ios device and access through FileMaker Go

3 Configuring FileMaker file 1. Open FileMaker Starter Solution: Business - People & Assets Inventory

4 2. Create a button that will call/launch the Browscan app in the background: Edit Product Details iphone layout. Add Scan button next to Bar Code field.

7 Right Click on Scan button, select Button Setup.. Select Open URL followed by Specify button and paste the following script in the URL field: "browscan://scan_barcode?return_url=" & GetAsURLEncoded ( "fmp://~/" & GetAsURLEncoded (Get ( FileName )) & ".fmp12?script=insert_barcode&param=" ) & "&cancel_url=" & GetAsURLEncoded ( "fmp://~/" & GetAsURLEncoded (Get ( FileName )) & ".fmp12?script=cancel_barcode" )

9 Edit the button text and font properties to your likeing. Alternatively you can create script open_scanner with Open URL command and same script text above, and assign it to button or any other control. 4. Create 2 callback scripts From FileMaker menu Scripts, Manage Scripts, New; a.) insert_barcode b.) cancel_barcode

15 Create cancel_barcde script (no code needed). Save layout and Exit Layout Transfering FIleMaker file to FileMaker Go App Option 1: file to ios device and save. Option 2: Via itunes File Sharing: Option 3: Use FileMaker Pro Sharing -> FileMaker Network.. Option 4: DropBox

16 Testing 1. Launch FileMaker Go app and Open File Browser... -> Files on Drive select Inventory file. 2. Select any record and go to Bar Code field and hit Scan button. 3. The FileMake Go will launch Browscan app (has to be installed on device)

17 3. After scanning barcode user will be automatically returned back to FileMaker Go and paste scanned barcode into Bar Code field:
