4 Installation Arduino IDE This manual is written to use the Arduino IDE, feel free to use your own Arduino compatible IDE. I prefer to use Visual Studio with Visual Micro. Download the latest Arduino IDE from

5 Add Boards We need to install the M0 board before we can use it. Go to the Boards Manager. Install the Arduino SAMD boards

6 SODAQ Download URL Add the Sodaq download URLs Go to File Preferences Add the following url in the Additional Boards Manager URLs This URL is to download SODAQ Arduino compatible SAMD Boards and libraries.

7 Libraries Go to Sketch Include Library Manage Libraries Install the following libraries: Sodaq_wdt Sodaq_nbiot Sodaq_LPS22HB Sodaq_HTS221 Sodaq_UBlox_GPS

8 Examples Arduino has some nice built-in examples. Almost all examples are made for the AVR architecture, we today use the SAMD architecture. This doesn t say anything. Most examples will work. One thing you often need to change is the output Serial. AVR Serial.print will print to the USB SAMD SerialUSB.print will print to the USB On the Crowduino the Serial.print will print to D0/D1 who are connected to the shield. In the SODAQ examples the compiler will select the correct Serial for you.

9 Blink Connect the Crowduino with the usb cable to your pc. Open the blink example sketch Check if you still have the correct Board and Com port Buttons (left to right) Verify, checks if there are no errors in the code. Upload, upload the code to your board New, opens a new empty sketch Open, open a sketch Save, save this sketch Serial monitor, opens a window to debug your code. Use the upload button to send the blink sketch to the Arduino Leonardo. If you get the message Done uploading led L should blink now.

10 AT Commands Open the example sketch Serial Passthrough OR Use the command utility from Compile and upload the sketch to your board. Open the Serial Monitor Update the settings to Both NL/CR and 9600 baud (See image) The most important AT commands can be found here:

11 All Things Talk Now we can send data we want to view the data on a dashboard. For this course we use the dashboard from All Things Talk. Create your account Activate your account by the activation link in your inbox. Check your spam box if the is not received. Login to ATT New ground Create a new ground. A ground holds a set of devices, e.g. all NB-IoT devices, all devices. Connect your device. Select Sodaq NB-IoT shield Select the T-Mobile NL network Choose a Display name Activation Code, provided by Sodaq It s on the paper inside your Sodaq NB-IoT developers kit. Add an asset (Sensor) Display name: user friendly name name: sensor identifier, must be unique per sensor Profile Here you can choose the different kind of data types. Set this to string Create your device

12 Settings Open the settings menu by clicking the button in the right top corner. Go to: Device decoding Use custom, with the following json file: { "sense": [ { "asset": "your-asset-name", "value": { "byte": 0, "bytelength": 15, "type": "string" } } ] } Change your asset name to your own. Note: The bytelenght need to be longer or same size as the actual payload. Update the payload when you don t see any messages in ATT. Payload with lenght of 15.
