1 How to use the New St. Mary s County s Zoning Map Viewer You must turn off any pop-up blocking in your web- browser for the tools to work effectively in this mapping application. The New Zoning Map Viewer has gone through many changes in the feel and look and tools now available. The Zoning Map Viewer is an interactive map that will show you the different Zoning locations within St Mary s County. The Internet Browser Window is identical to any other application and works in the same way. The Map Face itself there are a mapping tool bar, a tool description, a map face, and legend bar. These 4 different parts work together to deliver you your information. Parts of the Map Face Internet Browser Window Mapping Toolbar Tool Description Map Face Legend Bar

2 Internet Browser Window The St Mary s County Zoning Map Viewer runs on a standard Internet Bowser Window. The buttons along the top of the window have the same functionality as in any other internet application. Map Face The Map Face is the map image itself. This is the work area where the interaction will be performed. Here is where you will point and click on the Geographic location to obtain information about a location in the County. In the upper right corner of the Map Face is the Overview Map window. This window remains at the same scale but gives you a red box that shows where you are located on a County Map. Mapping Toolbar The Mapping Toolbar contains all of the tools available to interact with the Map Face. In the lower left hand corner of the Browser window is the description of what Toolbar option is active. Below is a description of the functionality of each of the available Toolbar buttons.

3 Tool Bar Options Legend/Layer List Button This button toggles the Legend/Layers List on the right side of the mapping interface window. Overview Map Button This button toggles the Overview Map on and off. Zoom In Button This button Zooms In on the chosen position. Or the box dragged on the Map Face. Zoom Out Button This button Zooms Out on the position clicked on or the box dragged on the Map Face. Zoom to Full Extent This button Zooms to the full extent of the Map Face. Previous Extent This button Zooms to the last previous extent. Pan This button Pans the Map as the user drags the pointer across the Map Face. Identify This button displays a list of attributes for a selected feature. Measure This button maeasures distances on the Map. Set Units Sets the units for the Measure tool. Locate Address This button allows you to enter an address and the application will locate and zoom you to the address location. Print This button Prints the map to the user s default printer. New Address Locating Tool An Address Locating Tool been made available in the new Zoning Map Viewer. This tool allows you the enter an address and the application will zoom to the address automatically. When you choose this tool a new external dialog box appears. You can choose either to locate by addresses or by Road intersections.

4 Once an address is entered click the Locate button and this dialog box appears to confirm the address. Choose the correct address by clicking the zoom to address to automatically zoom to the entered address. New MD State Assessment Web-link New in the Zoning Map Viewer is the data viewer window is now an external window. That is why your browser needs to have the pop-up blocker turned off. Here after you zoom in and click on a property the following dialog box will open giving you several fields of information of the Property you selected. Click on the MD DAT Property Information Button and the application will take you directly to the MD State Property web page as show in the example below.

5 Here you can find the most up-to-date Property information. This site is hosted by the MD State Department of Assessments and Taxation. Printing a Map Click on the Print Icon. In the Data View Window the following message will appear. In the text box you can title your Map and click Create Print Page A window like the one to the right will appear. Here use the Browser print function to print your Map to your printer.
