If you have not upgraded your original system, your Avid Xpress DV hardware consists of: One of the following supported desktop systems running the Windows NT operating system: - A Dell Precision An IBM U (system with IDE disk drives) - An IBM U (system with SCSI disk drives) A Canopus 1394 capture board (1394 board) n Avid Xpress DV Release 2.0 normally requires an OHCI-compliant 1394 board. The original Canopus 1394 board is not OHCI compliant. However, Avid supplies you with an updated driver for the Canopus 1394 board that allows the board to function properly with Avid Xpress DV Release 2.0. Upgrade Overview

12 12 Release 2.0 Release Notes Differences Between Release 1.5 and Release 2.0 Before you upgrade your system you must be aware of the following three major differences between Avid Xpress DV Release 1.5 and Avid Xpress DV Release 2.0: Avid Xpress DV Release 2.0 requires 256 MB of memory. Avid Xpress DV Release 1.5 runs on the Windows NT operating system, while Avid Xpress DV Release 2.0 runs on the Windows 2000 operating system. The cabling between the original 1394 board, the system, and the Client monitor has changed (see Cabling the Canopus 1394 Board on page 15). To upgrade from Avid Xpress DV Release 1.5 to Avid Xpress DV Release 2.0 you must: Upgrade your system to 256 MB of memory. Upgrade your system to the Windows 2000 operating system. Make sure your screen resolution is set properly. Understand the new cabling for the Canopus 1394 board. Upgrading to 256 MB of Memory Prior to installing Avid Xpress DV Release 2.0, you need to make sure that your system contains 256 MB of memory. To upgrade the system to 256 MB of memory: Read the system manual that shipped with your system to purchase the type and amount of memory needed to upgrade to 256 MB. Use the instructions in the system manual that shipped with your system to install the memory into the system. Upgrading to 256 MB of Memory

13 Release 2.0 Release Notes 13 After you have installed the memory, you should boot your system using the Windows NT operating system to make sure the system is still working properly before you proceed. Upgrading to the Windows 2000 Operating System You must purchase the upgrade to the Windows 2000 operating system yourself, and install it prior to installing Avid Xpress DV Release 2.0. To provide the most stable implementation and to generate the least amount of risk, Avid highly recommends the following procedure for upgrading to Windows 2000: 1. Back up all nonrecoverable files on the system disk (normally the C partition). This would include all program files, user files, and data files that you cannot re-create. c Although you are going to reformat only the section of the system disk that contains the Windows NT operating system, you might want to back up files from both the C partition and D partition. 2. Disconnect all external disk drives from the system. 3. Go to the Dell or IBM Web site to retrieve and store the latest Windows 2000 drivers for the video board. If needed, you should also retrieve and store the latest Windows 2000 drivers for your audio board and SCSI board. The drivers should be stored on a floppy disk or on a partition of an internal disk drive that you are not going to reformat. 4. Check to make sure all of the applications you are running on Windows NT are capable of running on Windows If needed, purchase the upgrades for all separate applications. Perform a fresh installation, not an upgrade, of Windows n During the installation, Avid suggests that you use NTSF format to format the system partition (normally the C partition) according to the instructions provided during the Windows 2000 installation. If you are using the original Canopus 1394 board and a multimedia controller hardware wizard appears during the booting of the Windows 2000 operating system, you should Cancel the hardware wizard. 6. Install the latest Windows 2000 drivers for the video board, audio board, and SCSI board that you retrieved earlier. 7. Reinstall all user applications and data files. Setting Your Screen Resolution Since you have installed a new version of the operating system, you should make sure the monitor resolution is set properly. Avid recommends using a Desktop Area of 1024 x 728 pixels and a Refresh Frequency of 75 Hz as your screen resolution when running the Avid Xpress DV application. To change the resolution in your monitor display properties: 1. Right-click the desktop and select Properties. The Display Properties dialog box appears. 2. Click the Settings tab. 3. Under the Screen Area, drag the slider to the proper resolution and frequency and click OK. 4. Under Colors, select True Colors (32 bit) and click OK. 5. Click the Advanced tab under the Screen Area. 6. Click the Monitor tab. 7. Choose 75 Hertz from the Frequency pop-up menu. Setting Your Screen Resolution

15 Release 2.0 Release Notes Click Apply. n 9. Close the Display Properties dialog box. It is possible that your Avid application will run properly using a different resolution and frequency, depending upon the video board and monitor. Cabling the Canopus 1394 Board The analog and S-Video inputs and outputs on the Canopus 1394 board are no longer used by Avid Xpress DV Release 2.0, and no longer support sending an output signal to a Client monitor. The following sections explain how to connect cables to the Canopus 1394 board when you use the Avid Xpress DV Release 2.0 application. Your editing equipment might be a digital camera, a digital video deck, or an analog video deck connected to a transcoder. This section explains the connections between the editing equipment and the computer in general terms. The documentation that comes with your equipment explains the locations of cable connections and how to connect the cables. c If you have the original Canopus 1394 board installed and you connect editing equipment to this board, the Windows 2000 operating system does not generate an Add Device wizard. This allows you to connect editing equipment at any time and there is no need to read the remainder of this caution statement. However, if during the upgrade you have installed one of the newer OHCI-compliant 1394 boards with the TI chipset (new 1394 board), an Add Hardware wizard appears when you connect editing equipment to the new 1394 board. This wizard assigns a device driver to the editing equipment connected to the new 1394 board. Cabling the Canopus 1394 Board

16 16 Release 2.0 Release Notes n The Avid Xpress DV software contains the device driver you need, so do not connect the editing equipment to the new 1394 board until after you install the Avid Xpress DV software. See Assigning a Driver to Your Digital Device on page 21 if you have a new 1394 board. The cameras, video decks, and transcoders in the illustrations represent the type of equipment explained in the text. The actual equipment you have might be different. You need cables to connect the computer to the camera, digital video deck, or transcoder used with an analog video deck. You receive some or all of these cables when you purchase most digital devices. 17 DC IN 6V DV IN / OUT R AUDIO L VIDEO S-VIDEO IN OUT Release 2.0 Release Notes 17 Connecting a 1394 Cable You use a 1394 cable to connect a digital video deck, a digital camera, or a transcoder (connected to an analog video deck) to the Canopus 1394 board in your computer (see Figure 1). The Canopus 1394 board uses a 4-pin connector. Connect the monitor, speakers, keyboard, and mouse to the rear of your computer using the documents that came with your desktop computer. 2. Connect the 1394 cable from a digital video deck, a digital camera, or a transcoder to the Canopus 1394 board in the computer as shown in Figure 1. Figure 2 shows an example of a digital video deck connected to a Canopus 1394 board. The computer uses the same 1394 cable to input and output data to and from a digital video deck, a digital camera, or a transcoder. Cabling the Canopus 1394 Board

Connect the system as you did in Connecting a Computer Without a Client Monitor on page 17, but don t turn on power. 2. Connect a Client monitor to a digital video deck, a digital camera, or a transcoder using the necessary analog cable. Figure 3 shows an example of a digital video deck connected to a Client monitor. Connect powered external speakers (or built-in speakers) to a digital video deck, a digital camera, or a transcoder using the necessary cables. n 4. Turn on power to all peripheral equipment and then the system. The output data (video and audio) are synchronized as Client audio and video, and do not match the video displayed on the desktop monitor and audio sent to the system speakers. For more synchronization information, see Audio and Video Sync Issues on page 19. Audio and Video Sync Issues With the Avid Xpress DV system set up as shown in Figure 4, the video and audio might appear to be out of sync in the following situations: You are recording from a digital device A Client monitor is attached Cabling the Canopus 1394 Board

20 DV 20 Release 2.0 Release Notes The system, however, is functioning normally, as explained in the following sections: Sync Issue: When recording from a digital device (a camera, digital video deck, or transcoder), what you see on the desktop monitor and hear from the system speakers is not in sync with the incoming video and audio coming from the digital device. Explanation: The incoming video and audio from the digital device must be buffered, and then fed to the desktop monitor and system speakers. Although it might look and sound out of sync from the digital device output, the video and audio is being recorded properly. For example, if you are marking IN and OUT points while previewing video, the points will be placed in the correct location for editing. Explanation: Avid Xpress DV processes the video and audio and sends it to the desktop monitor and system speakers. The desktop video and audio will always be in sync. Cabling the Canopus 1394 Board

21 Release 2.0 Release Notes 21 However, Avid Xpress DV also provides the same video and audio in 1394 format to a digital device (camera, digital video deck, or transcoder) connected by a 1394 cable (see Figure 4). Because the Client monitor is attached to the digital device, the delay between the time the video and audio is processed internally and sent to the digital device causes the video on the Client monitor to be out of sync with the audio from the system speakers. If you need to use a Client monitor for video and hear synchronized audio: - Attach a separate pair of speakers to the same digital device the Client monitor is attached to. - Turn off or disconnect the system speakers. Client monitor video and audio from external speakers are always in sync when they are sent to the digital device. Assigning a Driver to Your Digital Device c This section only applies to a user who has upgraded from Avid Xpress DV Release 1.5 and replaced the original Canopus 1394 board with one of the supported OHCI-compliant 1394 boards that use the TI chipset. If you have an original Canopus 1394 board in your system, the driver is assigned during the installation of Avid Xpress DV Release 2.0 and this section does not apply to you. To record (input) digital data from your supported digital device, you must connect the digital device to the 1394 board (see Connecting a 1394 Cable on page 17). You then need to assign a driver to the digital device. Avid provides a driver (CustomDV.sys) that you must assign to each digital device you connect to the 1394 board. This driver allows the Avid software to control the digital device connected to the 1394 Assigning a Driver to Your Digital Device

22 22 Release 2.0 Release Notes n board. If you connect different digital devices to the 1394 board, you need to assign the same CustomDV.sys driver to each digital device. You should not connect a digital device to the 1394 board until you have installed the Avid software. The Avid software installs the OHCI-compliant driver (CustomDV.sys) that you assign to each digital device you connect to the 1394 board. The following is a general explanation of what occurs when you physically connect a digital device to the 1394 board and apply power to the digital device: The digital device generates a signal to the Windows 2000 operating system notifying the operating system that a digital device is now attached to the system. The operating system polls the digital device connected to the 1394 board to determine what type of digital device is connected. The operating system checks to see if that digital device has an assigned driver based on the following conditions: - If the digital device has been previously connected to the 1394 board, you should already have assigned a driver to the digital device and nothing is done. - If the digital device has not been previously connected to the 1394 board and does not have a driver assigned, the Windows 2000 operating system opens the Found New Hardware Wizard to assign a driver to the digital device. 23 Release 2.0 Release Notes 23 To assign the CustomDV.sys driver to the 1394 DV Camcorder (Non DirectShow) digital device using the Found New Hardware Wizard: 1. Connect the digital device to the 1394 board and apply power to the digital device. The Found New Hardware Wizard appears (see Figure 5). Figure 5 Found New Hardware Wizard 2. Click Next. The Found New Hardware Wizard continues to prompt for the needed information. 3. Select Search for a suitable driver for the 1394 DV Camcorder (Non DirectShow) and click Next. The Found New Hardware Wizard continues to prompt for the needed information. 4. Select Specify location and click Next. The Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box appears (see Figure 6). Select CustomDV.inf and click Open. CustomDV.inf is an installation information file used by the Found New Hardware Wizard to install the CustomDV.sys driver. If you do not see the.inf file, you might need to enable the View options to show hidden files. To enable show hidden files: a. Double-click My Computer. b. Choose Folder Options from the Tool menu. c. Click the View tab. d. Select the Show hidden files and folders option. e. Click OK. You should now be able to select CustomDV.inf and click Open. 7. Click OK in the Found New Hardware Wizard. The Found New Hardware Wizard continues and shows the results of the driver search: - The 1394 DV Camcorder (Non DirectShow) digital device - The system drive:\winnt\inf\customdv.inf 8. Click Next. Type System Drive:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS in the Copy files from text box, select CustomDV.sys, and click OK. 12. Click Finish. Your digital device, 1394 DV Camcorder (Non DirectShow), has now been assigned the CustomDV.sys driver. To see if the CustomDV.sys driver has been properly installed: 1. Leave the digital device connected to the 1394 board, but turn off the power to the digital device. 2. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then select Control Panel. 3. Double-click the System icon. 4. Click the Hardware tab. 5. Click Device Manager. 6. Click the + sign of Sound, Video, and Game Controller. 7. Turn on the power to the digital device. In a few seconds you should see 1394 DV Camcorder (Non DirectShow) appear in the Sound, Video, and Game Controller section. Assigning a Driver to Your Digital Device

Select Avid Xpress DV. Installation and the OHCI Drivers Avid Xpress DV does not use the default WIN2K OHCI driver, but instead uses a custom OHCI driver developed by Texas Instruments. Whenever you connect a new camera or deck (DV device) to the system via OHCI 1394, you have to link the device with Avid s custom OHCI driver rather than the default driver. There are two scenarios for accomplishing this process: You have not previously connected a DV device. You have previously connected a DV device and used the Microsoft OCHI/1394 driver. You can also link a DV device to a particular driver if you want to use a driver other than the custom OHCI driver. Linking the Driver to a New DV Device To link with the correct driver if you have not previously connected a DV device: 1. Install the Avid Xpress DV application. 2. Reboot the system. 3. Start the Avid Xpress DV application before connecting the camera or deck via the OHCI 1394 and turning it on. System Configurations

27 Release 2.0 Release Notes Connect the DV device and then turn it on. An hourglass cursor appears. 5. The Found New Hardware Wizard and the DV Driver Installed dialog box appear. 6. The dialog box instructs you to turn the DV device off and then back on so the proper driver can be installed. 7. Click OK, and turn the DV device off and then on. The Found New Hardware Wizard and the dialog box close. This establishes communication with the DV device via the custom OHCI driver. If You See the Found New Hardware Device Wizard If you turn on the DV device before you start Avid Xpress DV: The Found New Hardware Wizard appears. 1. Press Cancel to close the Found New Hardware Wizard. n 2. Turn off the DV device and go to step 1 in Linking the Driver to a New DV Device on page 26 or Linking the Driver to a DV Device Previously Linked to a Different Driver on page 27. Avid recommends that you let the Avid Xpress DV application link to the correct driver for you. If you want more information on how to configure the Found New Hardware Wizard, see Chapter 2 of the Avid Xpress DV Getting Started Guide. Linking the Driver to a DV Device Previously Linked to a Different Driver To link with the correct driver if you have previously connected a DV device that was linked to a different driver: 1. Start the Avid Xpress DV application. 2. Turn on the DV device. System Configurations

28 28 Release 2.0 Release Notes The Wrong DV Driver Active dialog box appears, instructing you to turn the DV device off. 3. Turn the DV device off, and then click Yes. The DV Driver Replaced dialog box appears, instructing you to turn the DV device back on. 4. Turn the DV device on, and then click OK. n This establishes communication with the DV device via the custom OHCI driver. If Avid Xpress DV stops communicating with the camera or deck, try turning the DV device off and then back on. Linking DV Devices to a Particular Driver You can use the DVSelect utility to link to a driver other than the Custom OHCI driver. For example, you might need to use the Microsoft driver with a third-party application. To connect DV devices with a particular driver: 1. Press Start>Programs>Avid>Utilities, and select DVSelect. The DV Driver Select dialog box appears. 2. Select one of the following: - Microsoft DV Camera and VCR Driver - XpressDV/Texas Instruments 1394 DV Camcorder Driver 3. Select Switch drivers for only those devices that are currently turned on. 4. Connect and turn on any DV devices you want to link to the selected driver. 5. Click OK. The selected driver is linked to the currently connected devices that are turned on. System Configurations

29 Release 2.0 Release Notes 29 If you do not select this option, the driver is linked to all devices you have ever connected to the system. Sentinel Drivers and the Boot Drive If you have a system where the boot drive is other than drive C, the Sentinel driver will fail to install properly. Locate your boot drive and then the Program files. Copy the Rainbow Technologies folder to C:/Program Files, and then reinstall the drivers from the Avid Xpress DV application CD-ROM. 1. Insert the Avid Xpress DV CD-ROM. 2. Click View CD. 3. Click the Installers folder. 4. Click the Sentinel USB folder. 5. Double-click the Rainbow SSD539.exe file. Sentinel Drivers and a Non-English Operating System If your system uses a non-english operating system (OS), the Sentinel driver does not install properly. The Sentinel driver installs to the English Program File folder instead of the local language Program File folder. The Avid Xpress DV application seems to run properly, you just continue to receive an error message. Locate the English Program File folder. Copy the Rainbow Technologies folder to C:/local language Program File folder, and then reinstall the drivers from the Avid Xpress DV application CD-ROM. 1. Insert the Avid Xpress DV CD-ROM. 2. Click View CD. 3. Click the Installers folder. System Configurations

30 30 Release 2.0 Release Notes 4. Click the Sentinel USB folder. 5. Double-click the Rainbow SSD539.exe file. Increasing the Paging File For best performance, Avid recommends that you increase the paging file. The recommended paging file should be set to 384 MB for both the Maximum and the Initial (minimum) size. This will help prevent disk fragmentation. You should install paging file on a system disk that is not used for media. To increase the paging file: 1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then select Control Panel. 2. Double-click System. 3. Click the Advanced tab in the System Properties dialog box. 4. Click Performance Options. 5. In the Virtual Memory section, click Change. 6. Select the appropriate drive. 7. Set Initial Size and Maximum Size to 384 MB. 8. Click Set. 9. Click OK to close the Virtual Memory dialog box. 10. Click OK to close the Performance Options dialog box. 11. Click OK to close the System Properties dialog box. A message box asks if you want to restart your computer. 12. Click Yes. Increasing the Paging File

31 Release 2.0 Release Notes 31 Dell Precision 220 Systems Audio might not work properly when you run Avid Xpress DV on a Dell Precision 220 system with the Windows 2000 operating system. The incorrect audio driver is selected by Windows To fix this problem, before installing the Avid Xpress DV application: 1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then select Control Panel. 2. Double-click the Sounds and Multimedia Properties icon. The Sounds and Multimedia Properties dialog box appears. 3. Click the Audio tab. 4. From the Sound Playback section, click the AC 97 Sound Card from the Preferred device menu. 5. From the Sound Recording section, click the AC 97 Sound Card from the Preferred device menu. 6. From the MIDI Music Playback section, click the Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth from the Preferred device menu. 7. Select the Use only preferred devices option. 8. Click OK. This allows the AC 97 Driver for Intel 82801AA to be used. Dell Precision 330 or IBM M Pro Systems If you have a Dell Precision 330 system or an IBM M Pro system, you should install the new version of the ADI driver provided on the Avid Xpress DV CD-ROM. This new driver fixes an audio dropout problem when recording from an analog audio source. Dell Precision 220 Systems

32 32 Release 2.0 Release Notes To see if you need to update: 1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then select Control Panel. 2. Double-click the Sounds and Multimedia Properties icon. The Sounds and Multimedia Properties dialog box appears. 3. Click the Audio tab. If SoundMAX Digital Audio is selected as the Preferred Device used for Playback and Recording, you should upgrade to the new ADI driver. To access the ADI driver installer: 1. Insert the Avid Xpress DV CD-ROM. 2. Click View the CD. 3. Click the Goodies folder. 4. Click ADI_Driver. 5. Double-click the Setup.exe file. A dialog box appears informing you to uninstall the current version of the ADI_Driver. 6. Click No. The installation continues. DV In DV/Out Cards Avid Xpress DV supports selected DV In/DV Out cards and ports. Check for the most up-to-date list. These include: OHCI-compliant IEEE chip (Texas Instrument based technology) Canopus DV Raptor card (for Avid Xpress DV 1.x upgrade systems only) DV In DV/Out Cards

33 Release 2.0 Release Notes 33 OHCI Chip - TI 1394 Integrated Circuit Device The TI (Texas Instrument) OHCI chip is the only OHCI chip that Avid has qualified to use with the Avid Xpress DV system. Avid will only support, and highly recommends, the use of the TI 1394 Link and PHY chip. FireWire Support At this time, Avid only supports the use of one FireWire port at a time. You can only have a single device connected to the Avid Xpress DV system at one time. For example, if you have a camera connected to your system and want to use a video deck, you will have to disconnect your camera and then connect the video deck. In addition, Avid has not officially qualified FireWire drives at this time. Screen Resolution n Avid requires a minimum Desktop Area of 1024 x 768 pixels, the Color Palette must be set to True Color, and a Refresh Frequency of 75 Hertz as your screen resolution when running the Avid Xpress DV application. Higher screen resolutions can be used. Screen resolutions will be limited by the system graphic board and the monitor specifications. FireWire Support

34 34 Release 2.0 Release Notes Sentinel USB Dongle After installing the Avid Xpress DV application, the system might not be able to locate the Sentinel USB dongle. The USB dongle is a plug-and-play device, which means that if it is attached to the computer before you install the Avid Xpress DV application, the Windows 2000 operating system will connect to the default USB driver, rather than the Sentinel driver installed with the Avid Xpress DV installer. You need to install the Sentinel USB dongle drivers again. To install the Sentinel USB dongle driver: 1. Detach the USB dongle from the computer prior to installing the Avid Xpress DV application. 2. Install the Avid Xpress DV application. 3. After installing the Avid Xpress DV application, reboot your system, and then reattach the USB dongle to the computer. This procedure should properly install the Sentinel Super Pro USB dongle driver. However, if you start the Avid Xpress DV application and you receive this error message, No dongle was found. Please connect a valid dongle to this computer to ensure proper operation, you need to follow these additional steps to complete the driver and dongle installation. 4. Keep the dongle attached through steps 5-11 below. 5. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then select Control Panel. 6. Double-click Add/Remove Hardware. The Add/Remove Hardware Wizard opens. 7. Click Next. 8. From the Choose a Hardware Task dialog box, click Add/Troubleshoot a device and click Next. Sentinel USB Dongle

35 Release 2.0 Release Notes 35 The Add/Remove Hardware Wizard searches for a list of hardware devices in the system. 9. After the Devices list displays, scroll to the Rainbow USB Super Pro device and select this device. Click Next. The Completing the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard panel opens. This panel should say that the device is installed and working properly. 10. Click Finish. The wizard closes and Help opens. 11. Close the Help window. 12. Start the Avid Xpress DV application. The system should connect to the Sentinel USB dongle. Logging into the Windows 2000 System When using the Avid Xpress DV application, you should always be logged in with Administrator privileges. NTFS and Media Files Avid recommends storing media on an NTFS file system. If you use something other than NTFS (FAT or FAT32), the system might not rebuild your media database under certain circumstances. If you receive an error message Unsupported Resolution Error in NTSC or Compression_Not_Supported in PAL, you need to delete the msmfmid.pmr file. Locate Program Files/Avid/Avid Xpress DV/SupportingFiles/Avid_MediaFiles. Click the msmfmid.pmr file and delete it. Logging into the Windows 2000 System

36 36 Release 2.0 Release Notes Eject Disk Warning with IDE System Drives c In the Avid Xpress DV application, do not choose Eject Disk from the File menu if you have IDE drives. Choosing Eject Disk causes a system error and might cause you to lose unsaved data. With the current release, the Eject Disk command allows you to select SCSI media drives only, and make them inaccessible to Avid Xpress DV. This command does not work with IDE system drives. Warning Regarding Your Application Key The application key, commonly referred to as a dongle, allows the Avid Xpress DV software to run on your system. Protect your application key from loss or theft because your Avid Xpress DV software does not function without it, and acquiring a new application key from Avid involves a fee. Installing Avid Xpress DV Software n This section describes how to install the Avid Xpress DV application and its related components from the installation CD-ROM. In order to install or remove the application software, you need to use an account with administrative privileges. Installing the Windows 2000 Heap Hotfix Avid has obtained a fix from Microsoft that repairs a Heap corruption error. This fix is included on the Avid Xpress DV CD-ROM. If you are currently running Windows Service Pack 1 (SP1), then you need to install this Heap Hotfix. Eject Disk Warning with IDE System Drives

37 Release 2.0 Release Notes 37 n The Heap Hotfix included on the Avid Xpress DV CD-ROM is for an English operating system only. You should install the Heap Hotfix on your system before you install the Avid Xpress DV application. n When you run the Avid Xpress DV installer, the system will alert you if you need to install the Heap Hotfix on your system. For more information about this fix, go to: To install the Heap Hotfix: 1. Insert the Avid Xpress DV application CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. 2. Click Installers. 3. Click Install Windows 2000 Hotfix. The system installs the fix. 4. When the install is complete, click OK. Your system will reboot automatically. Installing Avid Xpress DV Software and All Components To install the Avid Xpress DV software, you must be logged in with administrative privileges. To install the Avid Xpress DV software and all related components: 1. Quit all active applications. 2. Insert the Avid Xpress DV application CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. If you have previously installed Avid Xpress DV, the Welcome window for the Setup Maintenance program opens. Follow the steps in Modifying, Repairing, or Removing Avid Applications on page In the Welcome window, click Next. The Country Selection for License Agreement window opens. 6. Select the country in which you purchased this product. Click Next. 7. In the License Agreement window, read the agreement, and then click Yes to accept the terms of the agreement. 8. In the Choose Destination Location window, accept the default path for the application folder (on drive C) by clicking Next. The default path is: C:\Program Files\Avid\Avid Xpress DV 9. In the AVX Plug-in Location window, accept the default path for the AVX Plug_in folder (on drive D) by clicking Next. The default path is: D:\Avid\AVX_Plug-ins 10. In the Application Data Location window, indicate a location for the application files (project folders and user folders). The default path is: C:\Program Files\Avid\Avid Xpress DV 11. Click Next. Performing a Custom Installation You can perform a custom installation to install particular files from the installation CD-ROM.
