3 Contactor Elite Autoresponder Guide 3 1 Step 1 - Login to hosting control panel If your hosting account has a control panel or management console then you should log into this as this is where some of the installation tasks will need to be performed. Create a MySQL database and user First we need to create a MySQL database and user. There are two options at this stage, depending on what type of server you have. If you have a shared hosting account then you MUST select option 1. Only if you have a dedicated or virtual server with root user access can you consider option 2. The second condition for choosing option 2 is if you are going to have a large number of users ( > 20 users ) with large subscriber databases ( > 100,000 subscribers ). 1. Standard 2. Advanced Standard If you on a shared hosting setup then Option 1 is probably the only option available to you. This option will install the whole system into one single database. What you need to do is create a normal database and database user through your control panel. Create new MySQL database called ea ( without the quotes )

4 Contactor Elite Autoresponder Guide 4 Create new MySQL user called eauser ( without the quotes ) Grant ALL permissions to the new MySQL user on the new MySQL database you have just created. If your hosting control panel does not let you grant ALL permissions then you can select them individually they are ALTER CREATE TEMPORARY TABLES CREATE DELETE DROP SELECT INSERT UPDATE REFERENCES INDEX LOCK TABLES Your hosting control panel will probably prefix the MySQL database name and MySQL user name with something, usually your account name. For example my hosting account prefix is elitear which means my database is called elitear_ea and my database user is elitear_eauser. Advanced Attention: onto a dedicated server should only be attempted by someone who is familiar with administration of a Linux server. 2007

5 Contactor Elite Autoresponder Guide 5 Only if you have a dedicated or virtual server with root user access can you consider this installation option. It is recommended you choose Standard unless you are going to have a large number of users ( > 20 users ) with large subscriber databases ( > 100,000 subscribers ). With this option the software will dynamically create databases for each user in the system, this is why it requires root level access. To create a MySQL user with the correct privileges you will need to login to your server, preferably via SSH. Once logged into your server login to MySQL by typing mysql at the command prompt. mysql> CREATE DATABASE elitear_admin default character set 'utf8' default collate 'utf8_general_ci'; mysql> GRANT Select, Insert, Update, Delete, Create, Drop, Index, Alter, Lock tables ON *.* TO elitearuser@localhost IDENTIFIED BY "enteryourpasswordhere"; mysql> FLUSH PRIVILEGES; mysql> exit; Later on in the installation you will need to enter the name of the database, MySQL user and MySQL password into the installer.

6 Contactor Elite Autoresponder Guide 6 Upload Contactor Elite Autoresponder onto your web server Take a note of your FTP login details before beginning this step. Download the Contactor Elite Autoresponder Installer from: After it has downloaded, run the file ContactorEliteAutoresponder.exe. The installation program After you run ContactorEliteAutoresponder.exe you will see the following screen Click on the "Next" button to continue.

7 Contactor Elite Autoresponder Guide 7 FTP Account Details You will then see a screen which asks you for your FTP connection details to your web server. Enter details in the FTP server address, FTP username and FTP password fields then click on the "Browse" button. Select domain's web folder When you click on the "Browse" button you will see a "Browse for FTP folder" window appear. Select the public_html folder. Your folder may be named differently to this example, it may be www or httpdocs or something similar, but the folder you need to select is the one which contains your website files. Note: The software will be installed into the ea folder inside the folder you select. There is no need to create an ea folder as the installer will do this for you. Once you have selected your web folder click on the "OK" button to continue.

8 Contactor Elite Autoresponder Guide 8 Click on the "Next" button. The Installer will then run through a series if checks on your web server. Enter website URL You will then see a screen where you need to enter your full website name. In my example I have used but you should insert your own web site address. Then click on the "Next" button.

9 Contactor Elite Autoresponder Guide 9 Installer test results The Installer will then run through some additional tests and then display a screen which lets you know it is ready to install. Click on the "Next" button to proceed. Transferring files The Installer will then start to transfer the files to your web server. This process will take approximately 9-10 minutes. Click on the "Next" button to proceed.

10 Contactor Elite Autoresponder Guide 10 System check When you enter the web section of the installation you will see a page which will test your server for compatibility with Contactor Elite Autoresponder. If you see any messages which say FAILED then the software is not compatible with your server in its present configuration. There can be a number of reasons why it will fail the compatibility test and it may be possible for your hosting provider to change the configuration to suit. If, however, it is not possible for them to change their configuration you can opt for hosting from an Contactor Elite Autoresponder certified hosting provider. Please visit for the latest list of certified hosts. If your server is compatible then you will see a screen like the one on the right. If you see PASSED for each bullet point then a button will be near the bottom of the page which says "Install Contactor Elite Autoresponder". Click on this button to continue. If you have any errors then you will not get an option to continue with the installation please visit for details of the system requirements.

11 Contactor Elite Autoresponder Guide 11 You will then see a page which displays a similar version of the previous screen. Click on the "Next" button to proceed.

12 Contactor Elite Autoresponder Guide 12 Choose installation type The next page allows you to choose whether you want Standard or Advanced. Only if you have a dedicated or virtual server with root user access can you consider selecting Advanced and only if you are going to have a large number of users ( > 20 users ) with large subscriber databases ( > 100,000 subscribers ), will you see the benefits of selecting Advanced. Click on the "Next" button to proceed.

13 Contactor Elite Autoresponder Guide 13 MySQL Database settings On this screen you need to enter your MySQL database information in the boxes provided. Click on the "Next" button to proceed.

14 Contactor Elite Autoresponder Guide 14 Domain and Settings On this screen you need to enter the following details.. Domain name Support address System address POP3 server POP3 "Catchall" account username POP3 "Catchall" account password Click on the "Next" button to proceed.

15 Contactor Elite Autoresponder Guide 15 User files and sample mailing list This screen allows you to create a sample Mailing List and add a subscriber to it. Click on the "Next" button to proceed.

16 Contactor Elite Autoresponder Guide 16 confirmation page This is the last screen before the installation system creates the databases and configures your system. WARNING: Once you click on the Install Now button any data you have in a previous Contactor Elite Autoresponder installation will be lost. Click on the "Next" button to proceed.

17 Contactor Elite Autoresponder Guide 17 progress Now the installation script will run through a series of steps which create and configure the databases to the information you entered. Once it has finished you can click on the Login button to be taken to your system.

18 Contactor Elite Autoresponder Guide 18 Activating Contactor Elite Autoresponder The next step is to activate your new installation of Contactor Elite Autoresponder. On the main menu select "Help -> Activate License" You will then be taken to the Activate License page where you need to enter three pieces of information. 1. Your license number* 2. Your password** 3. Your activation code*** * A sixteen digit number provided in the purchase confirmation from Contactor Elite Autoresponder ** An 8 digit number provided in the purchase confirmation from Contactor Elite Autoresponder *** A long string of characters and numbers issued to you when you activated your license Technology license manager as per the instructions in the purchase confirmation from Contactor Elite Autoresponder You should copy and paste the information to ensure it is exactly as it was given to you. The activation code must not have any spaces or breaks when you copy it. If there are any mistakes the system will not activate itself correctly Click on the "Activate" button to proceed. Note: Sometimes if your system has been de-activated or you have changed your domain name then you might have to enter the license details a second time for the system to be correctly activated.

19 Contactor Elite Autoresponder Guide 19 Remove installation script After you have finished installing your software you MUST remove the files test.php and install.php from the ea folder on your web site. You can do this, either by your FTP utility or sometimes the control panels for websites have a file browser utility which will allow you to delete these two files. If you don t do this someone could run the installation script and delete your data. Change password from the default setting To ensure no-one can get access to your Contactor Elite Autoresponder marketing system you MUST change your password to something other than the default. To change the username and password click on the Login/Password link from the Toolbox menu. Then enter your new username and password in the form which appears. Click on the "Next" button to proceed. Note: If you do not change the password from the default settings then you may be in breach of your hosting providers terms and could risk having your website shut down.
