2 4 Steps to Getting Started 1.Get Proper Equipment for Podcasting I recommend using a macbook due to the ease of use. You can get financial help through the CLIP program on campus. Employees are eligible to apply for the CLIP loan every three years (from the date of the original loan). Please contact April Lipnitzky at if you are unsure of your eligibility status. 2.Watch Video Podcasts rockvalleycollege.edu

5 Getting Around Your Mac [ctrl] + [mouse click] - Mouse (right-click) to perform the right click in the Mac environment use: [Apple key] + [tab] - toggle between open Mac applications [Apple key] + [S] - Save option for most all Mac applications [Apple key] + [T] - Open new windows in Safari [Shift] + [Apple key] + [N] - Add new slide in Keynote [Apple key] + [D] - Duplicate slide in Keynote (click on slide you want to dup) 5

6 Planning Your Podcast Sessions Audio or Video? I suggest creating video for all your podcasts due to the ADA requirements Video Podcasting Keynote 08 - (see Keynote_08_AddVoiceOver podcast) Make sure and export as Quicktime video. VideoCue - (Podcast training coming soon) Great for weekly announcements. 6

7 Where to Podcast - In class or in your office? In Office Creating podcast to supplement what you are covering in class? Tip: Add three questions at end of podcast for students to reply to for 10 points. In Class Creating live podcasts for students to listen to in order to reinforce course topics covered in class This type of podcast could free up your class time for more labs and discussion. Students are not worried about writing down every word. 7

8 Where to Podcast - In class or in your office? Which do I choose? Besides the weekly announcements I have chosen to record lectures in class because it takes less time. If I was to record in my office supplement podcasts it would add many more hours to my already tight schedule teaching 6 courses. At the end of each class I spend around 5-10 minutes exporting my podcast in Keynote and upload to itunes U. This is your choice, experiment and then stick to your decision. 8

9 Equipment for Podcasting Microphone? Office recording? The built in microphone for the mac will suffice for office recording. Classroom recording? I suggest using the BlueMic Snowball. - plug into usb port - click on System Preferences > Sound > Input - Select Blue SnowBall - Turn up input Volume all the way to right - Change switch on back on Snowball to 3 for omnidirectional 9

11 Uploading to itunes U You are finished recording and exporting your podcast and ready to upload. Go to : Login: E# Password: Network\Outlook password Find your course and tab in itunes > > > Allow upload > Change Title/Artist Once complete Click 11
