5 INTRODUCTION Dalet Desktop Prompter is a standalone application for radio broadcasting. The anchor will use the auto scroll to read text while he is on air, as is typically done on news shows. Since the prompter is a standalone application, there is no need for a client to be installed on the same machine. Installation Run the installation file DaletPlusDesktopPrompterSetup.exe. Enter the site name as pictured below. Click next and the prompter will be installed. The prompter s files will be located in C:\Program Files\Dalet\DaletPlus\Bin by default. The Prompter must be licensed like any other Dalet application. Actually the full start-up command line includes the site name: "C:\Program Files\Dalet\DaletPlus\Bin\DaletPlusDesktopPrompter.exe"-site RadioHD. That means, if during setup, you have provided an incorrect site name, you can fix it by modifying the start-up command line. Once the licensing is complete, click on the Prompter s icon to open it. A screen will appear. Enter your username and password as you would when using DaletPlus Client. Click OK. Dalet Desktop Prompter User Manual Dalet Page 5 of 10

6 The Prompter is divided into three sections: the Scroll Window, Playlist and Preview. Playlist Scroll Window Preview You can determine the relative sizes of the three sections. Put the mouse on the border between two sections and drag the border as you wish. When you view the prompter for the first time, dragging the border may be necessary to see the Playlist and Preview sections. Before you begin to work with the Prompter, configure the settings as you like. From the Tools menu, choose Display Settings. The appearing screen has three tabs, one for each section of the Prompter, as illustrated above. After each choice you make of a color or a printing format, you must click on the Set button, for the setting to be acknowledged. Clicking Set is only necessary for changes made inside the rectangle where the Set button is located. The LineNow is the line to be read at the moment on the Prompter, that s where the arrow will be. You can choose the width of the arrow and the number of lines still visible above it, in the screen pictured below. When you finish choosing the settings on all three tabs, click OK. 7 These are the buttons that are used to control the Prompter: Pause Stop Refresh Load Play Previous Item Next Item Clear The five buttons on the left control the scrolling movement. The next three perform basic functions that will be explained shortly; they can also be activated through the File menu. The control at the far right determines the scrolling speed. To begin using the Prompter, push the Load button. Choose the desired station, date and program on the screen that appears and click OK. These are programs planned on DaletPlus Client. The default time is the one closest to the current time. Be sure to consult the DaletPlus Core User manual regarding scheduling and broadcasting. 8 The program will be loaded into the prompter. Pressing the Clear button will erase it, clicking on Refresh will reload the last program that was loaded. Press play to start reading from the Prompter. Double click on an item in the Playlist window, in order to see it in the preview window. Dragging and Dropping You can drag and drop a title in the Playlist window to a different line in the same window, in order to reorganize the scheduling. However, as soon as you click on Refresh, the original structure will return. No action taken on the Prompter affects the Database or DaletPlus Client. Look carefully at the Playlist window and you will notice a structure built on hierarchy, denoted by the indent. The program name is closest to the edge, next are blocks and stories. These can contain audio and text. Therefore, when dragging and dropping an item, you must decide where exactly to drop it, either as the content of a container (program, block etc.) or as an equally ranking item. This is facilitated by arrows that appear when you are in the process of dragging an item. Control them by moving the mouse right and left while dragging the item. 9 A distance of 4 icons from the left edge 4 A distance of 3 icons from the left edge 3 Options Instead of using the buttons to control the Prompter, there are keyboard shortcuts. To see a complete list, choose Shortcuts from the Tools menu. Users of the Prompter will often want to use it on part of their screen while running other applications. This creates a certain inconvenience, since you need to mark the Prompter as the active window, and only then perform an action on it. This is especially problematic when using keyboard shortcuts, since they involve such common things as the spacebar. To deal with this, choose Options from the Tools menu. In the General tab, pick Use Global Hook. This will keep the Prompter active and ready to carry out your commands even when you are using other applications. It is strongly recommended to choose one or two of the other checkboxes to prevent clashes with the other running applications. If you choose Use CTRL Key, the shortcut involving the spacebar for instance, will only work if you hold down the Ctrl key at the same time. (If the Prompter is the active window, the spacebar will activate the scrolling even without the Ctrl key.) Dalet Desktop Prompter User Manual Dalet Page 9 of 10

10 In the General tab you can also choose to activate Auto Pause. This pauses the scrolling action automatically when reaching a story or audio item. The Notifications tab of the Options menu is used for updating purposes. If Use Notifications is checked, a change in the program in DaletPlus Client will result in the Refresh button turning red, thus notifying the Prompter s user of an update. The user can then press on Refresh to update the program. This is the recommended setting. Another possibility is automatic refresh. If chosen, a change in the Client will result in an immediate change in the Prompter without any notification. Page 10 of 10 Dalet Desktop Prompter User Manual Dalet
