1 WELCOME TO SAM HOUSTON STATE UNIVERSITY We are happy to have you!! #1. Get your Sam Houston Identification Number Aka SamID #2. Begin your housing application Please follow the steps listed to help navigate your transition to BearKat Nation. A) Follow the proceeding pages for detailed instructions on how to complete the application B) This must be done by March 1st for the next Fall Spring Term C) $ Deposit must be placed to complete the application D) Deposit needs to be a credit card; no cash, money order, or Visa gift card will be accepted E) The Meningitis Requirements are for all students living in residence halls under 22 years of age #3. Once your application is completed, the Residence Life Office Staff will assign you a room #4. ELI is responsible for notifying Residence Life of new or incoming students **Follow the link for what to bring with you when living on campus**
2 NEW HOUSING APPLICATION Fast Links Residence Life Housing Application Apply Online MySam Students Tab Apply for Housing There are two different ways to get to the housing application. The first is to go through the student s MySam Account and the second is to go through the Residence Life Home Page.
3 Be sure to read all information located on the home page before proceeding. Click on Application Link Application Select the term for which you are applying. Click Save & Continue
4 Step 1 Welcome The Application Menu will guide you through the application process, and will be a reference point should you need to complete your application at another time. Make note of the timeline of dates listed. Click Begin Application
5 Step 2 Personal and Contact Details REVUP Read, Verify, and Update all requested information. Click Save & Continue
6 Step 3 Medical Information Fill out any specific special needs that you may have due to disability. If this does not apply to you, simply click Save & Continue. Step 4 Upload Medical Information This step allows you the ability to upload any medical documentation that surrounds your disability. If this does not apply to you, simply click the Save & Continue.
7 Step 5 Questionnaire You will slide the indicator box from left to right by clicking and dragging it to the location which best describes you. Be honest and realistic in your answers to help the roommate matching tool search for roommate compatibility. Example: If you would like the room to remain clean after you straighten it up you would not prefer a roommate who indicates they like to keep their room cluttered. If you really do not mind either way you would place the indicator in the middle. Once complete, click Save & Continue
8 Step 6 Terms and Conditions Read the Terms and Conditions in its entirety. Click Save & Continue. After reading, check the box agreeing to the terms and conditions It is always a good idea to print your contract for your records. This step will also have you pay your housing deposit fee. A portion of this fee may be returned as long as all the contractual obligations have been met. Click Save & Continue.
9 Step 7 Confirm Completion of Application Confirm that the application details are correct. Click Submit If you have found an error in the application, prior to submission click on the step that requires a change of information. This will take you back to that step to make your corrections. Once corrections have been made, click Save & Continue and click back on Step 7. Verify that the information that you have changed is now correct, if so click Submit.
10 Step 8 Roommate Selection Roommate selection can be made by the following 3 methods Search Roommate by Details Search by Profile Roommate Profile Matching CAUTION: When selecting a roommate, both students must have completed a housing application for the same term, provided evidence of meningitis vaccination, request and confirm roommate status online, and finally a double occupancy room must be available. ***Roommate Compatibility or Selection is NOT a guarantee ***
11 Step 8 Roommate Selection Search By Profile After roommate selection, click Save & Continue Roommate Profile Matching
12 APPLICATION COMPLETED!!!!! Cancellation Page Please be aware of the cancellation dates, if you would like to cancel and it is within the cancellation window you may do so by clicking on the Cancellation Page Link. Cancellations after the deadline may only be done through the Residence Life Office, and require approval.
13 Now that you have completed the application process you will need to remember to get your meningitis vaccination verification documentation submitted to the SHSU Student Health Center via one of the following methods: Mail: SHSU Student Health Center Huntsville, TX Fax: (936) Questions regarding the meningitis vaccination documentation are directed to the SHSU Student Health Center (936) You will only be able to make a room reservation or search for a roommate after your documentation has been entered into your SHSU electronic record by the Student Health Center. If you have completed the application you should check your SHSU account to learn more details about roommate and room reservation. The sent from Residence Life will also tell you when you can expect to receive another important from Residence Life which will disclose the timeslot assigned to you based on your application completion date or if you have a confirmed roommate, the latest completion date between the two of you. Please be aware that if you chose to skip the roommate selection portion of the process a roommate will most likely assign themselves to your room or be placed in the room by Residence Life. Roommate compatibility is never guaranteed. The time slot will disclose the beginning date and time you are able to go back into your Housing application and Complete the Room Selection Portion. ROOM SELECTION: Select the building you would like to view and if there are available rooms you will be able to click on the room you desire. For more specific details you will need to refer to your timeslot . Once the self-select Room Selection has ended any remaining reservations will be assigned by the Department of Residence Life. Please contact the Residence Life Office if you have any questions regarding the housing application. ******If you are NOT a First Year Required student who is required to live on-campus and purchase a meal plan the meal plan portion of this application process will not be available to you. If you would like a meal plan and are not considered a First Year Required Student please refer to the Meal Plan tab on the Residence Life webpage for detailed instruction for meal plan selection. Requests to change meal plan options are to be done by the student online while the dining portal is open. First Year Required students will only be able to select from the required meal plan options. After the dining portal has closed, all requests must be submitted to the Residence Life Office in person. The request will be reviewed, during which time supportive documentation is required, and approvals are not guaranteed. SHSU Department of Residence Life (936)
14 This option will only appear if you are a First Year Required Student. All others who wish to purchase a Meal Plan must do so through the MySam Portal. First Year Required Meal Plan Preference Notice the Application Menu has included an additional step prior to Terms and Conditions to accommodate for Meal Plan. All First Year Required Students will be automatically signed up for the All Access Plan. This can be changed through your MySam Account. MySam Students Dining Click Save & Continue
