Notification System How it works NotificationSystem_CitizenReporter.py Runs hourly Checks for changes within last hour Script looks for New Reports and/or recently updated Reports (made by County Managers) and follows different business rules to determine who receives a notification and for what reason. Types of notification fall into four different categories: 1. Automated Notice of New Reports: is generated to let staff know that new reports have been submitted (County only, Waterway and Roadway Reporter) 2. Automated Notice of New Comments: is generated to let staff know that a new comment was entered on an existing, publicly viewable report (County only, Waterway and Roadway Reporter) 3. DuDOT Notice of Verified Reports: Notices of Verified Reports fall into two categories: a) s sent to Assigned Jurisdictions (whether DuDOT crew or another Jurisdiction), and b) s sent to the User if the Report is assigned to a Jurisdiction other than DuDOT 4. DuDOT Notice of Completed Report: is sent to User whenever DuDOT completes an issue
Notification System, cont. Logic/Business Rules 1) Automated Notice of New Reports: Initial notices are sent out to either DuDOT or Stormwater staff letting them know a Report was submitted within the last hour s include a quick link that opens a ArcGIS webmap, and includes the following: Map marker at the location of the Report Report Type Report Details User Contact info Report ID
Notification System, cont. Logic/Business Rules 1) Automated Notice of New Reports, cont.:
Notification System, cont. Logic/Business Rules 2) Automated Notice of New Comments: Comments are recorded in a related table, so the script creates a look up of the associated Feature s Report ID to include in the , in addition to the Comment text itself Notices of new comments submitted are helpful in monitoring (both good and bad) activity by DuDOT and Stormwater staff If content is abusive, staff follow link, search for provided Report ID then delete or modify the comment
Notification System, cont. Example 2) Automated Notice of New Comments, cont.:
Notification System, cont. Logic/Business Rules 3) DuDOT Notice of Verified Reports: ( sent to Jurisdiction) Before any Verified Report notifications are sent, DuDOT Management updates values in the following fields: Public View Jurisdiction Assigned Report Status Notification Status sent to Jurisdiction Assigned s can be sent to any one of 43 different Roadway jurisdictions in our County Within DuDOT, Reports can also be assigned to 8 different types of specific work crews, such as pothole crews, tree crews, path crews, etc. Once the is sent, the script automatically updates the Notification Status value from Send Notification to Notification Sent
Notification System, cont. Example 3) Notice of Verified Reports, cont.: ( sent to Jurisdiction)
Notification System, cont. Example 3) Notice of Verified Reports, cont.: ( sent to User) The User is notified when a Report is assigned to a Jurisdiction other than DuDOT is sent at the same time that the Jurisdiction is notified of the Report
Notification System, cont. Logic/Business Rules 3) Notice of Verified Reports, cont.: (Report Status updated in App) Report Status reflected in notices shown in publicly visible Report
Notification System, cont. Logic/Business Rules 4) DuDOT Notice of Completed Report When DuDOT completes work on a submitted issue, the User will get an notification.
Roadway Report Lifecycle Script Geoprocessing Tasks: Run spatial intersection b/w Jurisdictions layer and Reports, join data to create Assigned Jurisdictions, generate Report ID s Script Notifications: 4. DuDOT Notice to User of Completed Report 2. County Staff Review and Update the Report 1. Citizen Submits Report 3. DuDOT deploys resources to correct DuDOT issues 4. County Staff update Report as Completed Script Geoprocessing Tasks: Update Notification Status field after sending Verified Reports s and send s Notifications: 1. Automated notice of New Reports 2. Automated notice of New Comments on existing Reports 3. DuDOT Notice of Verified Reports ( s to Assigned Jurisdictions and to Users if Report is within other Jurisdiction.
Next Steps Does your agency have a Roadway Jurisdiction in DuPage County? Want to be notified of issues submitted to our app that fall in your Jurisdiction? We just need an ! Jurisdictions can opt out will receive no notifications from DuPage County. The end User will instead be notified to contact their Local Jurisdiction for the issue they were reporting to us Contact us with questions or to get started!
