1 Step-by-Step Student Guide to: Anglia Learning and Teaching Enrolling in Turnitin, Submitting a Paper and Viewing an Originality Report. Step 1: Enrol as a new user. Go to your My.Anglia homepage and click on the Turnitin link (under Application Links ). Make sure you familiarise yourself with the Turnitin Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. The first time you access Turnitin, you will need to create an account as a new user, using your University student address and creating your own memorable password; the second and subsequent times you will log in using those details. 3 1.4 Continue to enrol: If you have used Turnitin before, use your address and password to log in. If this is the first time you have enrolled in Turnitin, continue to follow the instructions. 4 1.5 Complete all the instructions on this page: From your tutor, or in the Module Guide, or on the VLE. This must be your Anglia Ruskin address. Here you create your own password that you will use to access your account in future. The class you have enrolled in will appear on your home page. 5 Step 2: Submit an assignment. To submit an assignment, from your home page 2.1. Enter the class by clicking on the class name: Note: You will see the name of the class you have just enrolled in. This screenshot is just an example. 2.2 Click submit to start the process of submitting your assignment Click here to view details of a previous submission. 6 Note: There may be more than one assignment for a class. Click submit against the appropriate assignment. 2.3 Complete the information as illustrated below (you will need to scroll down the screen to view): Note: The submission title is the title of your own piece of work, which will not necessarily be the same as the name of the assignment. Note: there will be a short delay while the paper is uploaded. 7 2.4 Check the paper A new screen opens with an unformatted version of your paper to allow you to confirm that this is the right paper. If you are satisfied that this is the correct paper, scroll down and click submit. If you have uploaded the wrong paper simply click the return to upload page link and start again. (i) View unformatted text of paper. (ii) Click submit to continue with upload (iii) or if you wish to return and submit a different paper, click here. If you have uploaded the correct assignment, click submit. If you have uploaded the wrong assignment, click return to upload page, and start again. 9 Step 3: The Originality Report. An Originality Report is the report generated by the Turnitin service, which highlights any text within your assignment that matches text in other documents in the Turnitin database. These include journal articles, web pages and assignments submitted by other students. Originality Reports are usually generated within a few minutes, but larger documents may take longer. For large documents such as dissertations, you might want to consider submitting a chapter at a time (but note the delay between repeat submissions). The report will eventually be generated, whether or not you are logged into Turnitin. Note: You may get a message that the report is Not Available. If so, speak to your tutor (instructor) to determine whether s/he has set the assignment to allow you to see your Originality Report. Important: You should never leave it until the last minute to submit your assignment to Turnitin for checking. Your first submission should be no later than 48 hours before the assignment submission deadline. There will be a delay of 24 hours between Originality Reports if you have previously submitted to the same assignment. 3.1 Viewing your assignment and Originality Report Click the percentage figure to open up the document viewer window and view your Originality Report: Click here to see your Originality Report. Note: the Originality Report should open by default in the Document Viewer displaying a full breakdown of results. If it does not, click on the Originality tab in the top left corner (this will then be highlighted in red). 10 Important Note: The percentage figure (Similarity Index) shows the percentage of text in your paper which matches with other online sources. However, there are many justifiable reasons why text will match with other sources, and so as long as you have properly referenced your paper, a seemingly high match may not be an indication of poor academic practice. To fully understand how to interpret this figure, you should discuss the report with your tutor. A copy of your Originality Report will also be lodged in your Class Instructor s account (the Class Instructor is the person who created the Class that you enrolled in). For discussion with your tutor, you can either print out your report or arrange to discuss it online. Step 4: Resubmitting an Assignment. So long as the instructor has set up the assignment to allow multiple submissions, you can resubmit an assignment at any time. However, an Originality Report for a resubmission will take up to 24 hours to generate. You may see the following message: Important: You should never leave it until the last minute to submit your assignment to Turnitin for checking. There will be a delay of 24 hours between Originality Reports if you have previously submitted to the same assignment. Step 5: Enrolling in additional classes. Log in to your Turnitin Account. On your home page, click the enrol in a class tab. Enter the class ID and enrolment password that you have been given by your tutor. 11 Then click submit to continue. The class will now appear on your home page, and you may enter it and submit an assignment as already described.
