Pm=2 VDV lg Vdview Basic Overview This document provides an overview of the basic operations of the VisionX image viewer. It contains the folowing: A. A description of the main control panel for image display (panels 3-7) B. The different presentation modes with which may be used (panels 8-12) 1

2 Basic operation: Slice Navigation Use only for image data sets containing multiple images Slice Selection 1. Click the right arrow to move forwards through the image data set. 2. Click the left arrow to move backwards through the scan. 3. Click inside the scroll to jump forwards or backwards 5 images. These operations may also be accomplished with keyboard keys. Animation (cine mode) The two buttons at each side of the Navigation label can be used to scroll automatically through the image sequence: the left button displays the previous slices, while the right displays the following slices of the scan. The buttons may be pressed more than once; if the button direction coincides with the scrolling direction, the animation becomes faster otherwise the scrolling direction is reversed. Basic operation: Image pan and zoom Pan and Zoom 1. Click the Zoom In button to magnify the image around the focus point. 2. Press the mouse button and drag the mouse to pan the image. 3. Click the Zoom Out button to demagnify the image. These operations may also be accomplished with keyboard keys. Zoom Focal Point Zoom operations are about the focal point which is shown on the image as an x. 1. Click the Select Focus button. The button will be surrounded by a red border, meaning that this will be the active tool in the image. 2. Click inside the image to set the new focus. 3. Click the Zoom In button to magnify around the new focal point. 2

3 Basic operation: Windowing 8-bit mode 16-bit mode Windowing 1. Standard windowing settings may be selected from the Presets menu 2. Custom window and level settings may be manually entered into the Window and Level values 3. Vdview has two two modes of operation 8-bit and 16-bit. When the 8-bit mode is selected the Apply button must be clicked after every manual window change. In the 16-bit mode the windowing is interactive and after clicking on change the window and level settings may be modified by dragging the mouse in the image window. Basic operation: Image Measures Select one of four measuring tools from the Measure menu. 1. The Line tool is set by clicking and dragging on the image. The length of the line is displayed at the top-left corner of the image. The line can be changed by dragging the control boxes or the line itself. 2. The Rectangle and Ellipse tools are initiated by clicking and dragging the mouse on the image. The width, height and area are displayed in the top-left corner of the image. In 16-bit mode, some statistical values of the measured area are displayed. The rectangle or the ellipse can be changed by dragging the control boxes or it can be moved by clicking, and the dragging, inside the figure itself. 3. The perpendicular tool can be used to measure two orthogonal lines. The main line is set like the Line tool by clicking and dragging the mouse. On the main line, two handles are present, one at each side of the line, that can be clicked and dragged to change the extent of the perpendicular on the same side as the handle. The length, width, their respective components, and the area of the circumscribing rectangle are displayed in the top-left corner of the image. 3

5 Vdview single panel mode pm=0 The image viewer consists of two sections. The image appears on the left and the control panel appears vertically on the right. The control panel consists of the image navigation panel, the windowing panel, the measures and grid panel and the boundary editing panel.. When the image viewer starts it will automatically show the initial slice of the first annotation, if any, associated with the image data set. When working in single panel mode, the viewer will show the annotation/case-browser panel as a separate window that opens at the right hand of the image window. Vdview double panel mode pm=1 The double panel mode lets the user visualize two diffent views of the same scan or the concurrent visualization of two different scans (or images). The control panel is horizontal and the annotation and file browser panels appear as (mutually exclusive) pop-up windows on the opposite side of the relevant image panel. panel.. 6 Vdview compact single panel mode pm=2 In the compact mode, the annotation/casebrowser panel is embedded in the same window as the image panel. In this case the control panel develops horizontally below the image panel with the same blocks as is the single panel mode: the image navigation panel, the windowing panel, the measures and grid panel and the boundary editing panel. large image modes When the monitor screen size is large enough (y resolution over 1000) two additional modes may be used The four panel mode permits up to x512 image panels to be viewed simultaneously The large panel mode is similar to the single panel mode except that the image panel is 1024 x 1024 rather than 512 x
