1 May 24, 2017 Dear D 21 Student, We hope this mailing finds you having an enjoyable spring. Congratulations to all those of you who are completing degree programs this semester! Below you will find additional information and deadlines to aid you in your preparations for your upcoming matriculation as a Tufts University School of Dental Medicine student. Orientation Please remember that orientation will begin on Thursday, July 27, Attendance is mandatory for all incoming students. Additional information will be sent to you by the Office of Student Affairs this summer. Book Requirement All incoming students are required to read and write a book review. The book has not yet been determined, but it will be specified in a later mailing. Vertical Integration Program The Vertical Integration Program matches incoming first year students with rising 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year students who can serve as mentors to help acclimate you to TUSDM and the greater clinical experience. You will have a chance to meet your upper-class partners during a luncheon held in August. You should have received a survey via which will help assist the Office of Admissions in pairing you with upper class students. Please respond to this survey in a timely manner. Upcoming deadlines For all entering students completing spring semester coursework (for those on a semester system,) an official copy of your spring 2017 grades must be submitted by June 15, All additional transcripts, with the exception of summer 2017 transcripts, must be submitted by June 15, Summer 2017 transcripts are due by July 1, If your official transcript(s) will not be available by the stated deadlines, or your term concludes after these deadlines, please submit a letter as soon as possible indicating the date in which they will become available. You will be responsible for providing a grade report for the class and/or communicating your grade immediately following completion of the course. Failure to submit all transcripts (or above mentioned letter) by June 15, 2017 will jeopardize your position in the DMD Class of Please note: All official transcripts must be sent directly to the Office of Admissions at Tufts. Although you have sent them to AADSAS previously, these transcripts are NOT forwarded to Tufts. Therefore, you are required to have an official transcript sent directly to our office.

2 Missing Documents In the coming week, the Office of Admissions will a checklist to all incoming students notifying you of missing documents, including transcripts, 2 nd Dean s Certification of Disciplinary History forms, and other missing information. Please be sure to submit the required documents by the deadlines indicated. Address Changes All electronic correspondence will be sent to your address as indicated on the AADSAS application. All mailed correspondence will be sent to your preferred address as indicated on the AADSAS application. To prevent lost or delayed mail, please send any updates to your contact information (mailing addresses, address, phone number), to denadmissions@tufts.edu AND to AADSAS at aadsasinfo@aadsasweb.org. Please include your full name (as it appears on your AADSAS application) and AADSAS ID. Please indicate whether the change is to the mailing address, permanent address, or both. Tufts Student ID During orientation, all incoming students will receive their Tufts University student ID. Please read the attached memo with instructions on how to submit your picture for the ID. Failure to submit the picture by July 8, 2017 will result in you not being allowed to register with your classmates. Extracted Teeth All incoming students will be required to obtain human extracted teeth (24-36) prior to arriving at Tufts in late July. Additional instructions and materials for obtaining and storing the teeth will been sent to your preferred address via U.S. Mail by The Infection Control Office at TUSDM shortly. The packets are being mailed to the preferred mailing address on record with the Office of Admissions. The packet includes: TUSDM Human Extracted Teeth Policy for Collection, Handling and Transportation of human teeth with link to instructional video; Materials and step-by-step instructions for collection of human teeth that will need to be obtained for pre-clinical workshops beginning this academic year; A handout explaining this protocol in detail. If you do not receive the packet in a timely manner, or have any questions pertaining to the collection of teeth, please contact Shannon Balletto in the Infection Control Office at shannon.balletto@tufts.edu. Computer Requirements Please note that the School of Dental Medicine requires students to have a laptop with wireless network capabilities in order to facilitate computer based testing. Please refer to the attached memo to determine if your current laptop meets the required specifications, or when purchasing a new device. Lab Coats Tufts University School of Dental Medicine requires that incoming students purchase at least two white lab coats. Both white lab coats must be knee length. Knee length coats will protect your clothing more when working with messy dental materials and will provide overall better protection in Gross Anatomy. Students are responsible for ordering and purchasing lab coats and should have obtained them prior to Orientation.

3 Scrubs Tufts University School of Dental Medicine requires that incoming students purchase at least two sets of scrubs. Students in the Class of 2021 are permitted to only wear Grey colored scrubs as that is your class color. Cherokee brand scrubs are recommended because of their high quality and durability. Please see the attached sheet for size information. ***You are also required to embroider the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine logo (see image below) on the left breast of the scrubs, and your first and last name on the right side in blue thread.***

4 Healthcare mandates stipulate that no scrubs can be returned or exchanged so be careful to order the correct size. TUSDM is currently not using ipad School of Dental Medicine students find that computers are useful study aids both on-campus and offcampus to access course material on the Web, and to read and review the increasing number of courserelated materials that are presented in an electronic format. In addition, a majority of class and school wide communication is provided by . The Office of Academic Affairs will be hosting a training on ExamSoft during Orientation Week. 8 Memo To: Members of the DMD Class of 2021 From: Dr. Jeanette Sabir-Holloway, Director of Admissions, Recruitment, and Outreach Date: May 13, 2017 RE: Student IDs During Orientation, each student will receive their Tufts University student ID. Among other things, the student ID will allow you access to buildings and rooms, the library, and be used when performing patient procedures. To facilitate campus police in the creation of student IDs, we ask that you follow the directions below to upload an appropriate picture of yourself prior to July 8, Failure to meet this deadline will result in you not being allowed to register with your classmates. In order to upload, the student will need to log into their Tufts account at least once before attempting to upload a photo. Students can login and submit right from their smartphone. You will be able to choose to take a photo while logged in or to upload a photo that s already on their phone. To upload your photo, please use your UTLN and password to log in at the following site: Guidelines: The image must be in color and feature a clear, full-face view of only you. You must be wearing normal street attire. You may not wear a hat or dark glasses The background must be plain white or off-white. The photo must sufficiently recent to be of a to be a good likeness; normally within the last 6 months Image files must be in JPEG format and must be no larger than 6MB It's okay to smile - after all, you ve just joined the Tufts community!

9 Year 1 Scrub Information The Tufts University Dental School requires that incoming students purchase at least two sets of scrubs. 10 TUSDM Marketplace Hey everyone! Welcome to Tufts, and congrats on your acceptance! TUSDM has a Facebook page where students can post items they would like to buy or sell, apartments they are leasing, if anyone is searching for a roommate, etc. If you are interested in joining, please search "TUSDM Marketplace" and request admission into the group. You will be prompted for your affiliation with Tufts. Please let the administrators of the group know what class you are (D 21). That way we know you are an actual incoming student, and can admit you right away. We do screen requests to avoid having non-tufts Dental affiliated people in the group.
