11 Quality Assurance Package NOTE: Require Part Complete, Fastener Detection, and Fastener Length Verification will only be enabled if the Quality Assurance package is purchased. NOTE: To use Fastener Length Verification and Fastener Detection, TPS must be set for each Tool/MAS station. Quality Assurance Package The Quality Assurance (QA) package helps assure the successful installation of fasteners in fabricated and stamped parts. It is used only with Haeger top feeding shuttle style tooling for studs, standoffs, and nuts. The components of the Quality Assurance package can be turned on or off through the Program Setup screen (Refer to page 4.33) and the Options screen (Refer to page 4.18). The components are configured for each Tool/MAS station by setting the Tooling Protection System (TPS). This is accessed via the Set TPS button on the Operations screen (Refer to page 4.32). Quality Assurance Package Authorization 1. Contact Haeger at to authorize the Quality Assurance Package. Figure 5.6: Fastener Length Error screen Figure 5.7: Fastener Detection Error screen NOTE: You can temporarily disable Fastener Detection by touching the Vacuum OFF button on the Operations screen. Fastener Length Verification Fastener Length Verification uses the TPS set up procedure to determine the length of studs and standoffs by looking at when tooling contact is made. InsertionLogic stores these values per Tool/MAS station and per program. You can turn on verification on Page 2 of the Program Setup screen (Refer to page 4.33). If the fastener is too long or too short, based on the sensitivity setting in the Options screen, the ram will retract and a red error screen will appear during insertion. Press the Reset button to clear the error. Remove the fastener and eject another fastener. (See Figure 5.19) Fastener Detection Fastener Detection uses the TPS set up procedure to determine the position of the ram and the vacuum level when the fastener is picked up. InsertionLogic stores these values per Tool/MAS station and per program and they are used to detect if no fastener is present. If no fastener is detected during insertion, the ram will retract and a red error screen will appear. Press the Reset button to clear the error. Eject another fastener. (See Figure 5.20) Require Part Complete (Refer to page 4.19) 5.11

16 Robot Automation Option Figure 5.8: Robot Program # visible on Program Setup page 2 Introduction The Window Touch has 10 inputs from the robot to control primary functions. X100 - X103 are used to change tooling stations in the software to allow the operator to have 4 different settings for force, dwell, ect. X105 is used to initate a Press Command X106 is used to bring the Ram up. X10C Robot Cube is used to lock the Window Touch so that the ram will not be able to press unless the Robot is in position. X10E is used to lock the MAS so that it will not fire a fastener during part change. There are also 13 outputs from the Window Touch to the Robot. Y100 is turned on when the machine has completed a cycle. Y101 will turn on when all the tooling is in place and the machine is ready to press. The robot will not be allowed to enter the work area until this output is on. Y102 - Y109 are binary codes used to determine what program s being run on the Haeger. There are 256 possible program numbers to be used. Y10A is the alarm bit and will turn on when any alarm condition is met. This can be used to pause the robot or have the robot exit the machine work area. To set the program number, navigate to Page 2 of the Program Setup screen (See Figure 5.21). Type in the program number you wish to use. If the number has already been used by another program it will not accept it. 5.16

17 Warning and Safety Instructions Robot Automation Option The Haeger Patented safety system is fully operational in the manual ( Robot-Off ) Mode. Integrating the Haeger machine into a robot system and enabling the robot mode disables the it s safety features. Caution must be taken when programming the robot for use. Use of the robot control may cause the Haeger to make a press while programming. Always follow your facilities safety practices. Additional safety features may be required, such as devices the disable the machine during programming and maintenance activities. This integration may require additional safe guards to be implemented bu your company. It is your / your company s responsibility to comply with the safety regulations in your state / country. Haeger takes no responsibility for improper integration of your robot system. When connecting the robot to the WindowTouch, you should isolate the signals with relays. 24vdc positive voltage to terminal C1 is provided for this purpose. NEVER: Attempt to run any irregular shaped sheet metal part that could contact the Upper and Lower Tools before these tools insert the fastener into the part. This applies to both the Conductive and Non-Conductive Modes of operation. Inputs are PNP and are wired to a relay contact which the robot controls. 24 vdc is connected to the relay contact and then when the robot activates the relay, the 24vdc signal is sent to the WindowTouch distribution board X - input. Outputs are NPN and controlled in the same way - except that the WindowTouch controls the relay. 24vdc is sent to the relay coil then back to the appropriate output on the distribution board. When the PLC turns on the corresponding output it will then activate the relay. On the robot side, when the relay is activated the contact will close and the robot will see the circuit completed and the input will turn on. 5.17
