Creating a slideshow with captions Follow these instructions to create a slideshow that shows a timeline of events in chronological order. Open Windows Live Movie Maker Add photos - add content by clicking add videos and photos or - click here to browse for videos and photos. Add multiple files at once by holding the CTRL or SHIFT keys to select multiple files and then click the Open button. Save your work - use the pull-down menu on the left and select Save project to save your movie. If necessary rearrange (drag and drop) the photos to ensure they are in chronological order. Add transitions and effects Click the Animations tab on the ribbon to display options for transitioning from one photo to the next. Mouse-over the options to see how the photo Commonwealth of Australia 2012 Page 1
will transition into another window. To see more options, click the down arrow in the lower-right corner. If you would like the chosen transition to appear on all slides, click Apply to all. To add the transition to multiple slides, select a range by clicking the photo you want to start with, then hold down the SHIFT key and click the one you choose to end with. Add photo effects Click the Animations tab on the ribbon to display the options for panning and zooming individual slides. Automovie automatically adds various pan-and-zoom effects but if you want to change the effect, select one you prefer and add it to your photos. Click the down arrow in the lower-right corner to view other options. Click the Visual Effects tab on the ribbon to display effects on each photo. Mouse-over each effect to see how it will look before adding it. When you find one you like, click it, and it will automatically be added. To remove the effect, click No effect on the visual effects menu (the first one). Add titles, captions and credits Select the position you would like to see the title. Click the title button on the Home tab ribbon. Enter your movie title in the indicated space. Change the font, size, colour, and effects using the Text tools - format tab on the ribbon. Use the text duration feature to determine how many seconds you would like the title to appear. Add captions and credits by clicking the Caption and Credit buttons on the Home tab ribbon. Commonwealth of Australia 2012 Page 2
Sharing your slideshow Publish to YouTube Click the YouTube button in the sharing section of the Home tab. Sign in to YouTube with your username and password. YouTube will ask for a title, description, tags, category and permissions. Click the Publish button. Save the movie as a WMV file and burn to DVD Click the DVD button in the sharing section of the Home tab. Name and save the file as a Windows Media Video (WMV). Windows DVD Maker will automatically burn the DVD. Ensure a blank DVD disc is in your PC. Click next to burn the DVD. Adding music to a slideshow Click Add Music on the Home tab on the ribbon. Select the song or sounds of your choice, and click the Open button. Once you have added music or sounds the Music-Tools-Option tab appears. To split a song at a particular point in the storyboard, select the photo before the spot you would like the split. Click Split on the Music-Tools-Options tab. Drag and move the song track anywhere on the storyboard you d like. Commonwealth of Australia 2012 Page 3
To add more than one soundtrack to the movie, select the position in the slideshow where you would like to introduce the new track. Click the down arrow in the lower-right corner of the Add music button on the Home tab and access the drop-down menu. Click Add music at a current point. Select the track and click open. Adding narration to a slideshow Once you have your project content in the right order in Windows Movie Maker: Search for Sound Recorder in the start menu and open it. With the Movie Maker project open in The background, click Start Recording in the Sound Recorder and immediately click the Play control in your Movie Maker project. Narrate your story. If you make a mistake, click Stop on the Sound Recorder (don t save the file) and start again. When you have completed your narration, click Stop recording and save your audio file. Return to Movie Maker. Locate the point on the storyboard timeline that you would like to start the narration (either at the beginning or at a current point), click Add music on the Home tab, locate your audio file and add it to the project. To align the narration track, click the Music Tools tab and start playing your movie. Listen for the point in the narration where you want to start the audio and click Set start point. This allows you to sync your audio with the movie. Commonwealth of Australia 2012 Page 4
Adding a soundtrack and a narration Make the movie using Movie Maker and add a soundtrack. Export the movie and save it. (It is recommended that you use 1080p resolution.) Open a new project in Windows Movie maker. Click Add videos and photos - add the recently exported movie. Click Add music. Follow the above directions for adding a narrative track. To adjust the audio levels, click Audio mix in the Home tab to slide the bar left or right depending if you need to make the narration louder or quieter. Commonwealth of Australia 2012 Page 5
