3 2. SUBTITLING PROCESS FOR BRIGHTCOVE USING dotsub 2.1. GENERAL PROCESS STEP TOOL DESCRIPTION RESPONSIBLE NOTES Subtitle Translation dotsub Using the Transcribe Subtitle Translation Review Time Code dotsub dotsub Using the Transcribe Using the Transcribe function SRT Export dotsub Click Export Transcription Welocalize Welocalize will finish the translation on dotsub. When choosing the language for the video, English should be the default option, except for heil. Welocalize will provide the original SRT file and the video to translation team and have them upload to dotsub NetApp Reviewer The English video and the SRT file will also be available on Welocalize FTP. Character limit will be provided when files are handed off to reviewers. Steps are as follow: o Go to dotsub o Login with the credential: wltrans/wltrans o Go to My Videos o Find the video for your locale o Click the video o Click Transcribe Video o You should see the SRT there for your editing o Save the string by clicking the check mark NetApp Reviewer Please adjust the time code accordingly The transcript should not be marked complete. Once it s marked complete, no further edits will be allowed in dotsub. A new video along with the SRTs will need re uploaded. NetApp Reviewer The file name will have a suffix eng since the language is set as English. Please change the language code for the corresponding locale. 4 STEP TOOL DESCRIPTION RESPONSIBLE NOTES Line Breaks Final Review Subtitle Edit VLC Media Player + Any text Editor There s a function in Subtitle Edit that allows line breaks adjustment based on the character count NetApp Reviewer The function doesn t support APAC locales and heil. For APAC locales, please go into each line in Subtitle Edit to adjust the line breaks. Steps are as follow (except APAC and heil): o Click File and locate the exported localized SRT. o Click Option, Setting. o Enter the character count limit per line in Subtitle max. length and click OK. o Click Tools, Fix common errors o Uncheck all items, except Break long lines and click Next. o Click Select all, Apply selected fixes, OK. o Now you see the long strings with line breaks. NetApp Reviewer This review will be done in the actual VLC Media Player. How to play the subtitles? o Please put the SRT file and the video in the same folder. o You can also do the following: Play the video Click Video, Subtitles Track, Open File Locate the SRT file Click Open Fonts: o Roman Locales: Please choose Arial MS Unicode o Non Roman Locales: Please choose Arial MS Unicode How to change the fonts: o Click Tools, Preference o Choose Subtitles & OSD o Under Display Settings, choose corresponding fonts in the Font field. There will be some fixes need to be done since the exported SRT file may not be as perfect as expected. This may need to be done by Welocalize team since we need to revert the text direction manually to make the subtitles visually correct on the screen. NetApp Reviewer This review will be done in the actual VLC Media Player. Welocalize Welocalize upload the video to dotsub. Welocalize copy and paste the reviewed transcript to the corresponding subtitles. Welocalize export the SRT NetApp Reviewer Play the video with the dede SRT. The line breaks in this version of SRT are not the correct version. NetApp Reviewer If there are changes needed, reviewer apply the changes in dotsub until all changes (linguistic and timecode) are made. NetApp Reviewer Export the SRT with all changes applied. The file name will have a suffix eng since the language is set as English. Please change the language code for the corresponding locale.
