1 How to use the Reporter software troubleshooter Reporter software trouble shooter main features 1. Uninstalls SQL Server 2005 Express edition in Windows 64 bit machines. Uninstallation is required only in 64 bit machines as upgrade is not possible from SQL Server bit to SQL Server bit. 2. Once the troubleshooter is installed (SQL Server 2005 Uninstallation occurs as pre-requisite of troubleshooter), it shows few status of the current system and components which are mandatory for running reporter software. 3. Below are the mandatory checks done of the reporter machine by the troubleshooter. (i) Checks whether the logged in Windows user has Administrative privilege or not. (ii) Windows OS Version Just to inform the user about Version including BIT (32/64 bit). (iii) SQL Server is installed or not status If installed it lists down the version number and other factors of SQL Server. (iv) In many cases we have seen without the knowledge of the user SQL Server database service gets stopped. It may be because of service settings. Trouble shooter checks it and shows the SQL Server DB service running status. If not started, by selecting a sport or all sports option and clicking on clean out data button clears the redundant DB and also starts the SQL Server DB. (v) ARIAL UNICODE font is a must to get the designs of the form and controls intact in all applications. By default ARIAL UNICODE is not installed when Windows OS is installed. We have an option to download the same from STATS help page. Another option of download is kept in this trouble shooter with a compressed form of font. Size will be approximately 10MB reduced and user needs to un-compress and copy the Font file (TTF) to Windows\Fonts directory. (vi) Option is provided to change the User Access Control settings. (UAC). Same feature is available in control panel but many of them don t know how to enable or disable and what it does. This windows feature mainly checks the security of running any executable in the system and asks for confirmation on running each time with a prompt. Disabling these settings will stop the prompt before running any file and in OS like VISTA it runs the executable with Run as Administrator privilege. (vii) In many situations, user gets a SQL Server error or database creation issue before the application allows the user to login. It can be due to a security block in the database folder or a major change in the Database creation script. If the user runs the application after a long gap where the application might have undergone quite a few new versions. We usually ask the user to delete the database folder and run the application again. Troubleshooter will take care of this error. User needs to select the sport he/she wants to install or run and Click on Clean out local data. Then Run / Install the required application again. Page 1 of 13

2 Below mentioned are the different screenshots for the above mentioned features. Uninstallation of SQL Server 2005 Uninstallation of SQL Server 2005 is needed only if your system has 64bit OS. Ie. Windows Vista/7 64bit OS. Otherwise if it is 32 bit OS it automatically upgrades the SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server While installing reporter software (only one time required, after SQL Server 2008 roll out) it tries to install SQL Server 2008, in 64bit machine it throws an error saying cannot be upgraded, please uninstall the SQL Server 2005 and try again. Once user gets this type of message it is sure that his/her system has Windows 64bit OS. NOW IT IS THE TIME TO INSTALL TROUBLE SHOOTER. Download of trouble shooter is similar to reporter software. SETUP.EXE will be downloaded. Please download into a folder, then right click and make sure you use the option RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR. Follow the Uninstall wizard; it automatically uninstalls the SQL SERVER In your system SQL Server DB will be running in memory. It prompts with a dialog box. Please click on IGNORE Uninstallation will proceeds and uninstalls completely. After uninstallation the trouble shooter gets installed in your machine where you can check many other parameters as mentioned below. AFTER SUCCESSFUL UNINSTALLATION OF SQL SERVER 2005, PLEASE FOLLOW THE SAME STEPS AGAIN TO INSTALL THE REPORTER SOFTWARE FROM THE WEB SITE AND RUNNING SETUP.EXE. Page 2 of 13

7 Download Arial Unicode font Copy the font file in Windows\Fonts folder as mentioned in the message. Alternate method for installing fonts on Windows Vista/7/8, user needs right click the.ttf file (font file) and then Install. Page 7 of 13

13 Right click on SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) instance. Click on START option to START / RUN the instance. Starting process screenshots. SQL Server is successfully started. Close these windows and START the REPORTER SOFTWARE from SITE by downloading or run the downloaded SETUP.EXE (make sure use Run as Administrator ) option from Right click context menu. Page 13 of 13
