General New product Smap3D Electrical With the release of Plant Design 2019 we introduce the new product Smap3D Electrical to the market. Smap3D Electrical - is an innovative, powerful and highly automated electrical engineering software especially for the requirements of drawing electrical schematics for circuit diagrams, control circuits, pneumatic and hydraulic diagrams and much more. It is regarded as easy to learn and convinces with its attractive price-performance ratio. In electrical engineering, the software can be used for the following specialist areas: Electrical planning Control engineering Control and automation technology Measuring and control technology Hydraulic system Pneumatics Power engineering Panel layout Tailor-made for your electrical projects In addition to the general functions, you will automatically find updated references between electrical symbols for the same component, automatic PLC functions, automatic line routing, intelligent renaming of components when copying, support of mounting correct drawings and overview plans, design verification, control of color codes for cable conductors, automatic replacement of symbols, automatic cable numbering, automatic generation of graphic terminal, cable and connection diagrams as well as automatic updating of project and page information. A project file can contain an unlimited number of pages. Symbol library The program provides you with the standardized IEC symbols for automation, installation, hydraulics/pneumatics and flow diagrams. You will also find symbols for PLCs, sensors and transmitters, intelligent building installations, computers and telecommunications, alarm systems and symbols for floor plans. Of course, you can also create and manage your own symbols. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 4

General Component databases In Smap3D Electrical you can create your own component databases. As an added benefit, several leading component manufacturers have provided their own component databases. In addition to general component information - such as part number, description, component supplier, and pricing - these databases contain both electrical and mechanical symbols for each component. With these databases, you can easily and securely create diagrams, mechanical drawings and lists. You will also receive your own database program together with the program. Smap3D Electrical can use Access databases directly and is also open for other database systems that support MDAC or ODBC. So, you can use all common database systems in connection with Smap3D Electrical - e.g. MS-SQL and Oracle. This allows the databases to become an integrated part of the company's database system. Automatic updating of all lists In Smap3D Electrical you can create your own parts lists (BOM), component lists, terminal lists, PLC lists, cable lists, labels, connection lists and tables of contents. These lists are automatically updated by the program. Overview drawings can also be part of the projects. The lists can be created both as pages in the projects and as user-defined files, which can be easily imported into other systems - for example as purchase order files. Sub drawings with article data and automatic project creation You can easily create sub drawings with article data for each individual symbol in the subdrawing. You can then drag the sub drawings directly into each of your projects. When you drag a sub drawing into a project, you can also select which set of model data you want to append to the symbols in the sub drawing. This is called module- and model-based insertion and drawing. Based on these sub drawings, you can automatically generate projects with thousands of pages. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 5

General Intelligent reference designations In Smap3D Electrical, you can automatically assign reference designations at project, page, area, and symbol levels. When a symbol is placed on a page or in an area with reference designations, the symbol automatically receives the repeat designations of the page or area (IEC 61346). You can then have lists filled out automatically according to the reference designations used. If you change a reference designation, the program can change this reference designation accordingly in the entire project. Intelligent chapters You can further structure your projects by using automation functions to create chapters. Tables of contents and lists can be created for each chapter or for the entire project. IEC standards, which are intelligently supported in all areas of the program, help to structure the documentation as easily as possible. You will automatically follow the current electrical standards effortlessly. Import/Export of DWG/DXF files Import and export of DWG/DXF files are supported. Of course, only the objects known in both programs are exchanged. Documents from e.g. Word or Excel can be inserted directly into the project pages via OLE. If, for example, you insert an AutoCAD document, you can draw on the inserted document in the software. Connection to PLC tools You can create an interface to external PLC tools. When importing from these PLC tools, the imported PLC data is corrected directly in the diagrams (of course under restrictive control) Simple dragging in of sub drawings In Smap3D Electrical this is referred to as "Module and Model Based Drag'n Draw". This function allows you to drag sub drawings from a window in the right screen area into the project and Automation places the selected sub drawing on the active project page. At the same time, the symbols in the sub drawing are assigned part data, depending on which model of the sub drawing you select. In addition, the sub drawing is automatically connected to the drawn diagram - e.g. with the electrical potentials on the page - and the symbols used are intelligently named by the program. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 6

General A revolutionary workflow You can start a new project by dragging a project template into the software. This project can contain the project pages you always need when starting a project, such as tables of contents, chapter dividers, schematic pages and selected list pages. If you later need additional diagram pages with electrical potentials already inserted, drag them into the project as well. Then drag the desired sub drawings directly to the project pages, where they are e.g. connected to the electrical potentials on the page, and the symbols are intelligently renamed. Automatic integration of article data Since the sub drawings are linked to article data, you simply update the project lists automatically and the documentation is now complete. All lists are now populated with item data, etc., and you can send the purchase requisitions to the component suppliers. This allows you to quickly get an overview of the total costs of the components during the tendering phase of a project, as these can be calculated automatically in the lists. Manage sub drawings in the library The first requirement is, of course, a library with the set of sub drawings that your company uses in its electrical documentation projects. After you have created the drawings once and then stored them in the library, you can then use them in all future projects linked to various model data. This handling of sub drawings and the possibility to store them intelligently in the library is a central development point in the software. In addition, it is of course very easy to copy sub diagrams from existing projects. Sub drawings and libraries included in delivery At present, 48 component manufacturers (ABB, AEG, Bosch, Brodersen, Danfoss, Dehn, Hager, Mitsubishi, Moeller, Phoenix, Contact, Siemens and many more) have created component databases for Smap3D Electrical which contain component data as well as electrical and mechanical symbols for all components in the databases. In addition, Siemens and Mitsubishi have created selected sub drawings including attached part data that you can drag directly into your diagrams. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 7

General New product Smap3D Bending Simulation With the release of Plant Design 2019, we bring the new product Smap3D Bending Simulation to the market. With this software solution, plant designers can perform feasibility studies as part of the design phase. This is where design and production are networked to form the overall process optimized and accelerated. The bendability of tube parts is checked quickly and easily in the background and, if necessary, problematic areas are highlighted. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 9

General Here, in addition to the geometry of the machine (CAD model), the necessary kinematics to produce a bending component. The collision between tube and machine body/bottom/wall/other components is checked, which would make bendability impossible. A quick change in the design simplifies the production process and verifies, that the tube bending components can be manufactured as they were designed. 12 General Licensing and product licenses in version 2019 necessary With Smap3D Plant Design 2019, the licensing software (License Server Manager and License Client Manager) must also be updated to version 2019 of the CAD partner licensing. For existing license server installations of CAD Partner Licensing 2016, the setup of Plant Design 2019 must be installed in License Server mode. This will update an existing installation from License Server Manager 2016 ( xxx.x) with a service pack to version The updated License Server Manager 2019 version number will then be xx. All local License Client Manager 2016, should be uninstalled together with the Plant Design 2016 or 2017 applications before running the new Plant Design 2019 setup for the client installations. If active maintenance contracts exist, you will receive new product licenses for version 2019 within the next weeks together with the download links for the new software package of Smap3D Plant Design What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 12

New in Smap3D P&ID New in Smap3D P&ID New subfolders in the P&ID data folder With the installation of P&ID 2019, two new and additional subfolders are created in the path of the P&ID data folder. These folders are named DATALISTS and FORMATFILES. The DATALISTS folder mainly contains the value lists for symbol data fields (*.SDD), which we deliver in the standard symbol library with the software. In addition, this folder is now the new default location for the configuration file for user-defined line styles and for a prepared value list for line names. The FORMATFILES folder is now the default location for format files to Lists to file, Export to PDF and more. Up to and including P&ID 2017, the contents of these folders were installed into the Smap3D P&ID installation directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\cad-partner\smap3d Plant Design xxx), which occasionally caused problems with changes with restricted user permissions. 14 New in Smap3D P&ID New formula editor for line data fields Due to improvement requests regarding TAG numbering for lines, we have implemented a formula editor for line data fields with P&ID Basic possibilities of use Basically, this new formula editor can be used individually for all line data fields defined in a system. With this formula editor we enable a P&ID user to automatically fill in certain line data field values, composed of values from other data fields available in the project. You can access the new formula editor in menu Settings > Text/Symbol defaults > Line data fields. After selecting the line data field (from list field) for which a formula should be created, click the button fx (Function for data field). The dialog shown appears. In it you can create the desired formula for automatically filling the selected data field based on one or more values from other data fields. In Properties list field, the standard line data fields Line, Size, Article and Spec can be selected for the desired formula. In the Data fields list field, you can select all line data fields currently defined in the system for the required formula. In the column Static Text you can define any fixed text components for the desired formula (e.g. as separator for text blocks). What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 14

New in Smap3D P&ID IMPORTANT: If a data field has already been used as part of a formula, you can no longer define a separate formula for it. If you try to do this, a warning message appears. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 15

New in Smap3D P&ID New basic definition in P&ID 2019 for line TAG numbering Apart from the basic possibilities for a user, the formula editor has already been introduced for an improved TAG numbering experience of lines. After installing P&ID 2019 and using the new default settings (no existing configuration/workstation folder or PCSCAD.INI is used from previous versions), a new line data field named TAG exists in the system This data field was created in addition to the existing ones and defined with a formula. In the sample formula below the line TAG is composed of four different single values All sample projects provided by us (by default in the folder C:\Smap3D P&ID\PROJECT) have been updated to use this new TAG on the lines. As a result, you can see how the single text TAG (visible line data field) is composed of four single text values. Changes to the individual values are of course automatically transferred to the entire text. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 16

New in Smap3D P&ID New/changed default position for visible line data texts Due to the new possibilities with the Formula editor for line data fields and the new Basic definition for line TAG numbering, we had to change the basic settings for the default position of visible line data texts. Up to P&ID 2017: The standard texts for Line name, Size, Article no. and Pipe Spec are always automatically and visibly placed in the center of the longest line segment. User-defined line data fields (in tab Line data fields) if manually switched to visible, are placed at the start of the 1st drawn segment. Up to this version, user-defined line data fields were only intended as additional information that is not normally displayed on the drawing. In the above-mentioned enhancements, we had to implement a new uniform behavior. Starting with P&ID 2019, all types of visible line data texts (standard and user-defined) are now always placed in the middle of the first drawn line segment. See following picture. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 17

New in Smap3D P&ID 1. To change this default position, the new Text Anchor function is available in the context menu for each line/polyline. 2. To do this, the individual line segment of the polyline must be selected, on which the text is now to be placed and aligned. 3. Then open the context menu (right mouse button) and click on Text Anchor. As result, all visible line data texts are now placed in the center of the selected line segment. With the Text Anchor function, you can always individually determine the line segment best suited for the text placement as required. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 18

New in Smap3D P&ID New line priority for crossing lines In previous P&ID versions, the representation of crossing lines function could only be used horizontal or vertical for crossing lines. This setting was previously only stored in a central INI file and could only be changed inconveniently by the user. Making this much more user-friendly with P&ID 2019 was the reason for the introduction of line priorities. Line Priorities work as an extension to the active representation of crossing lines setting so that a user can now fully customize the display of crossing unconnected lines. However, if the crossing lines function is turned off (No gap setting), line priority definitions have no effect. Line priorities can only be set on exiting lines in their Line article data. In the General tab, there is the new entry Priority. There is a new list field with the values High, Normal and Low. Select a value and click OK to assign this priority to the active line What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 19

New in Smap3D P&ID Depending on the value, you can now individually influence the display of the line intersection The line with the lower priority always gets the representation for the line crossing (Gap or Gap with arc). If crossing lines share the same priority, the previous setting (generally horizontal or vertical) will take effect again. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 20

New in Smap3D P&ID Inheritance of pipe spec information from line to symbol connection point Previously, the name of the pipe spec from a line was automatically written to the Spec field in the Component data of a symbol when connected to a symbol. Since this was not correct for all conceivable applications, we have changed this and the value for the pipe spec of a line is now written into the field Function of the connection point to which this line is connected. This new default behavior applies from version 2019 for newly created lines. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 21

New in Smap3D P&ID Enhancements in the tool Edit symbols data fields The existing tool Edit symbol data fields has been significantly extended in P&ID New sequence of tabs/functions On the one hand the order of the registers has been reorganized, on the other hand two new registers have been added. The new order of the tabs should support the user: with, starting from the left, the pure user functions (Edit contents and Edit visibility) for changes in the active project, with Edit definitions a kind of general function for users and administrators in the middle, to then use Symbol library editor, Edit sequence and Settings for pure administration to provide intended function. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 22

New in Smap3D P&ID New tab "Edit visibility" This new tab contains functions for customizing the visibility of symbol data fields of placed symbols in the active project. The Edit visibility tab has been developed as a pure user function, since it can only be used to make changes to the active project. Use is in the following order: 1. Click the Get data from project button. This displays the current structure of the active project in the Pages window. 2. Select the desired page in the Pages window. This will display in the Symbols window all symbols contained on this page with their name (TAG). 3. Select the desired symbol in the Symbols window. This displays all symbol data fields available in this symbol in the Data fields window. 4. Select the desired symbol data field by double-clicking or by clicking the Add data field button (right arrow) in the Data fields window. This transfers the selected data field to the Data fields to be updated window. 5. This procedure (point 4) can be repeated as desired for each existing symbol data field. 6. In the Data fields to be changed window, the desired change is then set in the preceding box. If checked, this data field is set to visible. Without a check mark, this data field is set to invisible. 7. In Scope you can still set whether the following change is to be carried out to the Entire project (all symbols on all pages), or only on the current page. 8. By clicking Apply the defined change is carried out. With this new function you can very quickly control the visibility of existing symbol data fields as desired, without having to set this for each individual symbol as before. 25 New in Smap3D P&ID New tab "Symbol library editor" This new tab contains functions and options for mass processing of symbols in the symbol library. The Symbol library editor has been developed as a purely administrative tool, since it does not make any changes to active projects and diagrams. As the name of the Edit symbols data fields tool already says, the main task of the Symbol library editor is to create and maintain symbol data fields in symbols. In this case, however, only for the symbols in the symbol library! Use is in the following order: 1. In the left column Select symbols the Source directory must be set. This will display the current symbol content in the window below. 2. Select the symbols to be changed/edited by setting a check mark. Note the context menu. This allows you to quickly select many/all symbols at once. 3. Definition of the symbol data fields in the middle column that are to be written to the selected symbols. You can use the File button to load a specifically prepared text file or the Symbol defaults button to display all symbol data fields existing in the active system. 4. Selection of the symbol data fields for the change, by setting a check mark. Note the context menu. This allows you to quickly select many/all symbols at once. The options Create data fields visible and Delete existing data fields are available below the window. This can be used as required. 5. Definition of the Editor options for the change. The most important setting here is to specify the target directory. All other options can be activated individually depending on the editing objective. 6. By clicking on Apply, the defined changes are carried out. ALWAYS new.sym files will be created. Depending on the setting, you can have the system overwrite the source files directly, but there is NO UNDO. Theoretically, only the editor options can be used here for changes without making changes to the symbol data fields. This depends on the definitions in the middle column (point 3 and 4). What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 25

New in Smap3D P&ID With this new function you can perform extremely fast an user-defined mass processing of symbols in the symbol library. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 26

New in Smap3D P&ID Extended sorting options for lists In P&ID 2019, we have also made two important enhancements to sorting in lists. Both new features described below are available in the list settings for list pages in a PRO file as well as for lists to external files. Sorting according to various data fields Until now, lists could only be sorted according to the existing database fields (from the P&ID database). Some functional enhancements of the previous versions can now also be used for list sorting. As a basis for sorting (type), Symboldatafields and the Name of an object group can now also be used. After selecting the respective type, the corresponding information is available in the Value list box. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 27

New in Smap3D P&ID Sorting Ascending and Descending With the new option Sort descending, lists can now also be sorted alphanumerically in ascending (default) or descending order. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 28

New in Smap3D P&ID New module List compare The new module List compare in P&ID 2019 is now available as an optional module to be installed. This module was developed to compare different states, versions, revisions, etc. of a project in the form of a list evaluation. The list types Component list and Part list are available for a comparison. The difference between the defined projects is evaluated based on these types. As comparison options you can compare the 1 against the 2 or vice versa. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 29

New in Smap3D P&ID The result is an Excel table in which the differences (according to the previous definitions) are listed. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 30

New in Smap3D P&ID Further news In addition, Smap3D P&ID 2019 includes the following new features. Workstation folder in subfolder Smap3D P&ID The path to the workstation folder in the user profile has been extended by a folder level. Previously, this folder was in the path C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Roaming\PCSCHEMATIC\WorkStation From version 2019 the path is as follows C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Roaming\PCSCHEMATIC\Smap3D P&ID\WorkStation Now an additional folder with the name Smap3D P&ID has been added. Function "Replace" also for line texts The Replace function now also supports all types of line texts. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 31

New in Smap3D P&ID New setting to lock manual value entry for symbol data fields with data lists As new settings for Text/Symbol defaults for Symbol data fields, you can now lock manual value entry for symbol data fields with value/data lists. If the button Values are locked to datalists is activated (lock symbol closed), this locks the manual entry of values for symbol data fields for a user in diagrams, if prepared value lists (SDD files) exist for it. A user can only select the values from the prepared lists but cannot enter his own values manually. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 32

New in Smap3D P&ID Copy in Component data also copies symbol data field values With P&ID 2019, all existing symbol data field values are now copied to the clipboard when copying in the Component Data dialog. Previously, only the values of the four main information fields were copied. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 33

New in Smap3D P&ID New parameter in PCSCAD.INI to control the length of text leader line With P&ID 2017 the function Text leader was added. The length of the line on the text was fixed at 2.5 mm. With P&ID 2019, a new parameter was added to PCSCAD.INI, which can now be used to configure this length on the text. The entry is in the area [SmapData] and reads: [SmapData] TextLeaderStartLength=2500 The standard value is 2500, which correspond to 2.5 mm. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 34

New in Smap3D P&ID Link to Unit drawing available in PDF format Customers who work a lot with unit drawings in Smap3D P&ID had the wish that the direct link from the placeholder symbol to the unit page (which is always there in P&ID) should also be available in the exported PDF. We have now fulfilled this wish in P&ID For all P&ID projects exported with P&ID 2019 in which there are links between symbols and unit drawings, this link is now also available in PDF format. Simply click on the corresponding symbol (as in P&ID) and open the context menu. There you will find the function Go to unit which will also jump directly to the linked page in the exported PDF. 36 New Smap3D Parts Management New Smap3D Parts Management Parts Management 2019 replaces PDM 9.6 Smap3D Parts Management 2019 completely replaces the old PDM 9.6 standard parts management system. The new Smap3D Parts Management 2019 applications are all pure 64-bit applications. The old 9.6 applications have been completely revised and updated to Microsoft.Net Framework 4.6. The user interface of all Parts Management applications is modern and consistent with the Plant Design applications. The names of the new single applications are: Parts Management Administrator (replaces the PDM Wizard) Database Administrator (replaces the DB Administrator) Part Finder (replaces the PartFinder 9.6) Part Keeper (replaces the PartKeeper 9.6) Part Factory (replaces the PartFactory 9.6) What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 36

New Smap3D Parts Management Separation of language settings for user interface and database One of the most important general changes in Parts Management 2019 for administrators is probably the separation of the language settings for user interface and database. In the old PDM 9.6, these language settings were permanently linked to each other and for a standard parts database it was necessary to define and prepare in advance exactly those languages in which the user interface would later be used. This often led to unwanted restrictions or to a considerable increase in administration effort. By separating these language settings, the database language and the language of the user interface can now be set individually and easily according to the respective requirements. A database with a single language setting can now be operated with all available language settings for the user interface without any additional effort! No more administrator rights necessary As a further general innovation (compared to PDM 9.6), the need to operate the Parts Management Administrator and Database Administrator applications only with administrator rights has been removed. Now it is sufficient to have a Windows user account with standard user permissions. For access control, the Parts Management Administrator and Database Administrator applications are now both password protected. Furthermore, configurations and settings made in Parts Management Administrator and Database Administrator are no longer written to the Windows Registry, but only to configuration files stored in the Windows file system (ProgramData and User profile/appdata/roaming). What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 37

New Smap3D Parts Management The most important new features in Parts Management Administrator Compared to the old PDM Wizard. Content and functions cleaned up In the old PDM Wizard 9.6 there were many buttons, functions and settings due to the program history, which were no longer needed for a pure standard part management. The new Parts Management Administrator has been cleaned up and reduced to the essentials. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 38

New Smap3D Parts Management Database language independent Due to the separation of the dependency between DB and UI language, for a new database only the language has to be selected for which one wants to have the standard part representation in the Part Finder (categories and features). Depending on the international standard system (e.g. GOST, CNS, BS, JIS, etc.) from which you use the supplied standard part libraries, it may still be necessary to set the standard language to English. Not in all available Smap3D standard part libraries from all international standard systems, all languages are deposited (e.g. in the parts of the Chinese standard system CNS no German language information is deposited). You could not import such standard parts into a database set to German only! In such cases we recommend setting the database standard language to English, since this language is generally stored in all standard part libraries supplied by Smap3D. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 39

New Smap3D Parts Management Write part name for other languages as user-defined property to parts With PDM 9.6 it was only possible to have a single part information (part name) written into a single property of a generated standard part (e.g. for parts list evaluations in SOLIDWORKS). The value of the property was then only written in the language with which the standard part was generated (e.g. user interface set to French, so the value in the property was also the French part name). At international companies with a central database and many different users with different user interface languages, a mix of standard parts and their properties could occur. For example, it could happen that, in an English parts list, French-language property values from standard parts might appear and vice versa. For this reason, with Parts Management 2019 the information part name is now generally only written with the database standard language into the defined property of a generated standard part. To be able to fulfill the requirements for country and language specific parts lists in addition, it is now possible to have all further language information stored in the Smap3D standard part database for part names written to further user-defined properties in addition. It is necessary to activate these languages in addition to the standard language as additional languages in the database. Parts Management can only create the languages available in a database as additional user-defined properties. Depending on the country and language, these user-defined languages can then be used for evaluation in SOLIDWORKS parts lists. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 40

New Smap3D Parts Management New option to always quit the Part Finder application completely In PDM 9.6, due to the program history, there was a default behavior in which the PartFinder continued to run as a process in the Task Manager even after closing the application. This default behavior still exists in Parts Management but can now be influenced and changed with the new option Exit application on close. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 41

New Smap3D Parts Management The most important changes in the Database Administrator Compared to old DB Administrator. Content and functions cleaned up Also, in the old DB Administrator 9.6 there were buttons, functions and settings due to the program history, which were no longer needed for a pure standard part management. The new Database Administrator has been cleaned up and reduced to the essentials. Preview and filter function The preview (3D) and preview 1 (2D) known from the PartFinder have been added as new, additional elements in the new user interface of the Database Administrator. These previews are now also available for the administration of database entries. Another new element is a general filter function for all columns in the table view. This new filter function allows the database administrator to filter (even several columns simultaneously) specific values and contents. With this we support an even simpler and more targeted administration of the database contents. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 42

New Smap3D Parts Management Improved Standard Parts Assistant For adding and registering your own new standard parts in the Smap3D standard parts database, some very helpful extensions have been added to the Standard Parts Assistant. Access to the material table from SOLIDWORKS If a characteristic with the name Material is selected or defined by the user in step 4 (selection of category, characteristics and user-defined properties) of the standard part assistant, in the following step 5 (input of the values for parts, characteristics and properties) the direct access to the material tables from SOLIDWORKS is obtained. By clicking on the corresponding cell, one receives the corresponding list field with the entries from the SOLIDWORKS material table. By selecting and double-clicking on the desired entry, it is automatically populated as the value for the respective cell. In addition to using the selected material name as characteristic values for Smap3D Parts Management, this material information is also written to the new files as file property. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 43

New Smap3D Parts Management Selection of the storage location for the new parts Whereas in the standard parts assistant of version 9.6 in step 7 (write part information) all new parts and variants were always saved fully automatically in a defined storage path and folder (Custom_parts), this is more transparent and far more user-friendly in version If the files selected in step 2 (Selection of parts) are already stored in a valid substructure of the selected standard parts folder, then (unlike in 9.6) no copies of these files are created, but the original files are updated at their existing storage location and extended with the Smap3D standard parts properties. 2. If the files selected in step 2 (Selection of parts) are not saved in a valid substructure of the set standard parts folder, copies are created of them, but their storage location can be influenced via the dialog shown below: o o Yes, enables the selection of a desired storage path (as a substructure of the set standard parts folder) for the new parts. No, saves the newly created parts automatically in the fixed folder Custom_parts What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 44

New Smap3D Parts Management Improvements for the function "Extend part(s)" To extend parts already registered in the database to make additional variants with additional information and features, the function Extend part(s) already existed in the old DB Administrator. This function has also been extended in the new database administrator and made even more userfriendly. Access to the material table of SOLIDWORKS Also in this function, the material tables of SOLIDWORKS can be accessed during the corresponding step (entry of the values for the additional characteristics) as described above for Standard Part Assistant. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 45

New Smap3D Parts Management Influencing the file name for the new variants Unlike in version 9.6 (where the file name of the variant was only incremented with serial numbers), a user with version 2019 can influence the pattern for part names in the step Edit patterns for new part names how the part names and file names of the new variants should be named. The new characteristic values for the name extension are used as standard. With several new characteristics, you can even adjust the sequence of these values for the file name here. The expected result for the file name and part name is then displayed in step 6. New storage location for the new variants Unlike version 9.6 (where all new variants were always saved in the Custom_parts folder), version 2019 stores all variants with their new descriptive filenames in the same folder as the original variants. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 46

New Smap3D Parts Management New function "Remove from database and delete" The Remove from database and delete function can only be applied to physically generated standard parts. If variants are not generated from parent parts, this button remains inactive (gray). With this new function, the following steps are performed automatically: 1. The database entries for the selected parts are deleted from the database. 2. In addition, the files are physically deleted from their storage location at the same time. Enhancement of the function "Remove from database" In version 2019, an extension has been implemented for the Remove from database function to prevent unintentional re-registration of the part in the database. If this function is applied to physically generated standard parts, the following steps are performed: 1. The database entries for the selected parts are deleted from the database. 2. The new user-defined property IgnoreOnDBImport with the value true is written into the selected parts. This user-defined property prevents a new, possibly inadvertent reading/registration into the Smap3D standard parts database. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 47

New Smap3D Parts Management Enhancement of functions to standard part priorities Compared to the old DB Administrator 9.6, the options for defining priorities (for preferred series management) for registered standard parts have been significantly expanded. New function "Set category priority" With the new function Set category priority it is now possible to set a priority for an entire category (with subcategories). For all parts contained in the structure below, the selected priority is set at the same time. Set priority for more selected files Furthermore, it is now possible to assign a new priority to a multiple selection of parts with the function Set priority. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 48

New Smap3D Parts Management New function "Search" The new Search function allows the user to search for parts whose part name contains the specified string. After clicking the Search button (magnifying glass), a corresponding part (within the respective category) is selected. The next click (or Enter) takes you to the next matching part. If you click on the Search button while holding down the Ctrl key, you switch to the next category that contains matching parts. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 49

New in Smap3D Piping New in Smap3D Piping 3D Piping sketch functions The most important and helpful new feature in Piping 2019 are the new functions for creating pipeline routes as well as for drawing and sketching the required pipeline routes. In all previous versions, the creation and manipulation of 3D piping paths in the form of 3D sketches feature had to be done 100% with native SOLIDWORKS functions. Only after these paths existed in SOLIDWORKS could Smap3D Piping be used to generate the pipeline in your 3D model. This was the same for changes to existing pipelines. Changes in the route always had to be carried out with native drawing tools in SOLIDWORKS before Smap3D Piping could react to these changes with the contained automation. This limitation, between the manual creation of the piping route in SOLIDWORKS and the automatic creation of the 3D pipeline with Smap3D Piping, has been removed in Piping New toolbar with sketch functions Every user of previous versions should recognize the new commands in the Piping toolbar after starting Piping What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 50

New in Smap3D Piping Create route Create route is the function for creating new pipeline subassemblies and routes with Smap3D Piping. This function is usually started in the main assembly where you want to create the pipelines as subassemblies. After clicking on Create route, a prompt to the user is started, which then carries out various steps automatically: 1. Question about the structure for the new route (in active assembly or in new subassembly)? 2. If new subassembly, then the question about the name of the name of the new subassembly? 3. The new subassembly is created automatically. 4. The system automatically switches to the new subassembly (in Edit assembly mode), 5. It automatically switches to the Edit mode of a new 3D sketch. Create route automatically generate important elementary steps in a single function, which had to be clicked individually and manually by the user before Piping Auto route Auto route is one of the drawing functions for new pipeline routes. Auto Route should always be used if you want the system to suggest a possible path for the pipeline route after clicking on a start- and destination point (geometries of existing parts/connections). If you want to draw the entire route yourself, Auto Route is not the right function for this. In such cases, the Manual route function should be used. The Auto route button only becomes active if you have previously switched to the edit mode of a route (3D sketch) with Create route (or Edit route). 1. After clicking on Auto route, the prompt for selecting the pipe specification (with which the 3D pipeline is to be created) starts first. Once the desired pipe spec has been selected (and any existing Non-unique components have been determined), the drawing function is displayed. 2. The function Route line of SOLIDWORKS is automatically activated. 3. One after the other, the start and destination point of the new pipe routing must be clicked. 4. With the available options the proposed route can still be adapted. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 51

New in Smap3D Piping 5. At the end of this drawing command, the proposed route must be accepted. Only then is this route really drawn as a 3D sketch. After Auto route is complete, you will still be in the edit mode of 3D sketch. Further functions for the adjustment of the piping route are available in the Smap3D Piping toolbar (e.g. Manual route, Smart Dimension or Split line). If required, native SOLIDWORKS functions of the 3D sketch mode can also be used. After closing/exiting the 3D sketch, the 3D pipeline is generated automatically by Smap3D Piping. This is done by default in Detail Engineering mode or, if configured accordingly, in Basic Engineering mode. Manual route Manual route is the other drawing function for new pipeline routes. Manual route should be used if the suggestions from the Auto route function do not correspond to the desired results. With this function, all required 3D lines must be drawn by the user. The Manual route button only becomes active if you have previously switched to the edit mode of a route (3D sketch) with Create route (or Edit route). 1. After clicking on Manual route, the prompt for selecting the pipe specification (with which the 3D pipeline is to be created) starts first. Once the desired pipe spec has been selected (and any existing Non-unique components have been determined), the drawing function is displayed. 2. The function Line of SOLIDWORKS is automatically activated. 3. 3D line for 3D line, the desired route must be drawn. After Manual route is complete, you will still be in the edit mode of 3D sketch. Further functions for the adjustment of the piping route are available in the Smap3D Piping toolbar (e.g. Smart Dimension or Split line). What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 52

New in Smap3D Piping Edit route Edit route is the function for editing existing routes/pipelines that were previously created with the Create route function. The Edit route button is only active if a pipeline assembly is active and an existing pipeline path is selected in Piping structure tree. 1. After clicking on Edit route, the software automatically switches to the corresponding 3D sketch (edit mode) for the selected pipeline path. No need for the user to search for the correct 3D sketch and to activate it in the SOLIDWORKS structure tree. 2. In edit mode the most important functions (Auto route, Manual route, Smart Dimension and Split line) now available in the Piping toolbar. If required, native SOLIDWORKS functions of the 3D sketch mode can also be used. 3. Depending on the scope of the changings, an update or recalculation of the 3D pipeline is carried out automatically with Smap3D Piping after closing/exiting the 3D sketch. The pipe specification defined in Create route is always automatically used in order to update all changes and extensions made in the pipe route in absolute conformity with this definition. Smart Dimension The Smart Dimension button only becomes active if you have previously switched to the edit mode of a route (3D sketch) with Create route (or Edit route). 1. Click on it to activate the function Smart Dimension of SOLIDWORKS. 2. After clicking on an existing 3D line element, a dimension can be set for it. 3. This 3D line element can be controlled by entering a desired length value. The purpose of this button is to provide the user with this important function for dimensioning 3D sketch elements directly in the Piping toolbar. Switching between different menus and ribbons in SOLIDWORKS should thus be prevented or reduced. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 53

New in Smap3D Piping Split line The Split line button only becomes active if you have previously switched to the edit mode of a route (3D sketch) with Create route (or Edit route). Split line is used to split individually drawn 3D lines and to create two collinear line elements from them. For the new Remove/Adapt pipe function, it is important from Piping 2019 that physically divided pipelines of all types (e.g. branches, conc. reductions, etc.) also have physically split 3D lines. 1. Click on it to activate the function Sketch tools > Split entities of SOLIDWORKS. 2. By clicking on a 3D line, it is divided at the clicked point and you get as result two connected collinear lines. 3. The split point can now be used as the starting point for a new routing (branch pipeline), or the new lines can be individually dimensioned with Smart Dimension if required. The purpose of this button is to provide the user with this important function for dividing 3D line elements directly in the Piping toolbar. Switching between different menus and ribbons in SOLIDWORKS should thus be prevented or reduced. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 54

New in Smap3D Piping New function "Remove/Adapt pipe" The new Remove/Adapt pipe function only works in conjunction with the new sketch functions. However, this function is not used when sketching and not in active 3D sketch edit mode, but in the assembly on already generated pipes. Before version 2019, the individual steps described below always had to be carried out manually by the user, which was time-consuming. The purpose of the new function is to support the user efficiently and automatically during pipeline planning with these very frequently necessary changes (removing pipes or adapt their length). The Remove/Adapt pipe button is only active if an already generated pipe had been previously selected in the working window or the Piping structure tree. After clicking on Remove/Adapt pipe you will be asked which action you want to perform: Remove pipe Adapt pipe length What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 55

New in Smap3D Piping Remove pipe With Remove pipe automatically: 1. The selected pipe is measured (pipe length). 2. The corresponding 3D sketch route (corresponding 3D line segment) is measured and dimensioned. 3. The length value for the line segment is calculated so that no pipe fits between the fittings/components. 4. The calculated length value is controlled by the automatic set dimension and thus the 3D sketch is changed. 5. Finally, the whole pipeline is updated. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 56

New in Smap3D Piping Adapt pipe length With this option, the user must enter the desired length of the pipe. After that, with Adapt pipe length automatically: 1. The selected pipe is measured (pipe length). 2. The corresponding 3D sketch route (corresponding 3D line segment) is measured and dimensioned. 3. The length value for the line segment is calculated so that the resulting pipe between the fittings/components has exactly the entered length. 4. The calculated length value is controlled by the automatic set dimension and thus the 3D sketch is changed. 5. Finally, the whole pipeline is updated. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 57

New in Smap3D Piping New function "Split route" The new Split route function only works in conjunction with the new sketch functions. Split route is different from Split line, not used when sketching and not in active 3D sketch edit mode. This function was developed to do more on already generated pipelines than just divide the sketch element. The purpose of this new function is to support the user efficiently and automatically in the complete, logical splitting of a route on an existing component. Before version 2019, the individual steps described below had to be carried out largely manually by the user. The Split route button is only active if you have selected an existing pipeline path in the Piping structure tree beforehand. After clicking on Split route, a prompt appears. After selecting the component and the coordinate system on which the route is to be divided, the automation can be started. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 58

New in Smap3D Piping Then you will be asked which part of the previously selected pipe route should be changed. After this confirmation, the user must specify the desired diameter (or a different pipe spec and diameter) for route splitting and modification. Then all further steps are carried out automatically and the pipeline is changed according to the definition. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 59

New in Smap3D Piping New editing mode "Basic Engineering" For new pipelines created with the new sketch functions of Smap3D Piping 2019, the Basic Engineering mode can be used when creating 3D pipelines. Basic Engineering is a new and optional editing mode and is only used if the corresponding basic settings in the Plant Design Administrator have been changed accordingly. By default, Smap3D Piping always works in detail engineering mode, as in previous versions. The purpose of this new editing mode is to reduce generation times in the early or still very vague stage of a 3D pipeline design by generating only 3D basic pipes on the drawn pipeline paths/routes. All detailed calculations, such as the placement of the relevant fittings and pipeline components, are completely omitted in Basic Engineering. This does not only reduce the generation times for the first generation of 3D pipelines. Also, with changes at the pipeline paths (3D sketch), due to the substantially smaller complexity all updates at the 3D model will be accomplished faster. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 60

New in Smap3D Piping All necessary definitions and parameters for the basic pipes must be stored in the same pipe specification as the one used for detail engineering: Pipe diameter and wall thickness for a basic pipe are taken from the 3D standard part defined for detail engineering. For the bending radius of a Basic pipe, the definition of the bending radius from the respective diameter of the pipe spec is used. For the color of the basic pipe, the definition in the Global scope of a pipe spec is used. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 61

New in Smap3D Piping If you want to switch from Basic Engineering to Detail Engineering at a later point in time, you can do this after selecting one (or more) pipe paths in the Piping structure tree via the Piping context menu and the function Switch to detail Engineering. As a result, the detailed 3D pipelines with all fittings and pipeline parts are now generated automatically, which is carried out by default without the basic engineering always immediately after the drawing of the pipeline route. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 62

New in Smap3D Pipe Specification Editor New in Smap3D Pipe Specification Editor Conversion of pipe specifications from standard parts management PartFinder9.6 to Parts Management 2019 Due to the change to the new standard parts management system Parts Management 2019 (replaces PDM 9.6), it may be necessary to convert pipe specifications from Plant Design 2017 or before when opening them in the Pipe Specification Editor to the new standard parts management system. By default, this conversion is already performed fully automatically for all pipe specifications in the defined pipe specification folder when Plant Design 2019 is installed (in mode Existing Data and Configuration). However, if you have installed in a different mode, or you open an old pipe specification from outside the defined pipe spec folder, the following message can be displayed appear After upgrading to Plant Design 2019 with Parts Management 2019, you should always answer Yes to this message. Only by clicking on Yes and then saving the pipe specification, it will be fully converted to the new version What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 63

New in Smap3D Pipe Specification Editor New field "Name" for insulations When defining insulation for a pipe diameter, only the necessary parameters for creating the insulation in 3D were queried up to now. As soon as different insulations were needed for the same pipe diameter, it was difficult for the user to differentiate between the possible insulations. As of version 2019, it is now possible to define a name for an insulation in the pipe class When the user generates an insulation (if there are several possibilities for the same diameter), the name of the insulation is now displayed in the corresponding dialog. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 64

New in Smap3D Pipe Specification Editor New order of commands in the context menu In the previous versions the commands in the context menu were arranged rather arbitrarily. We have now tried to make this order more user-friendly. New function "Refresh data" With this function it is possible to update the text information stored in the pipe specification (part name, category and file name) from the used standard parts and the active standard parts provider. This information is always generated and saved when the pipe specification is created with the active language and standard parts provider settings. This function can be very useful when dealing with pipe specifications created using a different language, or if changes have been made to the standard parts in the standard parts management after the pipe spec creation. Previously, the entries in the pipe spec were always saved as they were when they were created. With the new function, these can now be updated as required. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 65

New in the P&ID to 3D connection (P&ID To-Do List) New in the P&ID to 3D connection (P&ID To-Do List) To-Do list supports the new sketch functions From version 2019, the context menu provides direct access to the new sketching functions, adapted to the workflow for working with the To-Do list. This functions are available: Create route Edit route Auto route Manual route The statement adapted to the workflow for working with the To-Do list means, that for all these functions from the context menu of the To-Do list, the necessary information on the pipe spec and diameter is automatically read and transferred from the P&ID project. Thus, when working with these context menu functions, there will be no query for the pipe specification and diameter. However, depending on the pipe spec, the 3D user may have to determine any non-unique components that may be present. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 66

New in the P&ID to 3D connection (P&ID To-Do List) Enhancement of the function "Place 3D model to CAD" In the previous versions of the P&ID To-Do list, 3D files could only be placed directly in the 3D working window using this function, if they were linked to the 3D model in the pipe specification used by the P&ID_ID (article number from P&ID database). If this was not the case, the defined standard part provider was opened, and a user had to manually select the required 3D model and place it in the working window. Due to customer requests we have extended the previous standard behavior. As of version 2019, it is possible to define the necessary link between P&ID article number and 3D model (storage location and file name) for all types of parts already in the P&ID database. In a new P&ID database field named PathToModel, the storage path and file name of the 3D model can be defined for each component (article number). If the function Place 3D model in CAD is now executed in the P&ID To-Do list, the To-Do list first checks whether the information PathToModel is available in the P&ID database: 1. If yes, the respective 3D file will be placed automatically and directly into the 3D working window. 2. If not, the system checks whether the 3D model link is available via the pipe specification (P&ID_ID) and automatically places the 3D model in the 3D working window. 3. If this is not the case, the defined standard part provider is opened as before so that the user can manually select the 3D model from there. Change of the automatic naming for "branch lines" In the previous versions of the P&ID To-Do list, branch lines were always automatically displayed with information from P&ID and the fixed text suffix _DN. When assigning pipelines from the To-Do list to 3D piping, the pipeline paths were named exactly with this name. Since the text suffix _DN is not used everywhere internationally, we have removed this automatic text addition. Starting with version 2019, only existing information from P&ID together with count numbers are used. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 67

New in the P&ID to 3D connection (P&ID To-Do List) Smap3D P&ID demo mode now fully supported In the previous versions of the P&ID To-Do list, when working with Smap3D P&ID in demo mode (without active license), annoying messages could occur if options were activated in the To-Do list that required write access to the P&ID file. As a new enhancement the To-Do list can automatically detect the demo mode of Smap3D P&ID on startup and any messages due to active options in the To-Do list are automatically suppressed. Now the user doesn't have to worry if the options are disabled or not. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 68

New in Smap3D Isometric New in Smap3D Isometric New option "Additional PCF files" The new option Additional PCF files have been added in response to multiple customer requests. This can be found in the Isometric options, tab Templates. If this option is activated, then with the isometric production beside the always needed main - PCF file (with the complete pipeline contents from the active 3D assembly), additionally still further individual PCF files are produced, which contain then only the information to the respective bent pipes. For the new integrated Smap3D Bending Simulation this option is not relevant and not necessary. There the necessary data exchange is fully automated, and no one must worry manually about suitable PCF files. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 69

New in Smap3D Isometric New option "Visible content only" To increase the speed when reading and analyzing a 3D assembly for isometric creation, the new option Visible content only has been added This can be found in the Isometric options, in the Advanced tab If this option is enabled, Isometric uses the visibility status of 3D models and assemblies when processing a 3D assembly (from step 1 to step 2) to analyze only the visible files in detail. Up to version 2017, all files contained in a 3D assembly were always fully analyzed. Compared to the previous version, this can significantly reduce processing analysis times when there are many hidden files in a 3D assembly. What s new in Smap3D Plant Design 2019 Page 70
